Oooo, scratchcards for the postman - never thought of that! Last year we gave him £20 and it was the best 20 quid we've ever spent. We've had a few bits of post this year which have not had the right amount of postage on them and he's delivered them anyway...saves us having to go and pick them up from the office!

It is definitely worth looking after the postman at Christmas. Ours is fab and will hide parcels if we are not in. We live in a rural area and it is a 14 mile round trip to collect a parcel if he doesn't leave it for us.

teaonesugar my friend is JW and I don't give her a Christmas present, she asked me not to - and I respect that. I usually give her a present in Jan/Feb for being a fab pal.

We have had a lot of awkward conversations with friends over the last few years about gift giving. It had become a bit silly. Most people were really relieved to stop giving. My SIL was the only one who wanted to continue and, as she has a very small family on her side and no kids, I could see her point. She would have received nothing on Christmas day! I don't give my brother or his wife though, just my nieces, and he does the same for us. He was very relieved to stop. We just make a point of spending time together instead.
