Sweet or dry?

How old are you?

I'm a Harveys Bristol Cream girl, age 42 grin

I don't think there are that many of us about.

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster Sat 27-Nov-10 20:19:25

Yup, I have a bottle of Harveys in the kitchen and a bottle of port. It's cheaper then wine and lasts longer. grin I'm 33.

ENormaSnob Sat 27-Nov-10 20:20:06

Yes blush

I like both and I also like advocaat blush

I'm 29 next week!

Alouiseg Sat 27-Nov-10 20:20:31

Oh yes! Not so much Bristol Cream, I'm more of a Manzanilla girl.

DioneTheDiabolist Sat 27-Nov-10 20:21:38

Dry. A nice really cold Tio Pepe makes my christmas tree go up with a flourish grin. I am 37years and 9months.

Portofino Sat 27-Nov-10 20:32:12

Oh yes - an ice cold manzanilla is lovely!

posey Sat 27-Nov-10 20:33:51

Great to see some younger ones keeping the sherry tradition alive and wellgrin
I'm sure it was my grandma who introduced me to the stuff.

Now advocaat...haven't had any in ages, might add it to Christmas shopping list

expatinscotland Sat 27-Nov-10 20:34:07

I tried it a couple of times in the past and found it vile.

Portofino Sat 27-Nov-10 20:34:38

I'm 42 by the way. When I got married the first time, my ex MIL insisted on buying a case of dry/ case of sweet for the reception. No-one drank it. Well apart from me - I used to come from work and have a sherry - it lasted months, then I had developed a taste for it.

JetLi Sat 27-Nov-10 20:34:53

Same as Portofino - ice cold, v.dry.

BTW rumour has it there is some 10 year old Bristol Cream knocking around?

Pedro Ximanez comes highly recommended but haven't tried it myself.

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster Sat 27-Nov-10 20:35:12

What's advocaat?

saltyseadog Sat 27-Nov-10 20:35:36

Yes - I love HBC.

I'm also partial to a lot of little port.

PamelaFlitton Sat 27-Nov-10 20:36:46

Yes I fucking love it. And port as well. Legacy of times at Oxford. Sweet and warm, thanks. Tastes comfortingly medicinal. I am young.

onimolap Sat 27-Nov-10 20:37:28

Love it - it's my mother's tipple so very comforting.

thisisyesterday Sat 27-Nov-10 20:38:15

i LOVE sherry!

croft original all the way

am 30 (but only just). I blame my Nana for giving me a taste for it in my youth lol

thisisyesterday Sat 27-Nov-10 20:38:33

in fact i;m tempted to go and get one right now

onimolap Sat 27-Nov-10 20:41:15

I love port too (something I picked up in the Mess along with DH?).

Also Madeira - sercial (for sherry) and malmsey (for port).

posey Sat 27-Nov-10 20:42:24

advocaat is a bright yellow gloopy drink made of egg yolks, brandy, sugar and vanilla (I think). It can be drunk neat or with lemonade to make a snowball.

Now Port I haven't been able to face for many many years after the mother of all hangovers...first time I'd met my best friend's boyfriend(now husband)and he served port after his great dinner...I remember very little of the next few days{grin]

glitterkitty Sat 27-Nov-10 20:43:48

What is the best port then? Or sherry even? Am reading this and feeling fortified wine-curious...

Why is it always in massive bottles And it goes off too dosent it? What if I get the wrong one?

posey Sat 27-Nov-10 20:44:00

thisisyesterday - see, another grandmother leading us astray!
But I hate Croft Original smile

MayDayChild Sat 27-Nov-10 20:44:17

BelleDeChocChipCookieMonster Sat 27-Nov-10 20:48:16
