Juneathon 2016 - anyone want to join us?

Basic premis: try to do 30 min exercise every day in June.

Any kind of exercise: walking, running, swimming, climbing, dancing, circuits - the choice is yours!

From experience, every day can be a bit much. So feel free to join in even if you don't think you can manage this. Last year I aimed for 5 days per week, which worked well for me.

If you want to start before June, there is a thread here

I'm in! (Or will be when my back sorts itself.) Thanks for getting us started Oubliette.

Ooh yes please this sounds just what I need - I walk quite a lot - averaging 13-15k steps a day (although my Fitbit has just died so I need to sort that out to make sure I keep it up) but other than that I am totally sedentary and horribly lazy. I used to love exercise but since having my dd 3 years ago I just haven't got back into it - I tried running but my flat feet/weak ankle combo started hurting once I got to 20 mins solid running, and I have joined a gym but went a couple of times (back in Feb!) and just didn't have a plan so that fizzled out too! I need some motivation and a kick up the arse then! I think I'll spend the time until June getting some ideas of classes I'd like to try and working out a timetable for myself. I just want to feel fit and healthy again!

I'd like to do this. I'll be hooping in my (very small) living room...

Hello Kanye - I hope your back is starting to feel better.

Welcome scissormister and Whyhellodaffodil - good to have you both onboard.

Bumping to see if anyone else is interested. Only 6 more days in May, and then we'll be underway!

I'd like to give it a go please, I'll try for average 30 mins minimum a day, so may do more on some days and less on others. I need to keep it up and a kick up the backside is always useful ! I do a bit of jogging, swimming, walking and have recently started going to a spinning class at the gym ... 4 times so far ! I have put my name down for Pilates tomorrow, a new one for me. I also like cake and wine and sitting on my backside !

I'm in! I'll be running, walking and Pilates-ing. Anything else is a bonus.

I've been averaging 20k steps a day, running 3-4 times a week, Pilates half hour about twice a week for the past five weeks and have lost half a stone. I'm hoping for the same in June. A thread will be nice: I'm on a weight-loss thread but fear my reports of exercise are coming across a bit smug Sad

I'll join! I reckon a lot of mine will be walking but I also like jogging, DVDs and swimming too so I'll mix it up a bit , keep it interesting (I hope)

I'm in....I walk 2 miles and cycle 2 miles a day but it's just not enough. I need something more aerobic....but with a shitty 43 year old ankle and ex smoker's lungs I do struggle.

Can't bear yoga...tried...almost passed out with boredom.

Report
Hrafnkel · 28/05/2016 13:20

Violet, try Pilates? It's like yoga but better. More dynamic.

I'm in! Been aiming for 5 days a week this week and so far so good. Will be shredding or doing pilates.

I've just proved to myself how much I need junathon...I dragged myself round 3km and felt like lead for every step. I was doing a reasonably comfortable 8km a couple of times a week this time last year Sad. I guess things can only get better.

Oh yes I'm in, I've entered a 10km end of sept so need to get my cardio going. Quite looking forward to it, 30 mins for 30 days.

I'm in. I really need to walk the dogs everyday but it's been more like every other day, I have been off work with depression so am trying not to give myself to hard a time. I want to do yoga, skipping and one of my exercise videos.

Hello everyone

Not long to go now. I'm a bit stunned that we're already at the end of May. 2016 is going very quickly...

I'm in! I've got just over a stone to lose to get to my ideal weight - and a holiday booked in August so am aiming to lose it by then.

I enjoy running but suffer with my back so will be aiming for lots of walking and yoga/ Pilates video workouts.

Hopefully posting here wil encourage me to keep going - I always start these things then give up far too easily!

Yes, I'm in too. I have been posting on another 30 mins thread but prefer it when there are lots of us to give each other support and encouragement. My aim is at least 5 times a week.

I'm in. I'll aim for 28 days out of 30, just to give myself a bit of margin for error as I'll be away for a long weekend. I'm in a good routine, but it's so hot here now (Hong Kong- 33 degrees with 80% humidity) and that just makes it harder as cuts out all "incidental" exercise. In winter I walk to work and back and can hit 8-10,000 steps just in the course of my day, but in summer unless you want to spend the day soaked in sweat, that can't happen.

I'd love to join. I think it'll be a mixture of classes at the gym and running for me. I've got a pretty good routine, like some others but it suffers in the school holidays. (usually use the crèche for my 2yo and go while my other 2 DC are at school) Good luck!

I'm in Holland till Friday - started with a ten-mile run! While running, I decided to do a marathon here: that means a 10k tomorrow and another ten-miler on Thursday. Will be lovely.

Oh that sounds great Hraf! I started off today with an hour of badminton, not sure what I'm going to fit in tomorrow. I'll either have to get up early and go for a run, or sit the kids in front of iPads and do a dvd. I always feel a bit guilty doing that though; it feels a bit wrong that I'm encouraging them to be sedentary while I'm being active. Oh well. Time spent on MN while they are climbing stuff at the park probably balances it out.

I started a day early with 20 minutes on the cross trainer and day 1 of yoga with Adrienne. I'd forgotten what it's like to enjoy moving and exercising - hopefully this thread will be a good motivator for me Smile

I'm up for it. I already jog slowly and go to spin and yoga but then I will have days where I just sit at the desk and then don't bother.

Half an hour is a good bite size.

patientzero · 31/05/2016 19:45

Ooh IAmCrazy I'm doing Yoga with Adriene too! Started last night and did Day 2 this morning Grin
