Had a look but couldn't see another thread.

Anyone else watched any? Just seen the first episode and can't make my mind up. I'm ambivalent towards the monarchy but the production seems sumptuous. It's nice seeing all the 40's/50's fashions though.

Production values are obviously high. Not sure I'm buying Matt Smith as Philip yet though.

Saw the first episode today. It's gorgeous to watch. Love Clare Foy and her voice seems spot on. Matt Smith's Philip is far more child orientated and amenable than I expected...so far anyway.

And Ben Miles is lovely too. So all good so far!

I think it's excellent - just watched first two episodes and it held my interest, plus I'm still awake, which is the gauge of quality nowadays.

It's nicely subtle and doesn't seem to be trying too hard for mass commercial appeal - as a result it'll be huge. Claire Foy and Matt Smith are totally believable in their roles, (but I rate them both anyway).

All in all very good so far. Yep - I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's installment.

I'm on episode 4. Enjoying, I'm obsessed with Matt Smith anyway though. I thought 4 was a dip (the fog episode)

I have found myself thinking "couldn't they have got someone British to play Churchill" though. That might sound a bit pompous but I'd have felt the same if they'd had an American play any other main role.

Anyhoo. Matt Smith + Period Drama + Royals = Songbird Sweetspot.

I'm not a monarchist but I do find them fascinating, like an endangered species.

I'm on episode 3. It's extremely well made and acted and I am enjoying it but if I had any criticism it'd be that it's slightly in danger of being drowned by the need for historical accuracy, which is a shame. I realise, when the subject matter is very well known, that it's important to get things as accurate as possible but it's slightly too aware on occasion.

But it's still very good and it has Matt Smith.

Actually having said all that, I did end up googling around Philip's life before his marriage to the Queen and it's fascinating. Not at all what I expected.

I've watched the first 3 eps and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm not a fan of royalty (although I do admire the queen) but it's fascinating to see the behind the scenes stuff.

I thought the George vi scenes were particularly well done and very moving as his illness progressed.

RE Prince Philip his childhood WAS fascinating - which was what was so infuriating about his Fiona Bruce interview. He suffers no fools and instead of saying things like

"Tell us something about your childhood"

or

"What was it like when you were a boy"

She kept putting words in like

When you were a boy did you think X ?

When you were a boy did you feel Y?

And she just got

NO in a variety of hostile ways. Some said he was rude, I think he treated the questions deservedly, they were CLEARLY trying to put words in his mouth for some end goal soundbites

I have two girls aged five and nine and am wondering if it's suitable as a family watch?
I have fond memories of watching Upstairs Downstairs, Lily Langtry and Edward and Mrs Simpson with my mum as a child and was curious if I could do this with the Crown and my girls.

The Christmas scene with the carol singers was very moving.

I was surprised at how Philip has been portrayed so far (have only seen an episode and half though). He seems very affectionate with his kids whereas the narrative always seems to have been that Charles problems stem partly from his parents being quite reserved (although Charles does come across as a bit of wet blanket).

Also, does anyone know how much, if any, input they've had from Royal insiders? And is that really Buckingham Palace they've filmed at?
