A mother is still breastfeeding her 8 yr old daughter!

Will try and watch it tho I think it might make me feel ill.

There is also a woman who tandem feeds her 4 yr old twins!

I just read that womans story in NOW magazine and was pretty amazed at some of the things she said. I'm all for breastfeeding but 8 and 9 year olds are frankly too old for it IMO.
Can't wait for the program!

I agree. I BF both mine but once they got teeth I had to stop!

Psycologically it cannot be good for the children IMO.

if it makes you feel ill I suggest you don't watch it
it's not a freak show

You feel that breastfeeding a child who has teeth is psychologically bad for the child?

Report
harpsichordenvy · 28/01/2006 14:01

yes that damaging teeth/nipple clash
they never recover really

Oh I don't know, ds's teeth seem fine...

I just read in the paper that one of them wants to get breastfeeding onto page 3 - isn't the point to STOP fetishising the breast as an exclusively sexual object?

Dd's teeth are very sharp as she is an extreme night grinder as the dentist tells me. Never felt them whilst bf though.

it is a bloody freak show - breatfeeding an 8 year old is abusinve and sick

Mud · 28/01/2006 15:09

and a 4 yar old not much better

Report
hercules · 28/01/2006 15:10

I am not going to watch it as it sounds like it is going to be sensationalist and do extended bf no good.

Oh really mud. I must be a freak then. It's a shame as the other thread on mumsnet was civilised.

hercules · 28/01/2006 15:11

feel like I should point out the worldwide age for weaning is over 4 but ho hum.

civilisaed thread on extended breastfeeign - I don't believe you

It was last time I looked. Why dont you go tarnish it?

Report
hercules · 28/01/2006 15:15

I saw the clip advertising it last night of a ten year old bf. I agree with what a poster said on the other thread that it would be good if they did a programme on 6 mnths - 1 year bf as even that age hasnt been accepted in this country yet.

yes
no one has accused of of sexual abuse yet
that;s always a nice touch

Report
hercules · 28/01/2006 15:15

I thought that too.

Report
hercules · 28/01/2006 15:16

there's still time though.....

or what about the child being clingy...

Report
Mud · 28/01/2006 15:16

people are entiltid to have a different opinion and thought process to you you know. i don't get why ther are some subjects here that are so taboo here that only those who agree wholeheartedly are alowed to post. I am a firm believer in breastfeeding and have breadstfed 3 children to around the year mark. I am allowed to think there is a limit to it and express that view and psychjologically yes I think it is abusive at 8 to be breastfeeding

Report
Mud · 28/01/2006 15:17

oh i forgot breastfeeding is blody sacrsosant isn't it

yes
it will MAKE a child clingy
breastmilk is nutritionally worthless after a year
god we could just do it ourselves, save them all the trouble

Report
hercules · 28/01/2006 15:17

err you also said 4. Trouble is that means there must be a hell of a lot abused kids in the world according to that!

Report
harpsichordenvy · 28/01/2006 15:17

no mud
apparently it is abusive and sick
