Looking for like-minded mums to be who are taking things as they come and fancy a friendly chat along the way.

I'm 36 and just started ttc my second. My ds is 28 mo and I still bf him once a day, most days. I understand this may affect my fertility but, although a three-ish year age gap would be nice, I'm a long way from worrying about it at this early stage. It took me a year of trying (and a mc) before ds came along so I already know what it's like to wait for good things!

Technically I'm not charting or anything (wouldn't know how) just counting roughly 10 days into my cycle and dtd as much as reasonable (!) around that time.

It might not be the most dynamic way of ttc but it suits me for now Smile

Hi
We've just started to ttc for dc2. Not charting either and using ovulation calculator for rough estimate of ovulation. Worked with ds, conceived in first month. Ds is 19 months.

Thought we might have been lucky this month as AF 5 days late (normally bang on time) but had a bfn today. Didn't really think it would be a bfp anyway.

I'm 34 Smile

Hi Zumba thanks for joining me!

Sorry about the bfn today. Better luck next time around. AF is due for me in a few days time and I have no idea which way it's going to go! I've been extremely tired but then ds hasn't been sleeping too well so could be that. Also been overly emotional but could be the tiredness I guess. It's been a while since I last fell pregnant and I've kind of forgotten what to expect!

Which calculator are you using?

I was t really expecting it to be anything else tbh!

Last time I used one on baby centre for a rough idea of dates. Not an exact science but as you are, being quite relaxed about this one

Hello ladies, can I join you?

We're ttc#2, DS is 2.5 now, couldn't countenance a shorter age gap, too much hard work and DS is a delight, I want to enjoy him as much as possible while he's young Smile

I'd been dragging my heels about ttc again also as I was quite sick in last pregnancy and couldn't bear being like that with a tiny toddler but last month we spontaneously gave it a go Wink. No luck first time so am now on month 2 ttc.

I was trying to be relaxed about it but bought some ovulation sticks to try and get a hold on my cycle but they've been a bit unreliable which has added some unwanted stress to the process! So if it's a bfn this month I'll try and be a bit more chilled next month.

Looking forward to chatting with you!

Absolutely Decca the more the merrier!

Completely agree with your first paragraph too. I felt guilty even thinking about a second until a couple of months ago. Now the time feels right Smile

Fingers crossed for a bfp this month but if not you can chill with the rest of us here Wink

I'll look into that calculator Zumba as interested to see what it says. The 10 days thing we tried was recommended by our gp last time around (about ten months into the process - gawd knows what we were doing prior to that - really random dtd I guess!!) and it seemed to work.

Hi Decca

I was quite nauseous with DS too, and can't imagine being like that and having him to run around after but will just have to cope!

Heya everyone can I join? Smile

I have just joined and have been searching for a thread like this one.
I have been with my fiancé for 10 years and about a week ago he agreed to start trying for a baby.

This will be my first and it's all a bit of a minefield at the moment. I'm excited, I'm nervous and all the emotions inbetween.
We are taking a very relaxed approach not charting, no temperature checks etc just having sex and seeing what happens. I would very much like somebody I can talk to about it all who understands as we are not telling anyone yet

Hi Pandora, lovely to have you on board Smile Good luck for your first attempt.

It is such an exciting time! And very nerve racking first time around, I remember. But mostly exciting Wink Great that you found MN already. I only found it once ds was born - I started googling like mad and most of my questions led me here!

Well I had an unexpected visit from AF today - a day earlier than expected (I'm usually 28 days). So that answers my question for this month. Didn't get the usual warning signs like cramping so was a real surprise.

Hi everyone! Mind if I join?

My husband and I have just started ttc our first baby. We've been married for a year next Friday and together for 6. We're both very excited but are determined to be relaxed about it all and not get hung up on temping etc. I'm nervous but very excited!

Dubai thank you very much for the welcome Smile I have been stalking mumsnet for a while. I have been trying to get my fiancé on board with ttc for ages and always thought once he agrees I will find people on there to talk to so I don't get overwhelmed (or drive him crazy). Sorry for suprise Af what a cow! I'm sure I'm going to have lots of that happen people's cycles seem to go wacky once they begin trying to conceive.

Welcome Tamara we seem to have a similar story it's great to find someone also just starting to try to conceive their first we can go through this journey together Smile

Hi ladies,

Wondering if I can join you too? I've been off the pill since October but we've only just agreed to start ttc. Unfortunately my cycle is a bit all over the place but I'm trying not to get caught up in temping and opk's.

Hi Tamara and JustMe, welcome to the thread! So glad there are lots of others doing it this way.

Tbh Pandora AF did me a tiny favour this time as it's my friend's wedding next weekend so means I can allow myself an extra beverage or two Wink

I wonder why cycles change when ttc? Hadn't thought of it before but maybe our bodies are aware of the sperm even if there is no conception, and it affects our hormones somehow?

A few more drinks at the wedding sounds like a good idea Smile Are you all cutting down on things like alcohol / caffeine a lot to try and get pregnant?

Mine I think is because I was on Logynon where the hormones are different throughout the month. I think its completely messed my body up

Tamara160 · 02/08/2015 10:42

Thanks for the welcome! (smile)

I stopped drinking coffee a few months ago and only have the odd glass of wine now.

I agree Darkpandora, it's great to find someone at the same stage in our very exciting journey!

I think it's amazing how much the pill etc hides. I felt awful when I came off microgynon, poor hubby walked on eggshells for a month!

Make sure you enjoy those drinks Lostindubai!

Welcome JustMe nice to have you along for the journey Smile

dubai enjoy those extra drinks Grin lol I love a wedding got none I will be going to anytime soon everyone I know is already married or single lol

I don't really drink or go out so I don't need to cut down on alcohol but for me but I'm wondering about food do I need to stop eating eggs? Or is that just when pregnant? Caffeine is gonna be hard as well because I drink tons of coke and other fizzy drinks and eat loads of chocolate lol

I'm also curious as to why cycles seem to change think you might be onto something there about the hormones maybe I'll have a Google and see what comes up. Hmm

Waves to tamara Smile

So what is everybody up to today?

Thank you Smile

I don't know anyone getting married either. My friend just got engaged but said the wedding won't be for ages yet.

Coffee will be my struggle I think dark. Don't drink loads but enjoy a cheeky glass of wine at the weekend Wink

My cycle has been all over the place. First month was 70+ days. I thought it had settled to 34 days as it has been the last 3 months but currently on day 37 and no sign! Angry Never been so desperate to see AF so we can get on!!

Think the next wedding I go to will probably be my own in a few years.

JustMe My cycle was crazy when I got off the pill 3 years ago it took ages to settle, but it did sort of settle my cycle is now either 31 days or 34 days had a few come earlier or a bit later but generally it's one of the two. Will probably be the only time I say this but I hope Af arrives soon for you so you can get on and try Smile

Justme, I hope AF turns up for you soon. Have you tried Agnus cactus or started taking the seven seas trying for a baby vitamins? I've heard good things about both and take seven seas myself. Might be worth a shot.

Coming off the coffee was a struggle for me! I thought if I do it before I get pregnant, then maybe I won't have as many mood swings haha! I feel loads better for it now to be honest, as I used to mainline it! Shock

Today I have been stripping wallpaper in the living room - very satisfying! Later, DH and I are going to see Alan Carr Grin

Hello, may I join in? I've been lurking in TTC for a while but the other threads are so busy, I can't keep up, plus I'm not doing all the temping stuff (yet...).

My background: I'm 34 with one daughter who is 16.5 months; although planned, she was conceived very haphazardly after being on pill for a decade (didn't even know I was pregnant until 15 weeks!).
Have been TTC again since February for No2, got pregnant in April but had a miscarriage in early June. Got back at it immediately on Drs advice as scan showed ovulation but no joy that month, and am now in this month's two week wait. Not sure how that works out re: number of cycles!

I have a very demanding job so apologies in advance for not being able to post very frequently, but would really appreciate somewhere to chat with others taking a non-technical approach, as none of my friends are TTC again yet. Hopefully I can share in your BFPs too Smile

Welcome In! Sorry about your MC.

Thanks ladies, I've started on the seven seas but not AC. I did try soy isoflavones as I read that they shortened a cycle but it only made a diff by a day but made me feel awful!

Haha the coffee move sounds wise Tamara! DH will have to deal with cold turkey + hormones Confused Have you seek Alan Carr live before? He's very funny!

We went out for Sunday lunch and now the dog and I are resting on the sofa Wink

Hi InFrance and Elllimam lovely to see you on here!

InFrance I'm so sorry about your mc. I had one AF after mine then started trying again and voila, conceived first time. Apparently after a mc or a birth are the most fertile times, so fx for you.

Re caffeine: during my entire pregnancy I couldn't touch tea and I'm usually a big tea drinker. So I stuck to fruit infusions which are also lovely (and kept me warm during the winter!) They recommend no more than two cups a day during pregnancy and while breastfeeding so while I started drinking it again after ds' birth, I now only drink decaf tea. Even on two cups a day I got huge caffeine withdrawal headaches so thought it best just to give up.

Interestingly I also went off alcohol so it wasn't a struggle to stop drinking (although while ttc I didn't really change my habits - a glass of wine with dinner a couple of times a week so nothing major). I also went right off chicken and beef mince, and have never really liked them since. Pleased to say I do enjoy wine again though Grin

DP and I went shopping for curtains today. My exciting life hehe!
