GMTV are at it again-another survey about BFing

(226 Posts)
SofaKingFedUpOfSnow Fri 15-Jan-10 07:01:49

here

I completed it out of curiosity. Some of the questions are really loaded and negative about BFing.

I've pointed out to them that they're not exactly unbiased as one of their major sponsors is nestle.

MrsKitty Fri 15-Jan-10 07:48:28

I've just done it too - agree, very negative undertones and I feel some of the wording would encourage people who aren't sure / have no experience to believe that it's a 'bad' thing to do. e.g. "Do you think women should be allowed to breastfeed in public? Are you pregnant and planning to breastfeed or is it something that you think women shouldn't do?"

Wrote a big thing at the end about positive aspects of BF and expressed my concern at some of their word choices and that I felt they were encouraging negative attitudes towards BF.

shock at these questionsd
"Do you think breast milk is more nutritional for babies than formula? "
for example
ffs it's not an opinion thing

as for women being allowed to do it in public
right io feel a complaint coming on

AngryFromManchester Fri 15-Jan-10 07:56:41

even I have completed it and my children are past the breastfeeding stage blush but fgs @ do you think a womans breast should ever be on display in public?! Er they were designed to feed BABIES with, not hang clothes off

wonder if they had NUTS in mind when they wrote vthat

i had a rant in the comment bit and will complain properly later.]
Just about to start a peer support course - if those questions do reflect the majority view (not sure they do) then i might as well not bother

AngryFromManchester Fri 15-Jan-10 08:00:26

Why don't they do a survey on the Daily Star? Do they think intelligent women and men need to be subjected to such vulgarity in public? eh?

MrsKitty Fri 15-Jan-10 08:02:39

stealth I'd forgotten about the nutritional question shock - Who comes up with this stuff?!

It was the idea that I need to be "allowed" and asking if it's something "women shouldn't do" that pissed me off the most though angry.

JodieO Fri 15-Jan-10 08:03:19

Done, stupid questions though.

StewieGriffinsMom Fri 15-Jan-10 08:03:36

I just filled it in. Its a pile of shite and poorly worded. My complaint on the comments box is quite long.

ShowOfHands Fri 15-Jan-10 08:05:01

I commented too. What's the point? We already know that bfing rates are woefully low, that Joe Public has uneducated and wilfully ignorant opinions on bfing. Why don't they invest some time promoting and normalising bfing instead of carrying out pathetic and pointless surveys?

Oh I know. The answer's threefold:

Nestle sponsor them.

The GMTV brand is on its knees fellating one Hilary Jones.

Their viewing audience is slowly slipping down the food chain and couldn't be educated if you hit them with a spork.

Fuckers.

AngryFromManchester Fri 15-Jan-10 08:07:08

oh yes the man who had an affair when his wife was pregnant

hey showofhands, don't hold back, say what you really feel

can you imagine if this was the other way round?
do you believe formula is nutritionally adequate?
Should women be allowed to bottle feed in public?

AngryFromManchester Fri 15-Jan-10 08:10:26

should men be able to use stand up toilets so publicly?

should they be able to stand up to piss or forced to sit?

Is there any need for a man to appear in public at all?

WoTmania Fri 15-Jan-10 08:10:41

I completed it but left no comment.
Maybe I should do it again grin and leave a comment.

i actually think if they did that theyd be fined (quitre rightly)
sorry for typing, feeding wshilw mning, sorry oif that puts you off your toasr

QandA Fri 15-Jan-10 08:16:17

I have just completed the survey, Complete and utter bollocks. Have also ranted completed the comments box with my misgivings about the tone of the survey and obvious bias.

This thread should be kept bumped all day and perhaps informed MNers can influence the 'outcome' of the survey and balance the ignorant gmtv viewers who believe that a woman shouldn't breastfeed in public.

ShowOfHands Fri 15-Jan-10 08:17:55

I'd like to write surveys for GMTV. I'm surprised the calibre of person that chooses to listen to Fiona Philips et al spew forth their vacuous bile all over the nation's cornflakes has the intellectual wherewithal to understand the word 'nutritionally'.

I may be in a very, very bad mood today.

BouncingTurtle Fri 15-Jan-10 08:19:37

'Breastfeeding survey
Do you think it's right for women to be able to breastfeed in public or do you think it should be confined to the privacy of the home? @

angry angry angry

This whole question has been phrased so fucking wrong!

I've completed the survey and put in my comments.

you can take the survey more than once...

"What age do you think a woman should stop breastfeeding? "
I know when i think i shpould stop, and that's what i answered. other people should stop when they feel it's right. should have answered other...oops

Bucharest Fri 15-Jan-10 08:23:09

I can't get it to open.

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the web address (URL) surrounded by [[ and ]]. So type [[http://www.mumsnet.com]] to display a link like www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page."
