AIBU?

AIBU to be gopping mad at this woman who posted my DCs party invite on social media!?

VodkaVomitANDPoo · 03/05/2015 14:02

I made some daft invites to look like magazine covers for DCs upcoming birthday to use up a load of old photo paper.

I found it odd that I was getting text message acceptances and requests to bring siblings from mothers of children I had never heard of- when quizzed the same name came up and a mention of a Social Networking site.

It turns out one of the mother's of a child in Dc's class took a photo of the invite (which had date/time/venue)on her wall and posted it on FB under an event (wtf?)

I've hired the venue out privately and am panicking the party will be ruined, we will end up in the local paper because 200 kids turn up wanted to be entertained and fed.

I asked the mother directly and she denied it and I have no proof (screen shot etc) although I am STILL getting texts

DC will be heartbroken if I cancel I just do not know what to do for the best. The last thing I'd want it having to stand by the venue door for 3 hours instead of joining in a celebrating a birthday- It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact my child will be 7 but this is the first time we've ever held a party.

Any advice on how to handle would be greatly appreciated.

Can you or a friend find the event on facebook and post a message saying you are sorry and explain what happened? Then ask fb to remove it.

Can you explain what has happened to these mums who are contacting you? If you don't really know them, then surely they won't be too shocked? This is so bizarre, why on earth would someone do this?

That's so weird.

Weird that she'd do that and weird that anyone else would take it that they too are invited Confused

I suppose you'll just have to stand by the door until all your DC's friends have arrived, and then stick someone else on the door to not let anyone else in.

Is the event still there? Did she tag all her fb friends in it?

You can only see an event if you are invited to it.

Hi Vertcal- I cannot find the post anywhere (not brilliant with FB to be fair) and the lady is not my FB friend-so I'm guessing it's been deleted but I still got a yes from a woman yesterday via text!

She must have invited people on her fb to the event.

I assume you had the sense to reply to the texts saying there had been a mistake and you did not invite them.

How bizarre that anyone would think it an open invitation Confused

Also agree to put someone on the door and once all the legitimate guests have arrived, turn the rest away but accepting the presents before, obviously

Totally unreasonable! Any chance you can change the date by one week (and omitting to tell the original FB poster)? Grin

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 03/05/2015 14:14

Any chance you can change to date to the week before and just send the change of date to those you did invite.

Text one of the try it ons and ask them to invite you to the event in Facebook. Then you can take it from there.

In all honesty it might be better to postpone the party or change the time to earlier or later.. It's so bizarre someone doing this, it's usually daft teenagers when their parents go away.

Yanbu - who is actually stupid enough to do this? Hope she feels like an utter bell end Blush

I'd make some signs for the door and a guest list for whoever's on there - entrance to those with named invites only. I can't imagine why you'd accept an invite to the party of someone you don't know anyway. The whole thing is bonkers
