Kids doing an egg hunt

There’s something about Easter egg chocolate that makes it feel like an extra special treat! If you’re shopping for your child or picking something special for your partner, there’s a variety of different sizes and flavours currently available to choose from.

While buying lots of Easter eggs may feel like a luxury for some right now, there’s still plenty of affordable options out there to keep costs down. Although, we were surprised to find some of the more luxurious eggs cost over £80!

To help us find out which Easter eggs are loved the most, we scoured our Mumsnet Talk boards to see which ones our users rate, and also checked expert review sites to find out which eggs got top marks. We made sure to look for eggs that cater for all kinds of dietary requirements and tastes, including milk, dark, white and dairy-free chocolate.

If you’d prefer to opt for something that isn’t as sweet this Easter, don’t forget to check out our guide to the best Easter gifts for all ages this year.

If you like Dairy Milk then you will love this extra thick egg by Cadbury. Compared to their normal eggs, the chocolate is a lot chunkier so it will give you a more satisfying crunch when you bite into it.

The egg is accompanied by individually wrapped Dairy Milk chunks so you can take your time working your way through the egg and the extra treats this Easter.

How many Easter eggs should each kid get?

According to our Mumsnet users, parents buy anywhere from one to three eggs per child. This may not include treats from grandparents and other relatives or those collected in an egg hunt, so that number could end up being even greater.

In fact, in 2017, a survey found that children receive around 13 Easter eggs, as well as other treats. However, some parents have started giving other Easter gifts instead, such as toys and Easter themed gifts or books, to limit the amount of chocolate that comes into the house.

What is the best selling Easter egg in the UK?

They’ve been around for years, but Cadbury still makes some of the best-selling Easter eggs in the UK. According to a survey by Vypr, almost two thirds (64%) of consumers agree that Cadbury offers the best chocolate treats at Easter.

They have a huge range of eggs, with popular treats including Chocolate Buttons, Mini Eggs, Freddo, Creme Egg and Extra Thick Chocolate Eggs too.

The survey also found that Mars, Hotel Chocolat and Thortons were other top picks.

Where can you find the best deals on Easter eggs?

You can buy Easter eggs in high street shops and online retailers, such as John Lewis and Amazon, so you can easily pick one up when you’re out and about or get one delivered if you don’t have time to go to the shops.

Some of the best Easter egg deals tend to be found in supermarkets, such as Tesco and ASDA, with smaller eggs ranging in price from around £1 upwards. So if your budget is tight make sure to pop some in your basket during your weekly shop.

If you shop around online, there are discounts available so you may be able to grab a bargain in time for Easter Sunday.

How we chose our recommendations section

We started our research by scouring our Mumsnet forums for tips on what Easter eggs real Mumsnet users give and receive, taking into consideration a range of different tastes, needs and budgets.

Armed with a long list of recommendations, we consulted expert reviews and consumer websites to make note of any brands and products that stand out from the rest. This involved checking consumer reviews, on websites like John Lewis and Argos, to see what negative and positive feedback they’d received. We know this is the best way of working out whether this is a product that is liked and is worth spending your money on.

Finally, after doing all this, we were able to whittle down our long list to products that we think are the best Easter eggs to buy in 2024.
