Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

Thanks OYBBK.

Had intended to ask you and Gloria about this anyway.

We're meant to be going to Dorset camping for a week or so. I shall pack spare guy-ropes and pegs!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/08/2014 09:26

Good plan! I'd also do a bit of re proofing if you can :)

I've just seen the independent article on this.

We're in a nice wet and windy part of the country at the best of times, hoping for something dramatic! And then back to the hot sunshine, of course!

Keep us posted OYBBK!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/08/2014 10:52

Great blog from the Met office talking about ex-Bertha.

Mmmmh getting quite worried about our bash on Sunday in Hertfordshire. Any encouraging news OYBBK welcome

GloriaSmud · 05/08/2014 22:32

It'll be interesting whether/how this develops over the next few days. Have a feeling if anything does develop, nothing will be pinned down detail-wise until Friday or Saturday. Netweather are discussing it all here and weather scientific (used to be known as met-monkey) have got their own live blog going here.

In the meantime there are some weather warnings for the SW and Northern Ireland, tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow looks 'orribly wet for most of the country.

PseudoBadger · 05/08/2014 22:39

Oh dear it's the biggest dog agility show in the UK Thursday to Sunday... Bugger

ExcuseTypos · 05/08/2014 22:43

Thanks for starting this thread. My dd is flying back from Vietnam Saturday night landing in heathrow at 6.00 Sunday morning.

I'm hoping its not going to be too windy!

GloriaSmud · 05/08/2014 22:59

Should add that tomorrow starts 'orribly wet for a lot of the country but then the rain does clear through fairly quickly, from west to east so it should end up being a nice day for some later on.

It doesn't look like summer's going to return anytime soon. The Guardian, in their report about ex-hurricane Bertha, are saying it's going to stay unsettled for the time being.

13Stitches · 05/08/2014 23:43

Heavy rain and fog (extra fun) rolling eastwards right now. You're welcome!

BlackeyedSusan · 06/08/2014 00:43

yeah... that'd be right. off on holiday.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2014 12:00

Models arent developing it too much this morning - no wind storms unlike yesterday. However it is likely to be pretty wet in places but I doubt youd be able to tell it apart from the general wet bits and bobs that is coming this weekend.
Will update with my thoughts tomorrow!

Thank you BadKitten

StairsInTheNight · 06/08/2014 12:23

Oh, we are supposed to be off to Dorset for a week on Friday, camping. Totally unsurprised to hear of impending hurricane.

OYBBK grateful for any updates, at the moment thinking of going Monday instead to avoid winds. I don't mind rain but high winds in the tent is not fun!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2014 12:32

Stairs, I wouldnt cancel from the point of view of wind, in todays models there is nothing that suggests that wind will be an issue. It might change of course, but at present other than some potential bouts of heavy rain I cant see anything that would be a problem.

If you have a moment, OYBK, I'm organising a big picnic in Havering in Essex on Sunday. I could change to an indoor venue- but I have to decide soon----help!

ihatethecold · 06/08/2014 13:02

Watching with interest.
We are off to North Norfolk on Sunday for a few nights.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2014 13:09

Hakluyt at the moment I think the picture is a good chance of showers, perhaps some heavy. I wouldnt place money on that though.

I've got dd2's birthday party on Sunday, I would much rather hold it in the garden than the house...we're in SW Wales, what are the chances of the forecast becoming better as the days go on as seems to be the current trend (today was looking showery a few days ago and it's been lovely and sunny since about 11am)? At the moment I'm crossing everything Wink

StairsInTheNight · 06/08/2014 18:18

Thanks! I'll see how it looks on Thursday and perhaps we will just chance it! Last time we camped in high winds our tent pole snapped. Not wanting to repeat that...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2014 19:00

Flipflop, I'd say its too early to call yet. Although its doesnt look like a big windstorm is on the way the position of the track of the low really really isn't nailed down yet and that will make all the difference.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2014 19:01

I'll be able to update tomorrow lunchtime by the latest Stairs.

Mahoosive tides early next week too.

Hope it doesn't hit. West Cornwall is only just mended after the winter :o

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/08/2014 19:17

I hadnt appreciated that factor Hester - another good reason for us not to have a storm!
