Update to webchat guest colours

Hi,
This is a heads up that we're soon to introduce a change to the colours used to highlight posts on desktop and mobile.

If you've been around long enough to have the old style customised colours this won't affect you.

For newer users - we needed to add some new web chat guest colours and retire the awful mustard yellow we used in the past on desktop webchats. As a result of that we then needed to update our other colours too.

Thanks all

It's horrible. Please put it back!

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/10/2016 12:07

Is that connected to the Unit Test post? I've been reporting them as spam. Thought we had a bot.

Hi Aderyn2016,
Oh dear we're sorry you're not keen, we know any change can take some getting used to but is there any particular colour you felt strongly about?

No that's unrelated and nothing to worry about, it was our mistake we were running some tests and they unfortunately got posted live. Sorry about that!

I had the old colours but mine have changed.

That horrendous greeny yellow is awful.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2016 12:27

It's awful

It's incredibly hard to tell one post from another!!

PointlessUsername · 11/10/2016 12:28

I think the problem is the colours aren't bold enough. They looked washed out.

Soubriquet · 11/10/2016 12:30

Look at how hard it is to tell them apart

Way too pale

Update to webchat guest colours
OhFuds · 11/10/2016 12:30

^^I agree with all of the above.

The darker colours were better.

Thanks AnchorDownDeepBreath and we realise colours can be a very personal choice and we were keen to allow users who had already customised their colours to keep them.
We've flagged this to tech to look into.

Agreed. The colours are just too pale. They're barely discernible.

OP pink is bad enough but me yellow is basically invisible (mobile site, Chrome).

MrsHathaway · 11/10/2016 12:31

I'll just remark that on my screen they're even less obvious than in Soubriquet's screen shot.

Queenbean · 11/10/2016 12:33

I've started another thread about this, they're horrible, please revert!

Soubriquet · 11/10/2016 12:35

Even paler? Christ on a bike

I thought mine was bad enough

MothersGrim · 11/10/2016 12:39

I always liked HQ posts being in blue because it was a blue logo etc and the colours are too pale.

Both colours are too pale for rapid scrolling on a mobile trying to find an OP update too.

HoneyDragon · 11/10/2016 12:43

Why aren't mnhq in a blue box anymore?

That's just fucking about with the natural order of things is that.

HoneyDragon · 11/10/2016 12:44

And I'm fucking MAGNOLIA

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 11/10/2016 12:47

They are just such insipid colours

And really difficult to see, I'm constantly squinting at the screen.

I'm not anti change as rule but these are vile

JessicaMumsnet · 11/10/2016 12:48

@AnchorDownDeepBreath

I had the old colours but mine have changed.

That horrendous greeny yellow is awful.

We've had a couple of questions back from Tech.

Had you customised your colours previously? By which we mean gone into your customise area and chosen forest green or an alternative colour scheme? This was an old feature that we used to offer that some Mumsnetters who have been around a while still have.

Users that customised previously shouldn't be affected but newer users will see a change to a new set of colours.

Magnolia is such a slap in the face. It's like the rice pudding of the colour world. Dull. Bland.

MNHQ may as well be calling us all damp, wet lettuce leaves

DesolateWaist · 11/10/2016 12:48

I had the old colours and they have changed.
The new colours are just too pale.

strawberrypenguin · 11/10/2016 12:50

I'm sure I had customised colours but mine have changed! Can I change them back I couldn't find he option when I looked.
Hate the new ones they are too pale and don't stand out well enough

MrsHathaway · 11/10/2016 12:50

I have previously set custom colours and I now have the invisible insipid palette.

Coding cock up methinks

JessicaMumsnet · 11/10/2016 12:58

Thanks MrsHathaway, strawberrypenguin and DesolateWaist - Tech are going to look at your accounts specifically to investigate. Not essential but can any of you recall what custom set you had previously?

OP posts:
StarsandSparkles · 11/10/2016 12:59

Wtaf have mnhq done? 😡 the new colours are fucking awful
