Thanks for the new thread x

Magpiefeather · 01/09/2020 08:17

Thank you!

Another one here whose baby was only waking once or twice and is now waking after 4 hours then every 2 hours to feed. He is breastfed and just had his tongue tie snipped so I think that may have something to do with it.

Magpiefeather · 01/09/2020 08:26

Oh no @mj2196 that sounds so painful!! I hope you can get it sorted.

I’m with you on the absolute joy at the older one going back to nursery! I couldn’t be happier!!! She starts back tomorrow , it will be sooo good to have some peace and quiet during the day and for her to be more stimulated. That sounds awful doesn’t it, I adore her but I have found it hard with her vying for attention.

For instance
Yesterday i wanted to clean the bathroom. Baby was content in his bouncy chair and I had done loads of fun things with dd earlier on in the day, and she usually likes “helping” anyway so I thought I’d be able to do a quick clean. Wrong. I had to clean while she had a massive slobbery snotty crying tantrum for 20 solid minutes (because I wouldn’t let her wear her frozen fancy dress costume to clean the bathroom/ play in a sink full of water). She wouldn’t listen to any sense or reason. Then dh cape home just as she had calmed down, asked what was wrong and off she goes again. Honestly she has been harder work than the newborn!!! Hopefully being back at nursery will help a lot.

@Busylizzie85 thanks for the new thread! Just with regards to you saying your 10 week old maybe suffering colic - my wonder weeks app says at 12 weeks they go through a a developmental leap which makes them fussy and clingy. Could be that? Sometimes it can start before week 12, especially if your little one was over due as it's based on due date not birth date!

Busylizzie85 · 01/09/2020 10:14

@SRS1311 I did think that when I was reading about the leaps! She's definitely harder to put down for a nap now, will only settle on me during the day.
I have to say this thread has been a life saver I think I'd go mad without it!!

@Busylizzie85 Thank you! I'm pleased that we are keeping this going.

BabyBird20 · 01/09/2020 10:54

We are the same with sleeping at the moment! He's nearly 13 weeks and has gone back to one long sting in the eve then 1- 2 hours overnight!! It's killing me!! He's also gone from
Not napping at all to deciding that 5pm is the perfect time to have a 3 hour nap 😩😩 making bath and bedtime later and later!!

Gigitree · 01/09/2020 10:56

Thanks for the new thread.

Grace is 10 weeks and formula fed but she will still do a long sleep early on 4/5/6 hours then followed by either 2.5 or 3 hour sleeps
She’s happy to go 4+ hours between feeds early in the day and it’s hard to get her to have any sooner than that, but then she’s ravenous from 5pm-9.30pm 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cornishbumpkin · 01/09/2020 13:19

Thanks for the new thread, I'm confused by little mans feeding habits, he rarely goes longer than 2hrs between feeds during the day but sleeps good stretches at night. Last night he slept 8:45 til 5:45!! Don't get me wrong I am in no way complaining but just not just sure why he needs such frequent feeds in the day 🤨

Busylizzie85 · 01/09/2020 13:45

@Cornishbumpkin I have been speaking to the health visitor this morning via text to get some help with things and she said that after 6 weeks she would expect the baby to feed every 2/3 hours for shorter stints between 5-10 mins a time as by this time they are more efficient at feeding.
Im hoping that at some point this will increase in length 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Cornishbumpkin · 01/09/2020 14:45

Thanks @Busylizzie85 hopefully the gaps start to get longer soon lol

SRS1311 · 01/09/2020 15:33

@Gigitree our formula fed little one is the same - although he goes 3 hr stints through the day but recently he started being fussy and looks like hes full..I'm starting to think he doesnt want feeding every 3 hrs. How many ounces do you give? Ours is on 5oz and he is so chunky! I was beginning to think this is too much..had starting to go into 3 to 6 month clothing - frightening!!

Gigitree · 01/09/2020 16:26

She has anywhere from 120-180ml she never consistently has the same amount, but that kind of makes sense as she never seems to go the same amount of time in between feeds either.

I googled it and 120ml is 4oz and 180 is 6.3oz 😳

How old is your LO? Our formula pot suggests age should be on 180ml 5 times a day atm

Gigitree · 01/09/2020 16:27

Above should have tagged @srs

Mj2196 · 01/09/2020 18:07

@Magpiefeather honestly we’ve been breastfeeding for nearly 3 months and only 2 weeks of that have been “enjoyable” :( . Osteopath is Thursday so fingers crossed she can loosen things up a bit before our next division

No your right it will do them the world of good to be back . Im with you on the snotty screaming fits! Her tantrums have been ridiculous. she dropped her toy in the back of the car omg it was like the world was ending feel like I’ve taken 18months backwards with her .

Mj2196 · 01/09/2020 18:13

@Busylizzie85. J had also picked up his feeds more since week 7. He doesn’t go more than 2 hours in the day , if I’m lucky sometimes i get 3 hours at night but it’s more like 1.5-2 hours . I miss the 4/5 blocks I used to get 😭

Had our 12 week jabs today no temp yet no calpol given either

Busylizzie85 · 01/09/2020 19:20

@Mj2196 it's so hard Isn't it!
I used to love breast feeding but now I dread the afternoons and bedtime when she just screams at me for 5-10 mins before wearing herself out. I don't think I have ever cried so much as I have since getting pregnant.

OP posts:
SRS1311 · 01/09/2020 20:45

@Gigitree mine is just over 8 weeks old...it sounds like ours are on pretty similar amounts so that's made me feel a bit reassured lol the back of our formula says they should be on 5 feeds also but until recently mine was on 8 (basically every 3 hrs day and night) hes just started to go a longer stretch at night which I hope continues! Otherwise it does seem like hes eating a lot

Mj2196 · 01/09/2020 21:25

@Busylizzie85 aw love I’m sure your doing fantastic . it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. 3 months is supposed to be a turning point though. I’ve been appalled at the lack of support tbh ,Just can’t wait to get his latch sorted & be able to enjoy it . !

Bless her , Babe does that when he’s overtired . If only they knew how better they’d feel after a nice sleep 🤣

Missgemini · 02/09/2020 01:41

11 week old breastfed baby here and same as others have said. Longest stint in the first part of the night (record was 6 hours last night), then wakes every 1 to 2 hours after. Day time is still every 2 to 3 hours though!.

Thanks for the new thread and thanks team. These threads are so reassuring that things are normal. Otherwise, I'd be second guessing myself so much!

Busylizzie85 · 02/09/2020 12:20

I do hope so @Mj2196

Any lady's with reflux babies what is the best thing to do or get prescribed? I'm positive ivy has silent reflux she's now crying at every feed and getting in to a right state.

OP posts:
BabyBird20 · 02/09/2020 13:11

@Busylizzie85 they will try and start you off on gaviscon which was useless for us and caused awful constipation. Then they try ranitidine which works for some babies before going to omezerapole (not sure of spelling!!!) which seems to work the best. Not sure why they don't go straight to that one, it's what I'm holding out for!

Busylizzie85 · 02/09/2020 13:46

Thanks @BabyBird20 I'll hold out for the better stuff!

My daughter in that annoying in between stage of being too big for 0-3 month clothes but too small for 3-6 month clothes. Did anyone find any good brands for this stage? I guess I am looking for brands where the 0-3 comes up big.

I have her in onsies or rompers most of the time as they seem the most comfy.

SRS1311 · 02/09/2020 14:30

@Busylizzie85 we've been through the silent reflux journey. They started us on Gaviscon and like @BabyBird20 says - it was useless. We went to the GP and they prescribed Ranitidine but it turns out this got taken off the market last year as its linked to a carcinogen! The next one after this is omeprazole which is the most effective but apparently it is an expensive (and strong) medication so GPs are reluctant to prescribe it. It works by shutting off the stomach acid completely so quite effective. We had to be referred to the hospital to be seen by a consultant who then prescribed it, took about 3 weeks to get an appointment. But I know of people in different parts of the country who have been prescribed omeprazole by GP no issues so think it depends where you are!

Our little ones reflux has got a lot better and Omeprazole seems to take a week to properly kick in. So I'd probably advise to get the ball rolling sooner rather than later if your little one is suffering!
