Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Hello Ladies, Congrats all!
It will be nice to swap notes even on DC5 theres still so much to learn!

YellowWellies · 27/09/2014 17:00

Parks arse slightly gingerly... holding CS stitches!

fedupofrainydays · 27/09/2014 18:05

My stitches are still a bit pinchy too . I had these grand ambitions of a shallow bath everyday with tea tree and lavender oils but as we have been in and out of hospital I've not managed it!

Dc5?! Wow - super mum!!

:) fedup im super something!

Well you've both answered one of my questions I was going to ask the csec mums. They've used staples on my wound and was wondering if anyone else had to have them? My last 2 sections I had the disposable ones. Also wondered if anyone had a drain aswell?

Captainmcgraw · 27/09/2014 20:21

Hello fellows mums!

What drugs has everyone been sent home with? Was used to morphine, paracetamol, diclophenac combo in hospital and they sent me home with some poxy ibuprofen (which I'm taking with paracetamol). Very much noticing the difference and in agony if leave it too long between doses.

Gun, can't offer advice I'm afraid as had dissolvable stitches and no drain. You mentioned things didn't go so smoothly - welcome to share your story on here where there's no-one to scare if it helps at all.

Have you both managed the first post c-section poo?! I'm on about the third with help of laxatives but it is really horrible still (although definitely better than post third degree tear).

fedupofrainydays · 27/09/2014 20:45

Doing a poo after my third degree tear was frightening! I used to shake and sweat out of fear it would open up again. It never did.

Lactulose works wonders for making you poo.

My hospital sends you home with zero drugs. Have to get your own in! I did get some antibiotics last time to prevent infection from tear but nothing this time. One of their cost saving measures.

Currently watching strictly and semi forgot I have a baby! He fed most of the day it feels like so maybe he's having a wee rest before the night time party!

Hope everyone is feeling well. I've made use of my new nespresso machine today that's for sure

Anyone swaddling? Ds1 hated it but ds2 seems quite keen so going with it. Well if it means he sleeps more....

gunwalloe · 27/09/2014 22:06

No pain killing drugs here either just horrible needles that hubby has to inject me every night.

I bought paracetamol and ibuprofen still taking the max I can hopefully when the staples are out on Tuesday I can be more mobile it's so tight around the wound.

My bowels are back to normal thankfully trapped wind was a killer in hospital

I'm swaddling baby prefers it.

I will post my birth story tomorrow. Got the weigh in and heel prick test tomorrow when the midwife comes I'm hoping she's not lost to much weight.

YellowWellies · 27/09/2014 22:32

We're swaddling with blankets in hospital and with Velcro swaddles once home. As for drugs I'm on a lovely mix of tramadol, paracetamol and ibuprofen. Not sure what I'll be sent home with?

porcito · 28/09/2014 00:21

Hi everyone! Congrats to all!

Well, they really do things differently here! I was sent home the day after the C section - they do EVERYTHING for the baby, change her nappy, give her first bath, supplement her with the bottle which they insist on giving her Hmm. It was overall a really positive experience, but had a few mad hormonal meltdowns over the mixed messages between what the pediatrician is telling me and what they do in the UK/US. She was so tiny that he told me they would take her to give her formula while they waited for my milk to come in. It still hasn't arrived, but she's latching on fine.

I can't laugh or sneeze without having to lie down propped against 500 cushions afterwards. Totally underestimated the C section recover - didn't realise how painful it would be to walk.

Nothing like having a MIL watch you in the shower!

Hope everyone's bodies are recovering nicely!

YellowWellies · 28/09/2014 00:57

Porcito it is more full on than I imagined.

How's feeding going with everyone? I'm stunned by how much more efficient she is than her brother. She can drain an engorged boob in 20 minutes - J would be twice as long. Consequently I've spent most of today trying to overfeed her convinced she's hungry. Whoops Blush

porcito · 28/09/2014 01:56

She latches on well but struggled for the first 2 days to keep her awake for long enough.
With the formula supplements too we're both managing to split it quite evenly, and fingers crossed, no confusion yet!

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 03:10

Sometimes I think we have got it feeding wise but then others he will faff on and off the boob for two hours not settling and rooting but then falling asleep after two sucks. I think he has a tongue tie too but mild. A few mentioned it but in a way That meant it shouldn't cause any probs.

Glad you survived the Mil porcito snd generally how the do things over there. I too found what the paediticions to say different things to other doctors and midwives which was SO confusing.

Hope everyone sleeping ok

YellowWellies · 28/09/2014 04:15

Fed up she had a mild tongue tie but the difference now its cut is massive. The doc who cut it reckoned it was too small to affect feeding but she went from disinterested / nodding off on the boob to a little hoover. Though that could be a sheer coincidence based on when it was cut - middle of day two?

As for sleep - night one I stared at her like Shock and got 2-3 hours. Night two she wanted on me for cuddles or to feed every 40 minutes from 11pm til 4am so I got a couple of hours. Tonight she's much better feeding every 4 hours and up for 1 hour to drain both boobs and get her bum changed. I'd really like her to stick to this pattern. I've been feeding every 2-3 hours during the day to try to stretch her at night when I've been guided by her.

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 10:16

I might go and see breastfeeding consultant and get them to see what they think re tongue tie. He can take forever to feed.
Took two hours to settle him last night - on and off the boob as well. So feeling not at my best today! Tomorrow DH is back at work so I will be up at 7 with ds whether I like it or not. Feeling the fear....

YellowWellies · 28/09/2014 10:43

Fedup do it its made such a difference here. Today my milk is properly in and god she's an eating machine. Not crying but every time I walk past her crib she's making feeding cues. Am glad we're past the hysterical hunger of day two.

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 11:26

The clinic is on Thursday so will go then. I've got to take ds with me too. Eeeek

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 11:26

Ds1 I should say...

YellowWellies · 28/09/2014 12:26

It took one sec to snip so hopefully your appointment is quick. I'm dreading having to take the two of them out and about! Confused

gunwalloe · 28/09/2014 13:27

fedup definitely seek extra help I wish I had with my previous babys I went through a nightmare with my first two its only due to my bloody mindedness that I persevered.

Day 5 and im all weepy its so annoying silly things starting me of the midwifes here later im hoping I can hold it together while shes here

gunwalloe · 28/09/2014 13:30

yellow im being drained in 20-30 mins shes doing really well and 3-4 hourly seems to good to be true at the mo I really hope it continues this way.

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 13:34

I think we will go private to get it down if breastfeeding person thinks he has one as it takes about a month on NHS for that 2 second op!

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 28/09/2014 13:53

I should say she fed 4 hourly last night, the night before was every 40 minutes! She's every 2 hours at most in the day but did let me have a warm lunch today.

Just had first poo! was fine phew.....

YellowWellies · 28/09/2014 14:45

We're about to go home

Eeeeeeep Confused

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 15:04
