Yes, have taken Clomid. Took it for one cycle and fell pg immediately

It gave me terrible ovarian pain for a few days, but well worth it!

Good luck!

Fingers crossed! I had PCOS and wasn't ovulating, so it just took a kick-start to get my body to remember what to do!

Hope it is the same for you xxx

Well, mine worked really well, I put it in the bathroom cabinet and decided that when we were in the new house we would go for it hell for leather.

We hit the jackpot in the rented house in Kent, which we were in for 6 months, after trying for the best part of 9 years.

Powerful stuff

Would you be OK with a multiple birth ??

Because friends of ours, had twins, they were delighted, but shocked as the last time they used it they only produced one baby.

I took 50mg clomid for one cycle and like hunkersneakymunker conceived that cycle (almost 2 years trying)

it did exacerbate my hormones IIRC but not badly

good luck

I must admit I was like you .. I asked around for advice before, I read up all the side effects (on the drug leaflet and on the internet) .. took my first pill and had one hell of a panic attack

a friend had to talk me down .. because I so wanted to shove my finger down my throat and puke it up

sometimes, the less you know the better

I know I was incredibly lucky because you only have a 25% chance of conceiving in any cycle .. the clomid can give you that 25% chance by boosting your system

OK, I've said this before and I'll say it again...... DO NOT GET OVER EXCITED AND CONFIDENT THIS WILL WORK.......I am not being an old misery and I really do hope if towrks for you but it doesn't for lots of people. if you go into it like this, you may be building yourself up for a massive fall and believe me - it hurts when you hit back down.

As I say, hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones and get pg (maybe even with twins) right away and you can look back at my post with a wry smile.....but please bear in mind there are lots of other treatments out there and they are in use because Clomid doesn't always do the trick.

Good luck and I really do wish you all the luck in the world.

Sorry to barge in - but would like to know if Clomid is only prescribed if doctor thinks you are not ovulating naturally? Or is it prescribed even if woman may be ovulating normally? Can GP prescribe it?

Report
runtus · 01/08/2005 11:57

GP can prescribe it but not aure what the criteria are for when and how.....you would have to ask

milesysgirl - did you get an NHS referal? After just one year? And you already have one child?

We're now being told here that they won't refer you at all for possible infertility if you've already conceived naturally once. It was 3 years of trying and failing, but apparently they've done away with even that recently. The NICE guidelines don't seem to know anything about this change though - they still say after one year if you have concerns. Grrr!
