Has anyone had a labour that's just not that painful?

I am having regular contractions, 15ish minutes apart (but closest together only 2 apart!), but... they're just not that painful! I know I have quite a high pain threshold and these definitely aren't BH, but not sure what to do at this point. Just wait until they're intolerable and then start thinking about the hospital? For various reasons I'd rather not have a homebirth... (difficult last labour with OP baby, parents are docs and violently opposed so although personally I love the idea don't want to stress them out...)

Well i remember clearly that with my 2nd birth/labour when the contractions were about tens mins apart i was so joyful, saying "yay, this is not nearly as bad as last time, i can totally cope this time!!!"

Cue 2 hours later when i was on my hands and knees on the hospital floor, screaming it was a 100 times worse than the last baby!

I was turned away from hospital twice because they said I couldn't possibly be in labour as I wasn't in enough pain.

I waited till my contractions were five minutes apart and then pretended that they were hurting more than they were In the end, they kept me in because my blood pressure was high - they still didn't believe me.

Officially I had a labour of 45 minutes, because by the time someone examined me and agreed that it was labour, I was 10cm dilated.

If I were you, I'd wait till either they do hurt, or they are just four or five minutes apart. Don't take any guff from them. INSIST that they examine you if they don't want to.

Good luck, will look out for birth announcements

I didn't actually know I was in labour with DD3. I kept having back ache which came and went. I felt absolutley no tightnings. The only reason I went in was becasue the achey back was coming and going at regular intervals. I got to hospital and was 6 cm dialated. When it came to laer though OMG that was nasty!!! IDD3 was the first time I stated in labour myself. DD1 &2 were both inductions with a hormone drip.

Yes, I can type and talk through the contractions even, still 15 mins apart but not sure on duration because I am walking around loads and using VS's brilliant internet timer, but that means I don't get to it until after it's started and then after it's finished - maybe 20 secs to a minute? The first one was REALLY intense (we'd just, ahem, done something to try and bring it on) and had that very definite build up and wind down I remember from last time, and I'd guess it was about 90 seconds long, so maybe that's why I feel underwhelmed by the 9 or so I've had since (that was around 4.15).

OOOOOOOH I'D FORGOTTEN HOW EXCITING IT IS!

I love mumsnet! DH is just running around faffing (rather than putting DD to bed, which might be a bit more helpful) and going 'are you really having contractions? Are you REALLY in labour? Are you REALLY having a baby?' Men. Bless 'em.

Have been strategic snacking all afternoon. I puked A LOT during last labour (prob from around 5 hrs in, having had steak pie and chips - DH's great idea - at about 4 hours in) and have already been on the loo a lot this afternoon (was exactly the same last time), so trying to just have toast/cereal bars/mash etc.

Aw bless!!!! Lol at the thread title!

Mine started off like this last time, except closer together. They were every 5 mins or so and me and Ds1 were laughing through them and being very silly becase mummy was making odd noises!

It was great for about half an hour then as soon as mum turned up to remove ds1, they got painful - I was still laughing though, well for the next half hour or so.

After that it was completely very painful (as lola would say) and I lost my focus a bit

He was born 3.5 hours after the first one

GOOD LUCK!!!!

i had a easy labour at the begining, I managed fine with the first 9 hours, then they came one on top of the other, and I was screaming. Callum was born 2 hours after they became really intense, but the rest of the contractions were a breeze

Love 'completely very painful'! I remember that bit, although not that well...

It's DD's 2nd birthday today - should prob try and hold out until midnight!

My sis is turning up to stay here and hopefully we'll be back before DD gets up in the morning [wishful thinking emoticon]. She is bringing a TENS so I'll start using that if it gets more painful. Back is definitely hurting, which I guess suggests OP, but then DD was OP and I don't remember back being painful at all.

God, maybe I just don't remember anything about last time?

No re sex! Although DD who seems to sense something's up woke up from nap today and said 'there's a baby in Mummy's tummy. that's baby Isla (one of our names).' I said 'what do you want to call it if it's a little brother?' and she said 'it's a girl. it's a girl. Sister!'
