What Mumsnet users say
MummyLaLa88 · Tried & Tested
At home, we use Aveeno barrier cream - my daughter sleeps 12 hours at night so you can imagine, her nappy is very wet in the morning and she has never had a nappy rash. We only use it in the evening as it is very thick.

Our verdict
  • Ease of use: 4.5/5

  • Effectiveness: 4/5

  • Value for money: 4.5/5

If you’re looking for a thicker barrier cream to ward off redness and irritation linked to moisture on the skin, then the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream might be the ideal choice for your baby.

I used this nappy rash cream for a week with my two-year-old daughter and found that it had a similar consistency to Sudocrem, making it a little tricky to apply initially. However, as soon as it’s spread evenly on the skin, it absorbs quickly and does its job effectively.

The key ingredients, including zinc oxide and oat extract, work together to form a protective barrier against moisture and irritants. Clinically proven to protect against the causes of nappy rash from the first use, this barrier cream is gentle on sensitive skin. This was crucial for me, given my daughter's eczema - I wanted to avoid anything that might trigger a flare-up.

Overall, the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier cream offers good value for money due to its long-lasting effectiveness and suitability for daily use.

How we tested Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream

I tested the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream out for a week with my two-year-old toddler, using it after every nappy change.

In order to fully assess its effectiveness, I compared it to other nappy rash creams such as Sudocrem, Metanium, Bepanthen and Childs Farm Nappy Cream. I then scored it out of five on the following criteria: ease of use, effectiveness and value for money.

How easy is the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream to use?

The Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream has a similar consistency to Sudocrem, so is thicker than other barrier creams like the Childs Farm Nappy Cream and the Weleda Calendula Nappy Change Cream. As such, I didn’t find it as smooth to apply at the Childs Farm, however I still found it easy to use.

This cream stays white when initially applied to the skin and is a little greasy on the fingers during application, unlike clear gel-like creams such as My Expert Midwife No Harm Bum Balm, but this disappears quickly once the cream is absorbed into the skin.

While a little product goes a long way, which means the 100ml tube lasts a good amount of time, it’s a little bulky when stored in a changing bag.

How effective is the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream?

I am generally a fan of Aveeno Baby products after using the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Moisturising Lotion for a year, which has been effective at keeping my toddler’s eczema-prone skin well moisturised.

Thankfully, the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream doesn’t disappoint. It successfully reduces redness and soreness, but it’s designed as a barrier cream, so won’t eliminate severe nappy rash like Sudocrem or Metanium will.

The formulation contains colloidal oatmeal which helps to soothe and treat skin irritation, as well as zinc oxide which creates a breathable barrier that guards against excessive moisture. I also like that it’s fragrance- and dye-free.

Is the Aveeno Baby Daily Care Barrier Cream good value for money?

Yes. At £6, it is averagely priced compared to other nappy rash creams on the market. However, it’s not as versatile as products like Sudocrem, which is a barrier cream, treats severe nappy rash, and can also be used on eczema and burns among other things.
