Today's WH is as follows - Woman's Hour Election Debate. In a special extended 90 minute programme, Nuala McGovern hosts the Woman's Hour Election Debate. Senior women from the main political parties of Great Britain outline their priorities for women and answer your questions. Taking part are: Scottish National Party spokesperson for Consular Affairs and International Engagement Hannah Bardell; Reform UK candidate Maria Bowtell; Green Party spokesperson for Housing and Communities Ellie Chowns; Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats Daisy Cooper; Conservative Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work Mims Davies; Labour Party Chair and Shadow Secretary for Women and Equalities Anneliese Dodds, and Plaid Cymru’s Westminster Leader Liz Saville Roberts.

Questions via text 84844 or WhatsApp - 03700100444

I intend to send something like the following - Given that you are all designated senior women politicians, speaking as such on Woman's Hour, can we possibly decide an answer to the question - What is a woman?

Send in yours!

I think the issue is that they won't then be pressed to explain how you identify as a woman.

I was trying to think of how to get around that. Maybe something like

"Given it's accepted that sex and gender are different things with separate protected characteristics why should someone with a feminine gender and male sex have access to provisions available to the female sex?"

heldinadream · 18/06/2024 09:27

@123ZYX please send it, the more questions the better! We might get none through or one might be picked on the subject I don't care which one I just would like it to put in an appearance and there's only an hour before the programme starts!

”Given the amount of debate about what the protected characteristic ‘sex’ in the Equality Act refers to, what are the arguments against amending the act so that it is clear it refers to biological sex”

123ZYX · 18/06/2024 09:31

@heldinadream absolutely. I listened to last weeks interview with the green party co-leader and felt they went quite easily on her. I'm just hoping that listener questions will give a bit more challenge to them.

I think the more questions sent in on a particular topic will likely influence the topics they decide to cover

WhodoVoodoo · 18/06/2024 09:32

Someone should ask Anneliese Dodds, how Rosie Duffield is after her withdrawal from hustings due to death threats. Would be telling.

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 09:39

Done! I asked the same question as you OP. Bet they won’t ask it though. Hope I’m
proved wrong.

Floisme · 18/06/2024 09:39

How about, 'Why do you support a law that enables someone to change their birth certificate?'

heldinadream · 18/06/2024 09:40

Send them! Send them all!

I've sent in a couple of questions.

Be interesting to see if WH have the balls to tackle the subject .. . Pardon the pun ...

Villagetoraiseachild · 18/06/2024 09:48

How about,
Would you want your frail and unwell mum in the same hospital ward as a man?

Waxingmoons · 18/06/2024 09:55

How do you know that you are nonbinary?
What are the signs of being born in the wrong body?

  • Where do I go to find my correct body?
what methods do exist to find out one’s gender identity??
Sausagenbacon · 18/06/2024 10:07

I've just started listening. Can anyone say who the Labour person is?

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:09

Boom! This will be interesting….

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:09

SNP saying poor trans no regard for women!!

DanceTheDevilBackIntoHisHole · 18/06/2024 10:09

First question!!!

123ZYX · 18/06/2024 10:10

Sausagenbacon · 18/06/2024 10:07

I've just started listening. Can anyone say who the Labour person is?

Labour has Sarah Jones - shadow minister for industry and decarbonisation, so seems an unusual choice

senua · 18/06/2024 10:10

First question: what is a woman
SNP: Trans people blah blah blah

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:11

But what about the impacts on women’s?!?!

oh piss off - who is this banging on about far right?

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:11

SNP didn't answer the question AT ALL!

Upsidetriangle · 18/06/2024 10:12

The SNP woman! They haven’t budged an inch! What ridiculous emotive, biased posturing from her!

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:12

Daisy Cooper - vast majority "identify" honestly this bollocks is not good for my blood pressure!!

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:14

Basically too many service providers so can't be expected to think about everything- it's all working well- Yes seriously!!!

No contradiction- so Basically hard of thinking writ large.

BionicBadger · 18/06/2024 10:14

Oh yes the equality act is working brilliantly. Hence there are no court cases where women are fighting for the rights they are losing. Useless. Next!

TigathaChristie · 18/06/2024 10:15

They are all starting from the point of view of the TRANS - except Reform. So basically cannot answer the ffing question.
