First item is the Hate bill and JK's tweets - they did invite her on but haven't heard back yet

For women Scotland will be on too.

'How do you diagnose hatred'

Asks Emma

Very interesting. I find it frustrating that all of the comments that "it will probably be fine and not many people won't be prosecuted" takes no account of the chilling effect on speech.

LarkLane · 02/04/2024 10:12

Just listening in.
View amongst police officers that training was inadequate.

WarriorN · 02/04/2024 10:12

I missed who the man is speaking now - a journalist for the times in Scotland

FWS on now

Susan on FWS!

Journalist was John Booth @WarriorN

I wonder if the real reason that sex didn't go into the new Act is that it would immediately introduce a conflict with transgender identity and that was the thing that needed to be protected above all.

WarriorN · 02/04/2024 10:14

Crimes are treated more seriously if they've been attached to a hate crime description.

So crimes against women are seen as less serious as it's not a hate crime.

Susan Smith: a man going to The Rocky Horror Picture Show could be protected if there was any aggro directed towards him while a women doing the same wouldn't be and might be questioned about choosing to dress provocatively.

Yes - if they added misogyny to the bill they'd have had to define a woman. Imagine the scenes.

I think the reason sex isn’t there is where would you start? Misogyny is acceptable across huge swathes of society it would be absolutely impossible to police.

WarriorN · 02/04/2024 10:17

Process becomes the punishment.

Free speech adjustments were proposed but it was all thrown out

Susan moving on to the process becomes the punishment.

I suspect this. They needed time to draft a bill that wasn’t going to protect GC women from harassment whilst still pretending to be an anti-misogyny bill, is my best guess.

WarriorN · 02/04/2024 10:18

Emma describing how JK has thrown it down and challenged the whole thing

OP posts:
LarkLane · 02/04/2024 10:18

Ministers decided " free speech" amendment would upset "the trans lobby."

LarkLane · 02/04/2024 10:20

Emma. Can the police not have a proportionate response to this or do you not trust them.

LarkLane · 02/04/2024 10:22

Susan. Crtical of SNP re failure to legislate for misogyny.
Emma. Havent heard back from SNP.

They say they are working on a misogyny hill, so that can’t be it

WarriorN · 02/04/2024 10:23

Son great messages being read out.

Emma also reading the 'balance' but corrected that JK wouldn't describe herself as 'anti trans.'

OP posts:
nauticant · 02/04/2024 10:23

Emma Barnett reading out a message that said JKR is "anti-trans" and EB immediately corrected that to say she's not. That internal guidance in the BBC is getting through.

WarriorN · 02/04/2024 10:23

She's hoping JK will call in clearly....

It's also on Twitter - they've sometimes avoided putting these pieces on Twitter.

Hmm. Well done FWS!
I'm not happy with the constant references to JKR " misgendering" without any reference to clarifying what she actually said.
