It’s really motivating to read about everyone’s losses, and interesting to hear about the wide range of side effects.
I’m on week 11 of Wegovy now, and I’ve lost 16lbs. In a way I feel slightly disappointed, as apart from the first two weeks where I lost 7lbs, I’ve only had very small losses, and two weeks I stayed the same, and one week I gained. However, if I’d known back in January I’d lose over a stone by mid-March, I would have been thrilled. I suppose I thought it would have happened faster, but it does all add up and I'm going to keep going.
I’m still not up to 1.0 yet and am having some quite significant side effects which I’d like to share for those who are reading this and thinking of starting. I apologise in advance for TMI, and advise to not read on if you don’t like gruesome details.
- Like others mentioned on the old thread, I am also bone-achingly tired. I only have enough energy to do what I need to do, and things like socialising and other extra activities are taking a back seat which is a bit sad.
- I’ve lost interest in cooking (my passion) and have an unpredictable appetite, which is making food shopping, meal prep and packing lunches for work a bit difficult, and I’m still wasting a lot of food.
- I’m always thirsty, and often wake up with my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth.
- I have a very unpredictable tummy. My digestive system feels very sluggish and most of the time I’m constipated and suffering from painful trapped wind in my chest which feels like a stitch. However, I also experience bouts of very sudden (and impressive) diarrhoea for no reason at all. Breaking wind can now only confidently be done on the toilet.
- I feel queasy most of the time and I’m sick a lot for no reason, like when I wake up in the morning, while I’m brushing my teeth, if I smell/see something I don’t like, too hungry, too full, too hot, coughing fit, acid reflux etc.
As a result of the above, I have to go to bed early, I have to drink A LOT of water, I can’t drink alcohol, I can’t eat fatty, salty or sugary food, I can’t eat big portions of anything (even if healthy), I can’t eat too close to bedtime or mindlessly snack, and I have to make sure I eat lots of fruit and veg to ease constipation. This has made me mindful of my consumption habits, and I’ve made changes which are good for my health and I see this as a positive.
Also, since starting Wegovy, I haven’t experienced the crippling period or back pain that I’ve suffered every month since I was a teenager due to having endometriosis. I’ve tried to look into this further online, but there is only anecdotal evidence that links Wegovy to improved endometriosis symptoms. It’s a pretty crazy coincidence though. Has anyone else noticed similar?
Wegovy is “expensive” and has some unpleasant side effects some of the time, but I couldn’t have lost this weight without it, it’s made me change some unhealthy behaviours, and it’s looking likely that I will reach my goal weight / healthy BMI by the end of summer, so it is definitely worth it for me.
Sorry for the really long post! Good luck everyone.
