So r4 reports the environment agency as saying for this afternoon right down the east coast to Essex. Just eating my breakfast so will dig out the relevant info in a little bit.

environment agency map

If you are in affected areas please take this seriously. it might be catching people in the south unawares because as is right there is a lot of focus on the severe effects on the storm further north.

the sea can unleash such destruction...even in the UK

It certainly can. Look what happened 60 years ago

Here's the website for Scottish flood warnings. Running a bit slow so probably really busy.

Oh crap.
My youngest two go to school that is only a couple of miles from the coast at one of the places with a flood warning. There's only marsh between the school and the sea and has flooded before.

thank you for that justmuddling.

SPA link hasnt opened for me yet. I don't think flooding will be so much of an issue for Scotland. Which is jolly good as it has enough to contend with today what with storm force winds and blizzards.

I guess the thames Barrier will be closing.

scary
dc's school is in a flood area (but hasn't flooded in 60 years and s behind the barrier).
good luck to all of you in risky areas.
now might be a time to get all important documents safe high up and the OFRS ready.

absolutely mousmous. Barriers are great, but its important to also take precautions just in case.

Jayne. Check the EA warnings for your area and i guess have a plan to pull them out of school early if necc. I hope the school are on the ball.

I trust the school implicitly, Good thing really. The areas at the highest warning but looking at the map, they're just outside the coloured area, luckily Smile

Keep safe everyone

I'm in Cumbria. I'm on the coast and its a bit wild but I'm enough inland to miss flooding.

Do you know if this will affect Dover-Calais ferries early tomorrow? My ds is in a double decker (I think) going from near Wales to Germany getting to the ferry about 6 am.

I hope everyone stays safe over the next couple of days.

Well its not too pretty here on the North West coast. My friend has had to go home and get the sandbags out as she lives right on the seafront.

If its that bad here, I really feel for everyone on the East coast. I hope Its not as bad as it could be.

Environment agency website is creaking under the strain. EA have a twitter page where you can find quick info.

Yes the Thames Barrier is supposed to be closing. Not that it helps me, as we're just on the wrong side of it Hmm.

Still there are flood defences here, and we haven't had serious flooding in the area since the one 60 years ago.

Theres also a fb page if you click on the severe weather warnings you get a clear summary.

The Thames is pretty low at the moment isnt it Ephiny? Hopefully the lack of rainfall recently will help lower the impact for you.

Actually east London's not even showing orange on the EA map. Probably will be OK, the barrier closing is just a precaution, I guess. Flood warnings as far in as Dartford though.
