Holiday clothes

Hopefully going on a ‘hot’ holiday this summer and will need to pretty much start from scratch for a capsule wardrobe, as all I’ve got in my existing wardrobe are one very light cotton’wafting’ dress and a couple of well loved very soft cotton shirts.

I’m small and a bit round these days - size 14.

I like the look of Arket linen shorts and trousers, so will go and try those on.

I mainly like black and white in the summer. Any ideas for what I should be looking for? Arket prices are as high as I’m willing to go.

Just bumping for you as am also going in a hot holiday. I like dresses.

Something very budget I've not long bought is an ethical cotton t shirt dress from Next. I bought the black and don't know if they had other colours. It's really soft fabric but with some structure and was under £20.

Linen shirts! Look great over a swimming suit with some shorts or on their own if a bit longer. Have seen nice good price ones in zara, M&S and HM.

These are great. Thank you. I never would have thought of Mango and I really like those shorts. The Matalan dress is lovely but I really need to buy in real life and haven’t got one I can get to.

Cos only works for me for tops. Everything else is far too long.

Dresses No need to coordinate anything much cooler than shorts and t shirts

I’ve got 2 brilliant cotton ones, but am on the lookout for a black linen one with short sleeves. I think I’d get a lot of use out of it at home too.

Any specific recs? I’d especially like a black midi and a black/white printed one.

following with interest!

@thedevilinablackdress I'll try that one and the Arket one on as soon as I can. They look very similar, so one of them should hopefully work well for me.

Thanks. Both of these are nice. I really want a print rather than plain and something I can try on in a real shop. Haven’t got a Matalan.

How about this dress… I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think?

... who are you all with £99 to spend on ONE item of clothing? (esp when OP says she needs to buy a whole wardrobe). Genuinely curious given the amount of threads here about the cost of living crisis.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/04/2023 21:07

Thanks all. The John Lewis one is pretty but too expensive. I can afford up to £300 for absolutely everything including sandals and a swimming costume, I think.

H&M one is nice but jersey. I want that really thin soft cotton that’s basically like wearing a giant handkerchief!

Thanks @Niftythrifter I’m hoping for a print rather than plain but I’ll check out the first one in store.

The John Lewis one is actually pretty much perfect bar the price. I’ll keep an eye out for a deal!

What about this one from Accessorize?

Bumping this.

I really fancy a dress a bit like this but ideally more black than white and in the lightest cotton ever. Does anybody have any ideas where one might find such a thing?

I tried that one on in store last week. Its incredibly heavy fabric, which surprised me. Too heavy for a hot holiday.

Rina66 · 27/04/2023 06:16

I have this in a few colours, which is a thinner version of the black and white M & S dress you posted. The blue is gorgeous too, but it's viscose not cotton, very light and floaty though....
