Dated make up

I'm really confused. On another thread people said wearing eyeliner on the undereye was dated. I wear brown or copper normally around halfway across my eye. I don't want to look like a teenager but is this really dated? What do other people do.
(PS I'm low maintenance so no complicated cat eye type things will work for me!)

Personally I stopped doing that mid 90s, so I do find it dated. Although maybe the trend is back and I'm unaware

TheVolturi · 16/10/2021 22:18

Oh dear I do this too op!

PurpleDaisies · 16/10/2021 22:19

I was also thinking of starting a thread asking what non dates make up actually looks like. I have no clue. I probably look 48. I am 40.

wolfstarling · 16/10/2021 22:21

I do this too. Blush

wolfstarling · 16/10/2021 22:22

Oh sorry do you mean inner eyelid? If so I stopped that in 1990.

Schhhteeevie · 16/10/2021 22:22

It’s definitely dated - I’ve always thought it was ageing but it’s now dated AND ageing! Sorry!!!

But what do people do instead. Surely not everyone is a make up expert now?

It's dated, and it's definitely ageing.

Schhhteeevie · 16/10/2021 22:24

Most younger girls seem to wear a catseye at the top only.

BelleOfTheProvince · 16/10/2021 22:24

Underneath the eyelid but not on the waterline

What's your hair/skin/eye colour?

I also do this, about a third of the way along. I'm nearly 70 and my eyes just disappear if I don't do something though - mascara looks ridiculous but some soft grey kohl seems to work. I'm happy to be dated!

wolfstarling · 16/10/2021 22:28

Argh someone please post an example!

MapleMay11 · 16/10/2021 22:34

I use powder shadow underneath the lower lashes, never liner. A cat's eye flick is really easy with practice and can lift your whole face.

BelleOfTheProvince · 16/10/2021 22:37

Like the ticked one but not nearly as heavy. I do not tend to do eyeliner on top. Brown, copper not black.

Ha! I was about to ask the same thing. I guess I haven’t changed my style since I was early 20s and am now early 40s. Oops!! I must be very dated!!!

wheresmymojo · 16/10/2021 22:41

Yep, it's dated.

I realised earlier this year that my make up was looking dated and made some changes and getting rid of eyeliner on my bottom lash line was one of those changes.

It looked weird (to me) for the first few days but now I think it looks much better and I look more youthful without it.

BrilliantBulb · 16/10/2021 22:43

I think it’s dated. Try a little shadow there instead to wean yourself off it.

Darkdarknights · 16/10/2021 22:44

I do eyeliner only on the top as underneath is too bold.

Judging by the guess my age thread which I assume you are referring to, my look is apparently dated though as I look very much like the op!

Sittinginthesand · 16/10/2021 22:46

I do this to. I won’t be changing it. I do it fairly lightly and blend it in, it just lifts my invisible eyelashes, mascara doesn’t work on the bottom ones.

BelleOfTheProvince · 16/10/2021 22:49

I don't want to look like a teen. I don't want to look aged either. What else do people change without looking like mutton?
I'm mid thirties if it helps.

TBH the heavy cat eye liner on the top is very much on it's way out now too...

Ditto heavy contouring, matte bases, etc.

Everything is going more natural, glowing/dewey (thankfully IMO).

Exception is a punk influenced eye look (see pic) but I would say heavy eye make up is generally quite ageing as eyeshadow tends to go into creases/wrinkles

mynameiscalypso · 16/10/2021 22:53

This is the only way I've ever been able to do eyeliner and it's taken me 20 years to get to this stage. Very disappointed to learn that it's now dated.
