WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, November 07 already, WEEK ONE AGAIN, all welcome

Hello! This is week one of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007 although we have been a bit lost along the way, apologies and welcome everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

I am most certainly going to be very seriously doing this over the next six months as I have an horrendous commute and the only way of getting through it is enough sleep/good food/no wine in the week so, do join us, everyone is welcome.

As usual I have been crap and have eaten wonderful things all weekend and last week as it was half term. But it has to stop as I am corpulent and lethargic so I intend to be an example to you all!

In the meantime, this morning I had a sausage in a roll followed by 2 slices of bacon in a roll and then wow, dh's amazing beef pie, which he made yesterday, followed by treacle tart from the local farm shop WITH clotted cream and I drank some wine last night but not that much and fell asleep cudding dd at about 9.30pm. Hmm. Being happy and going to bed early but not much else so I MUST improve!

So, the challenge for this week is "Thinking like a thin person" -(tm batters I think!)

I have noticed that I rarely leave anything on my plate. So I need to give myself less on the actual plate as I am obviously in the habit of finishing all of it. I think thin people stop when they're full , durr!

Would love to join in...what do you exclude from your diet as part of eating healthily?

And how much , if any, weight have people lost?

Hello, I'm in, have been SO crap over the last few weeks, but am in with a vengeance in the run up to Christmas. And I need you to be MEAN to me! Will start tomorrow (having wine tonight!).

Report
prufrock · 28/10/2007 19:28

WWW I am rejoining you in being an example. I am not going to drink any wine tonight as a good start (it won't count as alcohol if I put the half bottle of Pomerol that's left into a lamb stew for tomorrow night will it?)

I too have been feeling lethargic and just generally yuck, both physically and emotionally, and taking refuge in chocolate and wine is not helping. And it's really stupid, because I know I feel significantly better about everything when I am showing more control over my eating an exercise. So roll on the next 6 weeks

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2007 19:28

Union Jack, we don't really exclude anything. We just try to eat stuff that's good for us, generally.

TS, I will be MEAN, I promise, meanest of all to myself.

FIS, sadly, I am commuting to west London, the journey we talked about. I fear it will be an hour and 40 minimum . Taking a photo today for my season ticket was NOT a nice experience, hence renewed vigour on this thread!
I will consider a laptop at some point and thne I will be able to bollock you from the train! Imagine!

UJ, I have lost a pathetic 2 dress sizes since December. Shite, innit? But lots of people have lost a lot more, mainly through walking and giving up wine in the week wherever possible.

Personally, I want to be 2 sizes smaller and then I will be very happy (that still makes me curvy but not whale like!)

Hello Prufrock, marvellous! I think we all know we feel better as a result of doign this but it's SO easy to resort to wine and chocolate in times of stress, as I well know!

No wine for me tonight, they are all being saved for Friday night

aah poor you. I deeply sympathise. Actually, what's annoying is not being able to do it all in one go (iyswim). I'm guessing you have to change from train to tube or train to train to tube.

I am absolutely hating commuting but then again, I have always hated commuting so I suppose it's no surprise. I dream of jobs that I can stroll to in the morning.

The one good thing about oyster cards is that you don't need a photo .

I'm in (again) - I went to my exercise class in the park on friday and I'm still having difficulty walking (and it's Monday here now!). So despite my small trousers it just shows I'm really not that fit. I'm starting work towards a couple of OU courses as well so that should help with the no wine although it may put paid to my usual early nights.
WWW - the commute sounds crap, a laptop would be perfect! Prufrock good to see you back UnionJack foxinsocks and Shreddies - hello there.

I'm back!

So much for 10 years younger! I've had a cold and a cough whilst we were away, and a mild upset tum once I returned. (probably self-inflicted from pigging chocolate on Friday night ). I chose not to drink all week with being unwell, but didn't sleep well either.

Ate reasonably well on holiday, and did some walking each day. I even forewent a visit to the seal sanctuary in order to do a brisk walk around the town, lol. And they managed to get me climbing treehouses on Thursday, wonders never cease!

Did have a minor disaster, in that I took the minimum clothes with me, including a comfy pair of trousers - only they're now too baggy on my hips to be comfortable iykwim. I have quite slender hips in proportion to the rest of me, and that's where I lose weight first, compounded no doubt by all the exercise-biking I do, so need to do some different exercise, but I'm struggling with that concept at the moment.

I think I've lost another pound this week, so that's six altogether.

Two dress sizes down is good www.

Ah. A shiny new thread. Nice to see everybody back and going for it.

Thank you for the well-wishes for my cat. He is back home, all shorn and stitched and very cross about being kept in. I am having to give him 5 tablets a day and I'm rubbish at it (cue choking growling cat). I'm not sure who's most traumatised, me or the cat. Me I think.

WWW - good luck with the commuting. Is it today you start?

I've had a week of it - DP away on a drinking holiday fishing trip with the boys, sick DD, sick cat, evil new boss, no car, stupid early meetings in Timbuktoo that are too early for me to be able to drop DD off at childcare and oh just GRRRRRR at everything. But I haven't had a single drop of wine since DP got on the plane (unlike cirrhosis boy) and am glowing with virtue [gleam]. I have developed some alarming muscles but am not yet Elle MacPherson [double checks mirror and confirms suspicions and reminds self not to let hair dry naturally]

I've had to rearrange all of my bootcamps because DP is away so I think I've got 3 in a row later this week. Nice. A friend of mine got Evil Victoria (TM) on Sat and sent me a horrified text within 30 seconds of getting out of class.

Now, just for sobernow the BootCamp Metabolic Maths (Newcomers don't let this put you off, we're not all doing this! Its to show you how to calculate how your calorie needs so you don't slow down your metabolism by overdoing the dieting).

First you need the following (and a calculator lol):

Weight in Kg (2.2lb to the kg)
Height in cm
Age
Activity level where 1.2 is sloth, 1.375 is moderate 1-3 days per week, 1.55 is moderate 3-5 days per week, 1.725 is hard activity 5-6 days per week and 1.9 is hard daily exercise eg triathlon

Then the calculation is:

655+(9.6 x kg) + (1.8 x cm) - (4.7 x age)

This will give your Basal Metabolic Rate.

These are the basic calorific needs your body needs to maintain your weight. If you drop too far underneath this (for me around 25%) your body will go into starvation mode (don't forget this is the amount of calories your body needs just to function). Our program drops us by just 250 cals per day but increases our activity by 250 cals per day too - so 500 per day total.

To maintain our metabolism we are told to eat little and often and never to skip meals, especially not breakfast.

There's plenty more, but that's the gist. Apologies to everybody else. I am now officially a nutrition bore.

Arfishy, you do make me smile even when things are not going as well as they should. I've been a bit AWOL and didn't know about your cat, good to hear he is on the mend.
I have Evil Bossitis too so am mulling over taking up kick-boxing.
Nice to see some old faces, and welcome some new on here in the run up to LardChristmas We do surprisingly well on the happiness front here, for sure.
I am poised, litre of water to hand, Omron purring now it's back in proper usage, waiting for WWW to come and be mean to me too. And after her commute this morning she may well be able to flay cellulite off us all just by posting about her journey...are you nearly there yet WWW?
Hope your cold clears up soon unknown
Swedishmum, welcome back. I have potential family wedding from hell in the summer and am really, REALLY going to have to get my act together for that.

Hello! I'm still here, though not much bootcamping going on at the moment. I'm eating a bizarre morning sickness-led diet, some of it is fruit and some of which is Coca-Cola. Even at breakfast time.

Now the thread is back on my 'watched' list, I'll catch up with everyone properly later.

Hooray - the 'build-up' to Christmas thread. I love Christmas, so you will have to excuse me, although, inevitably, I over over-indulge and therefore must start compensating for it NOW!

WWW - how can you say going down 2 dress sizes is pathetic - that's a lot of inches and a big difference.

Arfishy - surely Elle McP has nothing on you. I'd love a few muscles to replace the wobbly bits and, as soon as my back is totally better, I shall dust off my free weights (promise!).

Putting my pedometer back into action has done wonders and I walked loads on a couple of days, including on a lovely autumnal Friday day in Kew Gardens. Food-wise has been crap, obviously (half-term and holiday) but I shall now try and think like a TM who manage to stay TP (eople) in holidays I'm sure. My targets this week are to have at least 3 days off drinking and to not lick my plate clean every time. And my spots are back this week but I think that is hormonal so I shall try to cut back on bread (which has helped in the past) and pop some more primrose oil.

My lightning revelation for today...

I was thinking about celebrities and how they are all so thin (not aspiring to that ), but I reckon part of it is they are never alone. If I'm with people I don't eat much at all. If I'm on my own it is a different story.

Worth waiting for wasn't it! But it does tell me that there are times in the day when I'm on my own and lonely and bored, and that's when I'm most likely to eat too much or to eat unhealthy stuff. So that's something I'm going to try and address - finding things to do in the afternoon (when ds2 is asleep and ds1 and dd are at school).

Loggin on has ust reminded me that I haven't drunk enough water - so after this post I am off to teh kitchen.

This morning didn't start as brilliantly as I had intended - dh woke me at 6:30 as requested, but instead of getting out of bed and going to teh gym I just dozed. Then I realised I wouldn't have time for the gym, so I thought I would get up in 2 minutes and just do some sun salutations. 15 minutes later I realsied I wouldn't be doing those either. But I did crawl out of bed in time to dry body brush, apply sunscreen, eat granola and walk the kids and dog to school. So not a totally bad start.

My personal trainer has started me boxing, and I love it. I still couldn't do a class though as I'm so uncoordinated I end up punching myslef, and I can't cope with coplicated routines or the embarrasment of getting them wrong. But it's a great workout, and fun, and de-stressing
