Hi Folks,
Our new Talk app is now live in the App Store. If you used the old app and didn't delete it then it should auto-update (depending on your settings) but otherwise you can download it from the app store.

This is a obviously a first live version - we plan to keep updating it, adding new features and addressing any user issues, so all feedback is most welcome.

Plus, we are planning to build an Android version too in the next few months - thanks for your patience re that Android users - we'll keep you updated on the progress and will be looking for Android testers in due course.

You know what I'm going to ask: Are Tech working on a Windows Phone version?

JustineMumsnet · 25/09/2015 12:17

I'm afraid no plans right now - Windows users just 1.39% of our current audience and building apps is mighty expensive. Sorry!

And android. Second class citizens we are Wink

LovelyFriend · 25/09/2015 12:24

well done MN - I've been testing the new AP for a while now and it is a vast improvement on the old one.

RainbowFlutterby · 25/09/2015 12:30

I'm going to stick with the mobile site thanks all the same. I tested the app, but for as long as I can't hide completely irrelevant "stickied" threads I'm not going to bother.

Never mind. I'm sure you won't lose any sleep over it.

It's all about pleasing as many of the people as we can - Android users 24%. But it will come, I promise!

Have you put line in between the posts inside a thread? If not. I won't be using it. It's too uncomfortable to read. I mentioned this as a beta tester.

ophiotaurus · 25/09/2015 12:40

It's ok I've downloaded it and I can see there isn't a line to differentiate between the posts. It all merges into one for me. So I won't be using it. Which is a shame.
Will stick to mobile site.

ophiotaurus · 25/09/2015 12:42

It's also difficult to scroll through looking for OP as only the name is highlighted a different colour, not the whole post.
App is not for me. Sorry.

poorbuthappy · 25/09/2015 12:44

Ooooo its different! Do think you've done wrong by not separating the posts out and only highlighting the names...but I hated the mobile site so I guess I'll cope!

Gruach · 25/09/2015 13:05

Using it now.

I don't wish to seem ungrateful but I can't scroll through previous posts while I'm writing a reply.Shock

Would never work for an Archers thread ...

Luckily I'm very fond of the mobile site.

PuppyMonkey · 25/09/2015 13:21

This is my first post on it - HmmConfusedBlushAngrySadEnvyBiscuitWineBrewThanksSmileGrinWinkShock

Oh look what I can do. Hooray.

ok, am posting from it now.

The first and for me most important at this stage piece of feedback is that it appears to work well with voiceover, so well done to the developers for achieving that from the outset without the need for me to complain. ;)

it's going to take me some time to get used to the idea of selecting emoticons rather than typing them in manually, so the jury's still out on whether I'll stick with this or the mobile site. I suspect it may end up being a combination of both. :D.

Sad
LoveChickens · 25/09/2015 13:34

Mobile site is still the best!

Hello wannaBe, we spent some time working on the accessibility options including voiceover and dynamic type and we're really pleased it's helped you.

You can still type the emoticons out if you prefer (like this without the spaces) [ smile ] and the app will post as an emoticon.

We're updating a page of FAQs based on questions raised here so keep 'em coming! Thank you

SonnyNoChance · 25/09/2015 14:13

I like it GrinI think it looks fancy.

FelixFelix · 25/09/2015 14:13

Hooray for the new app! I've been testing it and it's great. I always used the old app and never used the mobile site, and I found it hard to use after being used to an app this whole time. I'm very pleased Smile

Peaceloveandjammydodgers · 25/09/2015 14:14

I've been testing it but desperately miss the advanced search function of the old app.

Gruach · 25/09/2015 14:23

I'm a little puzzled about the invisibility of a PM option.

RozTheSchnoz · 25/09/2015 14:57

Yay - it's back - and looking great! Just spotted it updated in my phone. I personally didn't really like the mobile site so haven't been on very much recently... Am sure this will have me visiting much more often Smile

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 25/09/2015 15:04

Sorry but its a big fat no from me, I can't make the text big enough to see.

PLEASE can you address accessibility issues? I have blathered on about this before several times and am just ignored. Not everyone has perfect sight and those who haven't need customisable text size and contrast.

JessicaMumsnet · 25/09/2015 15:12

Peaceloveandjammydodgers and Gruach yy we agree a search option would be useful and we're thinking about messaging too. We're keen to get a first version out there into people's hands and then update regularly with new features. Some functions are harder to build than others though so it will take us a bit of time to get there.
In the meantime we are interested in what you think we should prioritise - no promises but we'd love your thoughts! Thanks
