has it always been there? or has it moved? and does that mean if someone 'likes' that thread it will be posted to their fb page?

it is just below the thread title in an ominously obvious place.

Yes, it does, CarolCervix. All a bit modern, innit?

You don't have to click it if you don't want to, you know Xmas Smile

I dare someone to press it and come back and tell us what happened to them.

Thankfully I can't see a like button.

I thought we all established we don't want one?

I accidentally clicked one yesterday. Was swiftly deleted from my FB page and cursed appropriately. WHY does every damn article and now thread have a like button? I don't want everyone to know what I'm wasting time doing reading.

Facebook is the devil.

They said so on the telly.

True fact.

so if i do a good long post ranting about my orrible family and someone 'likes' that post it pops up on FB in all its glory for the whole fb world to see?

and therefore makes it even more easier for the worls to work out who i am and even more identifiable?

No, it doesn't like any posts. It's just for liking the thread.

As in "this is a good thread"

It was! It was on a competition page, I entered and accidentally clicked the like button. Well, it was some kind of like button, even if it was teeny. I know noone will know who you are, but god, the potential for fallout if you press it accidentally and don't realise is pretty big. Luckily it was just a Ford competition, I realised my stupidity and deleted the link from my wall. But imagine liking a thread about bumsex something mortifying, or personal, or someone else's private thread, and the whole world seeing it. Are there areas where there is no like button so this can;t happen? I'm thinking relationships and bereavement.

Horrible idea I agree

Actually, I think Cevix is right. If it likes the thread then a link to the thread will be on FB for whoever liked it's FB list to see.

So it does make a person even more searchable than they are just through Google.

But, of course, that person who liked it must have a friend on their FB list who knows Cervix in order for make Cervix known.

Really, must MN follow all the crowds? I like FB but I don't feel the need to like a MN thread to put it on FB.

Aha! Yes, there are like buttons on Comps pages, I believe.

But the Talk threads like button was only made live a few minutes ago.

And no, there's no like button on threads in 'sensitive' topics, like Bereavement or Relationships and so on.

I thought we all agreed a few weeks ago that we hated the idea of a 'like' button - so why gave MNHQ gone ahead anyway?

Report
fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 15/12/2011 16:59

Incidentally, the more people click the 'like' link of the comp pages, the more people will enter presumably, hence the less chance I you will win. Just saying Wink Don't click that like button folks.

Why is there a like button anywhere? Why why why?!?!
