Hello ladies,
as per suggestion in respect to the owner of the previous thread I’ve created a new (continued) thread for us.

Thanks @Xur - correct decision I think.

Xur · 22/02/2024 21:25

@Lillers how’s your nausea today?

OP posts:
Lillers · 22/02/2024 21:32

@Xur I was ok this morning, then I passed out at my booking appointment, slept for most of the afternoon and then was sick this evening, so overall not wonderful. I do feel like it’s turning a corner though because I’ve been able to drink more today.

cd24x · 22/02/2024 21:35

Thanks @Xur definitely the right call.

@Lillers hope you're feeling better now after your appt this morning

MadsAngel · 22/02/2024 21:45

Thanks @Xur defo the right choice. My heart breaks for her😓

Emmaev · 22/02/2024 21:48

Definitely the right thing to do @Xur

Hope you’re feeling better @Lillers

MrsM89 · 22/02/2024 22:01

@Xur thank you lovely. Think we are all feeling for her tonight. Such a hard journey.

Hope everyone is doing okay. Xx

californiacooper · 22/02/2024 22:03

Oh bugger I just left my big daily reply to everyone on the last thread. 😫😫😫😨😨😨

MudandMoet · 22/02/2024 22:06

Thanks @Xur

I cried buckets reading MrsB's post and all the thoughtful people that wrote their respects. I've had to bow out of previous threads and that anger and hurt of how unfair it is came flooding back on her behalf.

Did anyone have the flu jab offered at the 12 week scan? I did as they have had a massive influx of cases at my local hospital and they said it would protect baby when delivered for at least a few months. Also we get the whooping cough vaccine if we want at the 20 week scan now it's becoming more common. Will anyone have it?

californiacooper · 22/02/2024 22:12

@MudandMoet I've never had the flu vaccine (and have been advised it as I work in healthcare) so not sure what I'll do here. (I'm 💯 not an anti-vaxxer in any way but I've just not felt like it was necessary for me to have, and after nearly 2 decades working with patients I've had flu once.
I think that i might skip the flu vaccine because I'm going to be heavily pregnant in the middle of summer, it's not "flu season" so to speak.
No idea about whooping cough apart from my mum tells me I had it as a baby and was quite poorly, good old 80's!

Xur · 22/02/2024 22:12

@MudandMoet I think I will get the whooping cough vaccine, however I will not be getting the flu jab. Flu doesn’t stick in me (knock on wood). I had it once when I was 13, it was horrible I had temperature 42 degrees, but that was the first and the last time I had flu.

They did give me a handout, like a whole page about the following scan (20 week anomaly scan) and what to expect in that. But neither of the ladies mentioned the jabs in the appt, I only read about them on a booklet. Even my midwife didn’t mention jabs.

How did your scan go?

OP posts:
Starlight11111 · 22/02/2024 22:16

Thanks @Xur and also your scan photo was just gorgeous!

MudandMoet · 22/02/2024 22:18

@californiacooper I said no initially when she asked for the same reasons as you but then she popped me in with the vaccine lady to talk through it. She didn't push it but convinced me when she said baby gets immunity from it and if you get flu when you're pregnant it can be serious as your lungs are already squashed and not working to full capacity as there's baby and placenta pushing on them now. No side effects so far x

HolyMoly24 · 22/02/2024 22:20

@MudandMoet I get the flu jab anyway due to having asthma. I had flu when I was pregnant with my DD and it still wiped me out and I was bed ridden for a couple of days despite having had the jab. However it was nothing compared to my parents who were not vaccinated and also had the flu, they were so ill for weeks. My dad's voice has never fully recovered from it. I can't imagine being that ill on top of being pregnant, I was so glad that I was vaccinated at the time.

I'll more than likely get the whooping cough when offered too tbh. My mid wife mentioned another Covid jab which I'm not 100% sure about and will likely decline.

rupertbear91 · 22/02/2024 22:22

Thanks for making a new thread, heart breaking to loose a member of the group at this stage.

I have been offered the flu jab repeatedly since chrismas but I have felt so horrendous I'm scared to add any more strain to my body with a vaccine when I can hardly get out of bad as it is!

CCmumsnet · 22/02/2024 22:23

Just adding the post from @californiacooper to you all....
Sorry if I'm not keeping up just following up on earlier messages:
@Decaffe @HolyMoly24 OMG maybe... I struggled to collect the sample (which surprised me as I've been happily peeing in a shampoo bottle lid daily at home for the past month)... so I might have gone a bit close 🤣 I'll do another sample tomorrow and see if it's the same.

@Xur wow what a fab picture! Your little one is perfect! 😍 yeah I'm drinking a lot, I think a bit more than normal. It only mentioned leukocytes not the others, but is positive for bacteria too. Gross. Why do they put all the bits next to each other 🤣

@Lillers I can't exactly compare however when we were abroad for IVF in December, we both had to have blood tests on the first day. (I obviously then had to have almost daily blood tests and stabby stabby needles)... DH fainted when he gave his tiny blood sample and had to be laid down with a cool compress and be given biscuits. I was mortified 🤣🤣 a fertility clinic where women are being prodded daily. The nurses were laughing.

Cat2022 · 22/02/2024 22:32

@MudandMoet the whooping cough vaccine doesn’t actually provide anything for us it’s all for baby to help before their own first vaccine at 8 weeks.

Last time I had to get both flu and covid booster so I’m glad not to have both this time and don’t think I’m being offered flu which is fine due to the season.

californiacooper · 22/02/2024 22:35

(I asked MN to move my post over, what a helpful bunch)

Cinai · 22/02/2024 22:48

Marking my place in the new thread

fleur89 · 22/02/2024 23:02

I got the flu vaccine last October so am protected this season. I suffered a missed miscarriage which stopped developing exactly when I fell sick with extremely bad flu around a year ago and my doctors said it may have been the cause. This stuck with me,

Also my sister caught the flu at 36 weeks pregnant and it was the worst sickness she said she had ever experienced in her entire life. She never normally catches the flu. In pregnancy we are immunocompromised, hence why it's being offered.

fleur89 · 22/02/2024 23:04

Just to note that I have not fallen sick a single time this winter since getting the vaccine, compared to last year where I was constantly sick and hadn't had the jab this is amazing.

I'll also be getting whooping cough vaccine, per when pregnant with my daughter.

MudandMoet · 22/02/2024 23:14

Okay thanks for the updates ladies. I'll be getting the whooping cough one definitely now at 20 weeks. We're not a poorly couple as a rule and I can't remember the last time we had colds or were poorly but I'll take anything I can get for baby. I am on the fence about a Covid jab while pregnant though (had the first three previously)

Kate543 · 23/02/2024 01:58

I had the flu vaccine at my 20 week, I work in a nursery so constantly in contact with all manner of wonderful germs 😂 I don’t think I was offered whooping cough again because I had it in my last pregnancy. I also had covid jabs in my last pregnancy but it was back when it seemed more compulsory so 🤷‍♀️

is anyone else really struggling? I am feeling so rotten this week with sickness and not sleeping well, I am being very emotional and feel sorry for my poor husband 😬 on the upside my daughter has suddenly become very interested in her baby dolly and giving her kisses so that bodes well 😃

HRP1990 · 23/02/2024 06:35

I’m literally never ill, even in labour with my daughter I had covid (great timing lol) she was fine and never caught it. I hardly felt I had any symptoms apart from a deep cough. Regardless though I will have whatever vaccine’s I need to protect the baby, just to be safe!

HRP1990 · 23/02/2024 06:35

Hope your scan went well yesterday @MudandMoet 🫶🏼
