ZOMBIE THREAD ALERT: This thread hasn't been posted on for a while.
February 2011- the one where life gets better for all of us.(1000 Posts)
New thread open for business!!
I am anticipating MUCH weight loss, job improvements, sleeping babies, good health and one very eagerly anticipated BFP.
americanexpat and RobinSparkles Hope respective ears are on the mend xx
ledkr Hope your racing days are successful, would have passed on any tips but am afraid my
fil bookie is on holiday - pils are living it up on the Algarve
blizy that's shite about mindee moving on, fingers crossed it works out.
reastie and MizK I don't think we bother with 2 year old checks, I can't remember doing them with the other 2. God I hope not - Anna has several favourite activities at the minute - blowing raspberries and asking has everyone done a poo?are the ones I experience the most
Bank holiday weekend here - yippee, Mr W working all weekend, so me and the girls are just faffing about hoping the weather stays dry.
Hi ladies...quick question re:2 yr old check ups-do we need to make the appt or do the hv's call/send letter out for the appt?
All ok here...5 months gone already...& found out we have a pink one on the way this time, so will be on here asking lots of questions about how to deal with girly tantrums/issues etc
Been feeling fine tho weirdly was throwing up between 8 & 12 noon yesterday morning...had to come home from work. Thought it was a bug but now thinking it might be pg sickness...never had it before bit if that's what it was then it can feck right off. Feel better today tho.
Hope ledkr is successful at the races. mizk sorry to hear about relationship woes. ponyo forgot to say previously but sorry to hear of your recent bereavement..been a really tough year for you & your family. And same to you too reastie-meant to ask, does your dh do his gardening work in Bromley-could've sworn that the gardener at a property next door today was the spit of your hubby, from the pics I've seen ? blizy hope you get another mindee soon..would defo use you if I was up in your neck of the woods..
blizy - good luck finding a new mindee or another position. Is this the one whose mum is pregnant?
MizK and reastie - HV are so focused on centiles but remember they're just averages. If they're eating healthy food and getting enough exercise, what can you do? Tho MizK the thought of hauling around 16.5kg is making my arm ache!
Back at the doctor today for my ear, it's now been diagnosed as a middle ear infection and has spread to my other ear. I have almost no hearing in my left ear at the moment because it's so blocked. They've given me some antibiotic drops and numbing drops - the hydrocodone just made me horribly ill. So I'm sat at work, my ears full of drops and stuffed with cotton wool
glad I have my own office. Anyway, still in loads of pain and facing another night without sleep.
Congrats on the little girl granny I had to have three tries before I got mine
Got lucky at the races won about 100 from two 2 pound bets but probably spent nearly that on bets meals entrance and drinks so two free days out really. I love winning. Both my horses were outsiders and complete guesswork.
Yesterday was spoiled at the end by me being sexually harassed in the chippy. I was unusually upset and quite frightened. Was scared to walk to my bus then absolutely fuming after. I'd normally have gone mental but they were so threatening the bastards.
Today was lovely just me and dh but we find it so hard these days to stay out late as we are so tired.
Git back at 8 and d was sat up on dils lap and is now dancing with Ella cis me and dh are too tired to move.
No genius here but today she switched on the tv then looked around before saying " where's power?" Which is our family name for the remote control
Granny congrats on the pink one. I just spoke to DH and he was working in Bromley yesterday, so it may well have been him you saw!!!! If he looked miserable and cross in his expression then I'd say definitely him . If you need some gardening done he has a couple of free spaces he needs to fill
Ledkr that harassment sounds really scary - what happened?
american my sympathies re: ear infection - they are awful.
Granny huge congratulations on your little girl! Have you got a name for her yet? What lovely news
Ledkr, absolutely fuming for you! How dare they - bastards!
American that sounds really painful! Poor you, there's nothing worse than ear pain. Hope you feel better soon.
Mines not sore btw, it's just, erm, leaky (eww).
Meant to say - for DD1 the nursery nurse did ours. She was the one who ran all of the baby groups and did the weighing sessions. I knew her quite well with DD1 because I went to all of her groups but I haven't been to any of her groups with L. L won't talk to strangers either so I'm a bit worried about her trying to get words out of L, whereas Isabel would talk to anyone!
Granny, congrats on the girl.
ledkr, I'm sorry you were harassed and made to feel so unsafe. It's horrible.
I'm still getting by, pain meds every 3-4 hrs but it hurts to do anything including eating and I can't hear anything. Robin, get yourself sorted, I would not wish this on my worst enemy!
Thread in aibu if you want the full story!
Omfg ledkr...that is horrific, as are some of the other stories in there...complete & utter wankers! I'm quite angry reading that thread...
Geezo..I'm already fretting about having a girl...god help anyone who tries any of that with my daughter (or even my son...woe betide him if he ever spoke to a girl/woman like that...his head would be well & truly off his shoulders!!)..the scary Glasgow side will be well & truly unleashed!!
Thanks granny. I'm a feisty old bird as you know but I was fairly shaken up. As for my dds dh and I are resigned to being those parents who just drive them everywhere. Ella is so beautifull too and is going to have an amazing figure I can't bear to think of the teen yrs
Ledkr, I'm so sorry you were made to feel like that. I would chop their balls off!
Granny, yay to a pink one! I can't believe that you are 5 months gone already.
I hope the ear infections clear up,soon.
ledkr I read your original thread - fucking pricks.
Grannyapple very exciting news , when is your due date?
Hope all ear pain is improving x
Well, bank holiday = shite weather still rings true. S ended up going out with my sister and getting her "extras" [eyeroll] for her First Communion. She tried everything on at my Mums - her and my Nana cried Yes, it was a bit like a scene from the Godfather
On a much less controversial note I bought Sofia her first denim jacket yesterday - she is actually in love with it. She wanted to hang it beside her bed tonight - dramatic much
Ledkr, how shit that your lovely day was interrupted by those bastards! Well done on the wins though.
Granny, yah for a girl!! A pink one!! Hope your feeling ok after being sick.
MizK,hope your ok re relationship issues. To be honest I go through phases with dh where I want to leave him etc, but the feeling always goes away. I hope it does for you. I think alot of women are so independent and in control now that we truly don't need men, we may love and want our husbands and partners but the need isn't there. Please come on and chat if you need to.
Re two year checks, I thought some LA's stopped them. I'm pretty sure ours have.
Things with my mum are a bit better. She text me asking if we could still go for our meal so we rearranged but now she hasn't got any money so we've cancelled again. Now she wants to call me Weds evening for a chat, completely our of character. I feel quite uncomfortable though and almost don't want to speak to her, and want to keep my distance, but I guess as she's making the effort I should too.
Dh and I went to Go Ape in Forest of Dean yesterday. I wouldn't exactly say it was fun but the zip wires were pretty cool!! I did cry with fear at one point though. Kinda stupid to go climbing ladders into trees when your scared of heights!!
Hope your all ok x
ledkr I saw your thread too, really depressing and definitely scary for you. Idiots. Hope you're ok.
emski at you going tree climbing with fear of heights (sorry!) Hm, glad things are better with your mum but if you feel uncomfortable its probably for a reason iykwim. Hope it goes well whatever you decide to do.
granny massive congrats, how lovely. One of my best mates is pg and finding out what shes having this week, exciting!
wiggles at your girls and 'godfather' comment made me chuckle.
Mizk I am at cheeky hv, some of them are so bloody clueless. Hope you're ok about you and dp, no advice either just hope you're alright. I am trying to make an effort with dp and he is too (I think )
dp was busy all weekend so my mum came to stay, was actually really nice except for when she pretended to be a monster and made A jump and cry real tears
A has also started describing (random) things as "very gorgeous" that is definitely a phrase she got from nursery, not me!
Quick poll time - how many 2 year olds are in their own bed? We are thinking about moving A in the easter hols, have seen this from ikea but don't want to disturb the relatively good sleep we're having at the moment (still early wakings though )
That's a bit like ds eventual bed ponyo still in a cot here too and getting quite good sleep apart from last night when she just couldn't settle so was in our bed while we tried to sleep as she sang Taylor Swift. "Foooouund me fooound me e e e e e
Me and dh were too tired to laugh.
Been a right moaner today. I got out painting and sticking but at one point was just sat on the sofa while she repeatedly hit me.
A friend popped in but I couldn't talk as d kept grabbing my face and saying mama.
Still dry here but happy to wee in nappy if we go out. If she needs a pooh she asks for a "bappy" to be put on then goes off for a quiet crap lol.
Bappy I lost A earlier, she was leaning against the back door with her hands on it, also doing a quiet crap she then said in a sad voice " done poo mummy" just as I'd dished mine and dp's tea up
Thanks for the congrats ladies...due 29th July. Feel mahoosive already so feck knows what I'll be like come end of June.. But this girl is defo letting me know she means business....been feeling sick everytime I'm hungry...
Re big bed...not sure whether to move ds into big bed before baby arrives or after....not sure I could cope with 2 lots of non sleeping children tbh so think we might do it before dd arrives...
N likes sitting in his potty doing a wee before bathtime....that's as far as we've got with potty training...
wiggles - your family sounds amazing.
Emski - agree with Ponyo to trust your instincts, don't feel you have to just because she wants to.
L is still in a cot, seems happy enough so no plans to move him yet. He's going through a phase of separation anxiety though. A few times over the last week he hasn't settled at night, won't settle regardless of trying to rock him. But if I lie on the floor next to his cot, he lies down immediately, asks for help with his blanket and goes straight to sleep. He's also been delaying at bedtime, saying he's hungry so I bring him out for a snack then straight back to bed (where he usually settles). DH is getting frustrated and wants to leave him to cry - which has never ever worked with him. He sleeps well 95% of the time and when he doesn't, there's generally a reason. So leaving him to cry isn't going to help.
I think I've finally turned a corner with my ears, hopefully I'll be off the pain meds after tomorrow
and finally sleeping through the night again. I take back everything horrible I said about hydrocodone though, it's a miracle drug during the night. I think the pain was worse than labour though, seriously horrible. I think I would've gone at A&E at 2am if it hadn't been for the hydrocodone.
Up and at it today as dh up early for work so I've been up since 5.15, showered, make up on. Was hoping for quiet half hour but Bens up and being annoying, has woken Noah up who has been told its still nighttime and put back to bed!
Ladies, my instincts tell me to back further away from my mum and not Seeger again. I hate being around her and come away feeling vile. Things happened when I was a child that I won't go into here, but since I've had Noah they've come up again through the therapy I had and I'm finding it hard to deal with her. Oh shit, and now I'm tearing up with Ben sat on the sofa next to me,
Ems just go with what feels right for you. If you feel happier with some distance maybe that's the best thing for you to do. It feels a bit like everything is on your Mums terms at the minute, which really isn't fair on you.
American really glad the ears are improving. How are you finding the job btw?
Ponyo Alice has been in her own big bed for yonks (we were desperate as she hated being trapped in her cot) and the transition was easier than we expected, maybe a couple of more interrupted nights than usual but it settled down quite quickly. Tbh we find it so much easier - when we go on holiday we don't have to worry about a cot/travel cot, we get in the bed with her if she wakes up in the night and she usually goes straight off to sleep with us in the bed with her, she gets out of bed herself and comes in to my room in the morning and we then lie in bed having a snuggle and watching cbeebies before we get up. But then she never liked the cot or got on with it so we didn't have to problem of worrying about disrupting a good routine.
Alice went to the gym creche yesterday - 3rd time now. First time she went off without looking back for me but cried when I came back. Second time she was a bit wobbly lipped when I went but was OK, apparently was very clingy whilst I wasn't there and cried massively when I collected her. Yesterday she screamed when I dropped her off and apparently was upset when I wasn't there and cried alot when other mothers came to drop off/pick up their children as she thought it was me and then when I picked her up she was screaming again and was all snotty nosed where she must've been crying alot. I leave her for 45 minutes. I ask her if she has had a good time and she says yes
but she often says yes even when it's no I ask her if she wants to go to the creche and she says yes. Is this normal those with nursery etc experience? Should I just keep at it even though her crying is getting worse or should I give up? Should I take her more often than once a week? I really don't know what to do as I feel so awful that she didn't really enjoy it
emski xxxxxxxxxxxxx and a big hug x
Ponyo Annas been in A normal low single since she was about 1. I've seen the bed you've linked to and its lovely.
grannyapple There's 2 years 4 months between S and O which is roundabout the same as your two. I had S in a bed before O was born. It worked out really well.
In fact we are in the middle of changing all the bedrooms about again! Anna is going to share with Olivia and Sofia is moving into Anna's room. It took 3 weeks to get everyone in agreement . Note to everyone else - never let your children have ANY say in paint colours. Olivia is shall we say eclectic in her choices - we compromised on green!
american my family is indeed great as long as they have alcohol, cigarettes at hand and try and remember who they are not talking to in their own family!
Glad ear is improving - for me ear and toothache trump labour pain apart from Sofias labour
Ps We are nearly out of thread
Emski (((hugs))). Has she been in touch since her tantrum about Mother's Day? I hope you're feeling ok.
Re beds. My DDs share a bunk bed and L is on the bottom bunk. I was a bit dubious at first as we tried moving her before but she mustn't have been ready. We took the sides of her cot off her cotbed first, so that she could get used to not being enclosed, then after a few nights of that being a success we moved her into the bed. She's been fine and there's so much more room in their bedroom now!
Ponyo I like the look of that little bed.
American glad that you've turned a corner with the pain. Sounded horrendous!!
Wiggles at S and her new denim jacket.
L is obsessed with shoes ATM. She wants them on all the time, even when we're staying at home and she throws a tantrum when I say no and carries on until I give in and just let her wear them. She follows me around sobbing "shoes oooon!"
Night from hell again I think she's teething. I slept I. A out four inches if bed
I have mega sore throat but going to work for a break.
american dh's answer to everything is to leave her to cry. It pisses me off because she has slept well for months now so obviously something is wrong grrr. Annoyed me cos I had to get up but I have work and he doesn't .
reastie they do normally settle after a bit at places like that. Maybe this week was a one off is she under the weather?
D went to a friends the other day didn't bat and eyelid but when I went back took up a century post by the door in case I left her again.
Wiggles their bedroom needs decorating. I asked Isabel what colour she wanted and she said dark pink! I said on your bike. I don't mind pink but it would have to be pale (it's quite a small room) and probably not on every wall, otherwise it would look like a bubble gum factory exploded in there!
