When organising a Mumsnet meet up you should take the same basic precautions you would when meeting anyone from the internet - make sure you meet in a public place and that others know where you are going. You can also meet up with other mums on your Mumsnet Local page. Find your Local page here.

I am moving to Wroughton next month and am trying to find out what goes on when and where for little ones. I have two sons, one just over 2.5 years and the other is 2 months old.
I am interested in activities to do with either boys during term time. I am also interested in postnatal exercise and meeting other mums in the area.
Hi there,
I am not in Wroughton but W. Swindon.
We just did a big move here and I found the best way to find out things for activities was either check the library out.
Apparently Health Visitors should be able to help as well for things to do, though I don't know mine here, so opted for pick on random parents with children similar age to ask them what they did to meet other parents
It paid off for me.
I have a 3 yr old. I can CAT you if you would like. Will you have moved far? Sorry not to be more help!
Hi Journey2, we are moving from Slough so it is about 60 miles west. I am originally from Reading which is in the middle. My DH has been working in Wroughton for four years now, but we are getting relocation now which is good as it is a much nicer area (I hope!) to live in.
Did you move far?
That sounds like good advice, I will pop into the library and see what info they have. My head is all over the place at the moment with the move as we have a newborn and a toddler to contend with as well as trying to sell our house - how do you do that with a toddler?!
I live in Swindon and have a 9 mth ds. We do mimimusicians every week which is lovely, and I also go to a post natal exercise class on Monday mornings which is great, really recommend it.
My mum was born in wroughton, where abouts will you be?
You can both email me if you want at ebhardwaj@lycos.co.uk
Once you've moved Locks, maybe we can all meet up for coffee.
Hi Journey2 you finally moved then?
I defintely need the postnatal classes - can babies come too? DS will be at nursery Monday mornings.
We are moving onto the new housing development Alexandra Park - I think it use to be the RAF hospital.
A meet up once I have moved would be great
Hello Locks, I have just moved to Abbey Meads in Swindon when DS was 4 days old (gulp!) I was put in touch with "Childrens Information Service" by my Midwife if you call them on 01793 541786 and ask them to send you details on all of the clubs in Wroughton hopefully you will be as impressed as I was with the information that was sent through the next day to me.
Good luck with the move, would be nice to meet some other Mumsnetters in the flesh one day, I'm always wondering at Tesco's how many other of us are out there in Swindon and try to spot them shopping....I need to get a hobby
Locks the post natal exercise class is fantastic. It's only a 6 week course (but they repeat it every 6 weeks - iuswim) but it's great, we've done something different each week (step, aerobics, circuit training, rec checks, body conditioning etc) and I'm really beginning to feel the benefit. Yes you can bring your baby wiith you, they either stay in car seats or you can bring a playmat for them to lie on and they watch you!
You don't have to join the gym, just pay for the course. If your really interested I'll do a link to the website and you can email sandy who runs the company (it's called the having a baby company!)for details (she's a mumsnetter too!). I'm coming to the end of my 6 weeks, but I'm going to choose the activity I liked best and do a class every week in that.
Will definitly have to meet up when you are settled. Yes I know the old raf hospital - we used to go mushroom picking in the fields up there!
Hello Mummyplonk. How olds your ds now? Moving when he was 4 days?!!!! Did you ever recover?!
Where abouts do you live? I'm in Rodbourne Cheney, will keep an eye out for you in tescos!
ooh those Postnatal classes sound great, I'm definately up for that as well, where are they held?
DS is 4 weeks old today and it already seems like an eternity away when I gave birth (a very bad thing as got broody last time way too early)....which leads me onto my other DS who is 13 months. I need to get a master plan together to try to attend a Mother and Baby club without having to leave DS1 in the car outside (joke! (I promise no need to alert Mumsnet Patrol)]
Have actually been having Tesco's deliver since having the baby so my favourite hobby has now actually been made redundant for a bit.
However, there is a huuuuge Asda Walmart & Next nearby that are always worth a nosey.
Hello
I live near Marlborough which is quite near Wroughton. But I don't know anything about what rocks for kids in Wroughton.
but helloooo anyway.
I am involved in NCT and we do great Nearly New Sales in Marlborough - next is 1 October at the Leisure Centre, Marlborough- great for kids clothes.
Can't think of anything else useful to tell you though.
Oh actually there is a sweet little play centre called Bonkers just outside Wroughton it is tacked onto a craft centre
Also I went to senior school in Wroughton and I know where all the best places for skiving off and smoking are too
Mummyplonk - I guess you live in Abbeymeads then! The exercise classes are held in canons gym over at Greenbridge next to the cinema.
Hello flum, you went to Ridgeway then!
There is also the Mother and Baby clinic which is held at the sports centre by Morrisons in Thames Avenue. It's on wednesdays. From 1-2pm for Mums and babies to meet up (babies under 6/7months - you get asked to leave once your baby becomes mobile)and then from 2-3.30pm you can take your lo (any age) to be weighed or see the health visitor - it's a drop in so you don't need an appt.
Once everyones settled we should all meet up
I did Panicpants (great name) under the great Mr Axen. It faired me well I am highly educated and well read - har har
What a great response
It seems I won't be lonely after the move.
I need to change my NCT branch, but am not sure which one will be nearest to me. I sent the Children's Information Service an email, but perhaps I need to give them a call.
That sounds fab if I can go to an exercise class with DS2 - I am really feeling unfit at the moment as I haven't been to a class since I was 38wks pg and was doing Pilates and Yoga.
I can't believe with moving with a 3 month old, but a 4 day baby must have been stressful - I couldn't physically move because of my stitches then. This has all happened really quickly and it is still a bit of a blur, but I am hoping our quality of life will improve being in more rural area (we currently live on the edge of Slough Trading Estate made famous by a certain comedy starring Ricky Gervais).
Hi Locks - Glad you got some responses to help.
We moved back from a stint in Asia, so not a quick move back really
Panic Pants - yes, finally moved back, 6 weeks into things and our 3 yr old is finally beginning to accept things, i.e we really do live in England!
Take care
Journey2 can't believe you've been here for 6 weeks already. How was the move? And how have you settled in?
Locks - the area where you are moving to is absolutely gorgeous. Wroughton itself is nothing to write home about but up on the hill where you are going is right on the edge of the Marlborough downs and really uplifting.
As soon as you can go for a walk along the Ridgeway on Hackpen hill its beeeeeoooootiful. Also drive up to Avebury for a chill with the stones and the sheep that is nice. Also lots of walks along Kennet and Avon Canal. You WILL love it!!
Also go to Marlborough on Weds or Sat as good market and it is a nice little town with great (but pricey) boutiques etc.
DH works in swindon sometimes and we spend a fair bit of time there- currently renting in wroughton, looking to buy somewhere, but I am very picky! There is an asquith court nursery near the Ridgeway comprehensive school, which was great for my dt's - very welcoming and a good site. There is a mother and toddler session at the softplay centre inside the Churchill pub on the way to Wotton Basset, which I used. hth
Hi Locks, welcome to Swindon! I had no idea that so many other mumsnettrs were from Swindon.
There is plenty to do here and loads of groups to go to. Good soft play areas in Swindon and we used to go to a great music class.
We live in West Swindon, so im not sure what there is in Wroughton but Old Town will be near to you and im sure that there will be groups held there.
Let us know when you have moved and we could meet up.
Hi there, another Swindon mum here. There are loads of play areas here, loads of mothers and baby groups, loads of parks etc so you won't be bored.
I live more central Swindon (near the lawn woods) so don't know much about what Wroughton has to offer, but sure they have a play group etc.
Flum, I know loads of people who went to Ridgeway - can I ask how old you are (so if being too nosy).. just wanted to see if you knew anyone I know (if you know what I mean).
I would def be interested in a met up sometime, I have a DD 2.5.
I help run (only just become vice chair)a mother and parent group in Upham Road if you are stuck for a group. although I am sure that there will be one in Wroughton... (just thought I would plug ours)... called Tiddlywinks.
Hi milge, jamese and biscuitdunker, wow there's quite a few of us. We should have a meet up. My ds is 9months.
What do you think about a Swindon/local area meet up?
Jamese - I am 33 !! youch. I grew up in Lawn actually we lived in the v. classy plastic houses with pretend pillars near the golf course - expect u will know which I mean.... went to Lawn juniors too!!
Hi Flum, so you lived in BM then.... We almost moved there when I was little. but had extension to house instead and stayed put.
Did you live in BM when you went to Ridgeway? didn't fancy Churchfields then????
Not sure I know anyone that age. but do know the PE teacher, D.B (initials) not sure what the rules are about posting about people we know???
Actually I think I know a few people that age. nicknames Stumpy, Wooller, Nelly, and Youngy do you know them? I played hockey with them all.
I'm 38 by the way so a little bit older.... (well maybe not that little)...
Panic Pants, a meet up sound good.
