We filled up the last thread and we still have 3 weeks to go until the next official BC so here is our new inbetween BC thread.

Link to previous thread

So, I was good yesterday and now all of my confessions are lost on the previous thread Grin but I am going to carry on with daily weighing and food recording so this morning I weighed 225 lbs.

Morning. Yesterday's food:
BPC
Celery with pate (1.5)
Hm pork/ beef meatballs over roasted big mushroom, left over aubergine stack thingy.
2 x babybel
Crispy pepperoni

HolgerDanske · 23/04/2015 08:21

Hi everyone, mostly lurk on these threads but following on from previous thread, have a tip for peeling shallots:

Top and tail, cut in half lengthways, peel off first layer of shallot along with outer peel. Easy peasy Smile

Ok so there's a tiny bit of wastage but it saves so much time and effort.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 23/04/2015 08:25

Start of week 4 stall here. I know they are common but so frustrating. Lost first 35lbs so straightforwardly so don't think I'm doing anything wrong. Dropping dairy for a while but don't want to do that for too long.
Any suggestions?

Did you all here on the news this morning about carbs and sugar make you fat?? Well I never. Grin

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 23/04/2015 08:26

Aggggg hear

BabsUnited · 23/04/2015 08:33

Mornin all.

Yesterday:
B: 2x celery with pate, salad leaves and cucumber and Mayo
L: 2x celery with pate, ham rolled round one avocado, leaves oil and Mayo
D: omelet with 3 eggs, ham, mushroom and shallot

Too much pate I think, keep forgetting it does have some carbs in. Also processed meat Hmm

Today I have chicken thighs skin on with salad and Mayo for lunch, and smoked salmon with Philadelphia rolls for brek. Pork scratching for pm snack. Also have a spin class at lunchtime although really struggling with exercise at the moment, it's about a hundred times harder than it used to be now I'm off carbs. Wibbly legs for hours after! Almost easier not to go but must force myself

StuntNun · 23/04/2015 08:35

Natural be aware that it is a weight loss stall but not a fat loss stall. If you are fat-adapted then you will be burning body fat. When you go low carb you lose a lot of water along with your glycogen stores and this causes a sort of panic in your body. Vasopressin hormone is released to cause water retention. The best thing you can do is to keep drinking lots of water so that the release of vasopressin is inhibited.

DarkEvilMoon · 23/04/2015 08:46

oh thank god for the second thread. Came to post last night and the old thread was full. I have to dash out for school run but i need to pick some brains again. I need a cunning plan for when I am chilled to the bone, and comfort eating is high risk. Will explain more in about 30 mins

SayraT · 23/04/2015 08:51

dark you could have started a new thread last night if you needed to, will check back in 30 mins and see if I can help with whatever you need help with.

SayraT , thank you for starting this thread - have to say, I panicked this morning when I found the last thread closed and nowhere to post!
BIWI, you are of course right, I won't expect to lose so much from now on - this is demonstrated by the fact that depending on which way I stand on the bathroom scales, I have either gained or stayed the same as yesterday!
Lunch today is going to be an adventure as we are taking DD to a tapas bar before she goes back to uni and as an early birthday celebration for her.
As usual, thank you for the support and advice and wishing a very good day to everyone on this thread FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

minibmw2010 · 23/04/2015 09:47

I had a posh afternoon tea with work yesterday, the hotel helpfully created me a bread free version so I had slices of ham, cheese, smoked salmon and cucumber. And I didn't miss the bread, scones or pastries at all. I was so pleased with myself. I did have 2 glasses of prosseco though. I wasn't hungry when I got home so had some FF Greek yoghurt with a tiny drizzle of maple syrup.

Today is going to be:

B: Greek yoghurt (needed to do a shop)
L: salad leaves with avocado, cheese, eggs and Mayo, with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
D: pork chop cooked in coconut oil with a cauliflower cheese.

Lots of water.

DarkEvilMoon · 23/04/2015 09:53

Sorry needed to deal with some fall out from the events of yesterday.

Yesterday i did good really good until midnight.
breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in butter
Lunch: giant salad with egg mayo
Found i had a packet of peanuts in the car which saw me through when I would normally struggle. But it seems that I can add nuts to the list of things that I am super sensitive to and best to avoid.
meetings from 3pm-1am
midnight was offered chocolate and ate it
came in around 2am exhausted, emotionally drained from the day. Came to post. No thread. Tried to make soft boiled eggs. boilt pan dry thought it safer to not cook. ate sugar.

I don't think the missing thread caused the sugar eating, nor do I think it would have had much impact if it was here. The sugar eating when I got home was habit. There were other choices but my addled brain didn't think of them. Generally i don't think that I will make the sugar mistake again because it has not helped me, it is not normally in the house and because I am going to stick a list of snacks on the fridge door to remind me of the good options. When I am that tired thinking is impossible and easy is good. The list can take the thinking bit out of the equation.

However, I am running out of snacky/good for eating out needs to be able to be prepared several days in advance. Need some ideas that are: milk free, wheat and gluten free, nightshade free (peppers/tomatoes etc) , nut free. Don't like peperami type things. Eggs don't do well if sorted several days in advance and then sit an entire day in the car. Getting to shops on days like that is really difficult as either actively in meetings on driving between. So the balance between not giving myself food poisoning, eating bootcamp friendly stuff, and not causing some sort of intollerance/allergy is really fine atm and I am struggling with it. Especially the no milk thing.
Ideas and virtual slaps needed and wished.

TIA

HolgerDanske · 23/04/2015 09:56

Small packets of pork scratchings. Always have a few in the car or in your bag. They are very good for a quick boost of energy and will keep for ages.

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2015 09:57

Found you! Thanks for the new thread.

B: Bulletproof tea
Half a fried chicken breast leftover from yesterday's dinner
2 mini cucumbers, lovely & crunchy
2 small slices of ham
philly to dip it all in Smile

I am munching away at my desk. Think I'll be saving some of it for lunch.

StuntNun thank you for that very clear explanation of a weight loss stall. I think that's what's happening to me. I'll keep on downing the water.

Dumdedumdedum · 23/04/2015 10:05

DarkEvilMoon I swear by Parmesan crisps as snacks, if you can eat cheese? Ah, sorry, see no milk, presume that means milk products too? Will rack my brains for you, but not v good at this snack stuff either.

SayraT · 23/04/2015 10:09

I don't think you need a slap Dark all of us are different and some of us have more struggles than others. I know that you struggle with eating full stop sometimes whereas I don't. You also have more difficulties with what you can eat, I will try to think about some snacks you might be able to have and list them here. It is a good idea to print or write out a list and have it somewhere visible.

When you are tired/stressed/emotional/whatever it can be far to easy to take a sugary/carby snack as in general they are easier to keep and store than LC options.

LC Snack Options

These won't all be suitable for you Dark but I am just trying to write down everything I can think of. Have you tried other nuts rather than peanuts? Since they aren't actually nuts you might be ok with others?

Hard boiled eggs
Olives
Cheese (Babybel travel well)
Cheese "crisps"
Pork scratchings
Nuts
Nut butter - spoonful
Coconut oil - spoonful
Extra thick cream - spoonful
Pepperami
Pepperoni/salami "crisps"
Cucumber sticks
Pepper sticks
Aubergine "crisps"
Kale "crisps"
Slice of good quality butter
Some berries with cream (not very LC but better than some other things)
Celery or lettuce with pate
Chicken pieces (sometimes I get the ready cooked stuff from the supermarket if I'm desperate)
Smoked salmon slices

It is difficult to think of suitable things for you Dark when you say no milk does that include cream?

Could you get a wee cool bag or something for when you are out in the car, then you could take nibbly meat things like ham/cold chicken/smoked salmon etc and it would stay cool. My parents have one that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

DarkEvilMoon · 23/04/2015 10:14

Only thing I can tollerate well in the milk stakes is butter.
I think what i am also finding hard is this is the nightshade list:

DarkEvilMoon · 23/04/2015 10:15

sorry will finish that in a mo just having an argument with the laptop. Hmm

StuntNun · 23/04/2015 10:15

Dark the Awfully Posh pork scratchings are gluten free. I buy them from Amazon and the chilli ones are cheaper than the plain ones. I sometimes cook extra chicken legs and keep them in the fridge for snacks. I marinade them in lemon juice, oil, dash of vinegar, herbs and seasoning before I cook them to make them a bit more interesting. Do all nuts cause problems or just some? Peanuts are more likely to cause issues, would almonds or macademias work for you? Some dark chocolate brands might be suitable although you would have to check the ingredients. A protein shake might do for a snack, I have a Maximuscle one I use after weights sessions that you mix with water. Fruit could be an option too now that strawberries are coming into season.

Gcalgske · 23/04/2015 10:18

Stunt I had the obvious genius idea of looking at the jars of coconut oil. According to the jar my 'cuisine' unflavoured version has slightly more Lauric acid than the Virgin! The white nutrition table is the unflavoured one.

Yes I was going to say almonds or cashews might be better than peanuts. I always make a conscious choice to only have a very small handful of nuts as that is usually plenty, even for quite severe hunger/shakes. I think the difficulties arise in part due to the ease of eating mindlessly when it comes to a packet of nuts.

I hope you come upon a few good ideas of easy convenient snacks.

Do you always have some sliced chicken breast, or maybe some smoked salmon, in the fridge? That or something similar is a life saver for me when I need something straightaway - I know what you mean, when you get that tired and hungry you absolutely cannot think straight to start assembling something to eat.

Do you like olives? I try to have a little jar of marinated olives handy. Five or six of those will usually buy me some time to think.

What was in your salad for lunch? Was it just salad foods or did it have a good amount of protein in it as well?

HolgerDanske · 23/04/2015 10:25

Oh heh missed out the 'egg' in egg mayo. Maybe this wasn't quite protein rich enough? Or maybe not enough fat?

HolgerDanske · 23/04/2015 10:29

My ideas for making a salad more filling are usually a few lardons or some pork scratchings added as a sort of crouton.

What about a couple of tins of mackerel? Easy to open, ready to eat, have it with cucumber sticks or celery for a bit of texture and crunch.

BabsUnited · 23/04/2015 10:30

Interesting article in the Guardian today about a report which claims exercise won't do anything for the UK's obesity crisis, and says: "They challenge conventional wisdom further by arguing that those who want to avoid excess weight gain should adopt a diet that is high in fat but low on both sugar and carbohydrates."

Full article here, worth a read I thought: www.theguardian.com/society/2015/apr/22/obesity-owes-more-to-bad-diet-than-lack-of-exercise-say-doctors

DarkEvilMoon · 23/04/2015 10:32

The nightshade list:
 tomatoes (all varieties, including tomatillos)
potatoes (all varieties, NOT sweet potatoes or yams)
 eggplant (aubergine)
 okra

peppers (all varieties such as bell pepper, wax pepper, green & red peppers, chili peppers, cayenne, paprika, etc.)
 goji berries
tomarillos (a plum-like fruit from Peru)
 sorrel
garden huckleberry & blueberries (contain the alkaloids that induce inflammation)
 gooseberries
 ground cherries
 pepino Melon
the homeopathic "Belladonna" [note: this is highly precautionary as homeopathics contain virtually no measurable "active" chemical]

 tobacco
 paprika
 cayenne pepper

HolgerDanske · 23/04/2015 10:35

Yes it's definitely true that diet matters far more than exercise when it comes to weight loss. I personally approach it as diet for weight loss/maintenance, and exercise for fitness/mental well being.

And of course we all know about the virtues of low carb/high fat vs. sugar/carbs Wink
