Hideous and horrendous.

But it must have been quite traumatic for the woman - who was 16 at the time. To have gone through a termination, and then come to terms with still being pg with a baby she had not wanted.

And for a simple procedure - a bit careless of the hospital?

this is unfortunate for the mother, but I wouldnt put a child of mine through the press like that, whatever the circumstances

thats Shock and :(
I'm sorry but if she didn't want her child she should have got her adopted, instead of trying to sue the hospital.

seems like the mother is thinking of a get rich quick method. no matter how traumatic it may have been for her, why is she forcing the innocent child to go through htis?
no procedure is ever guaranteed. if the mother had actually paid attention to what was said to her, she would have known this, and i agree, she should have given the child up for adoptin if she was so anti it.

Maybe she wants some financial security for her child? And maybe she wants the hospital to pay attention and to be a bit more careful in future - sadly sometimes the only way you get docs to do this is by going down the legal route.

I doubt she'll get anywhere, though. Courts have always held that the birth of a live baby is a blessing and refused to award compensation in similar cases.

From what I understand, the patient has to sign a waiver before undergoing such a procedure that contains a clause w/potential pitfalls, one of which is that the procedure won't be successful.

I don't think she should get any money. Why? This country offers free birth control, ffs. That's more than happens where I'm from.

She wants financial security she can get up and work for it like the rest of us.

it states that the doctor couldnt see any indecation that there was still a foetus in her ? maybe she got pregnant straight after the procedure and went on to have that said child? whos to say that the little girl is one of the twins from the first pregnancy?

just a thought?

I would be interested to know what form of contraception she was using at the time.

Report
expatinscotland · 20/03/2006 19:05

Not enough to keep her from knowing she really wanted her dead.

Report
expatinscotland · 20/03/2006 19:06

Well, everyone knows, contraception can fail.

I had to sign something last week when we took DS to hospital, we were told that the op. might not work and it was written down, I signed it and was given a copy.

She's just doing it for the money, trying to cash in. Wouldn't want to be her when her daughter's grown up and understands what happened.

fastasleep · 20/03/2006 19:08

But her poor baby! Discount everything else, the entire nation now knows that she wasn't wanted, well done her mum, what a great childhood memory.

Report
Gillian76 · 20/03/2006 19:08

Whatever the circumstances, unforgivable to do that to any child. Her poor daughter is 5 now and most probably at school. Very difficult to protect a child of that age I would think.

:( and Angry

Contraception can fail. But used correctly contracption can also be amazingly effective.

Even the condom ,not the most reliable of method has high levels of sucess when used correctly.

I'd be interested to know how careful she was to prevent un unwanted pg, given that she is now trying to get compensation for loss of earnings.

If she can should that she did take care, I'd have a little more sympathy for her situation, if not her heartless way of dealing with it. Howveer the sympathy runs out if she was using termination as her contraception.

I found another story she had the termination in jan 2001, her daughter was born aug 2001 \link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4507090.stm\here}

Not only did she kill this little girl's sibling, she's telling the world she wanted to kill her too.

Classy.
