How is everyone doing? Where's Amanda got to?

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 19:48

I'm having it at a water activity centre in the lakes (nothing fancy- very basic like a youth hostel!) with people staying for the weekend and a bbq (fingers crossed for the weather) on the Saturday :)

This is complete madness as I don't even like getting my hair wet but though it would be fun! As for outfit I'm stuck as I want something nice but not too dressy- was thinking poss maxi dress with sandals and little denim jacket???

Hi Pipoca! :)

AmandaCooper · 06/08/2010 20:06

Hi Pipoca and everyone

Sorry I've not been around, I felt I needed to take a break from this forum for a while to try to get my head together. Thank you all for your concern, I'm sorry if I had you worried.

Hope everyone's been keeping well and hello to all the many new waiters! I'll go back and read everyone's posts on the other thread in a minute.

I'm not quite sure if I'm just dropping in now to let you all know I'm ok, but I'll add my name to the list anyway, just to keep me in the game!

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 20:36

Hello AmandaCooper!
I know I haven't spoken to you before but I have read about your ongoing situation re TTC and I really felt for you! Also I grew up near Hollingworth Lake! Did you travel to go camping there or are you local to that area? :)

AmandaCooper · 06/08/2010 21:15

Hi Strawberry Pie, I grew up in Saddleworth, so quite local, but we live in Bradford these days. Welcome to MN and especially this terminal, where I have now been waiting for my bus to come along since February! I read your thread earlier on today and thought "gosh even people who don't know me are worrying about where I've got to, I better pop in and say hi!" So thanks for your concern.

What's your story if you don't mind me asking? Apart from the process of coming off the pill and letting your body adjust that is?

AmandaCooper · 06/08/2010 21:36

I have to say I can't believe that so many people have joined us.

Just shagging it looks like you and I are going to have lots of excellent company well into next year (assuming everybody bucks the trend of starting ttc earlier than planned lol). A big warm welcome to everybody! I feel a bit rude for not being here when you all arrived, like maybe I was still upstairs fixing my hair or something when I should have been downstairs handing out canapes!

It seems that there are now quite a few others desperately trying to convince their OHs now that trying to conceive is a good idea! While I do like to think I would never do it to DH, being in this situation month after month really does change your perspective on the whole "happy accident" debate. I have heard women who do this compared to men having had a vascectomy on the sly - but I don't really think that that is a fair comparison. And particularly where the men are keen to have children but are just dragging their feet pointlessly while their wife gets older. A happy accident could be anything on the scale from giving someone a little push who was dithering up to forcing somebody into a life choice they really never wanted. I'm not saying that I would ever do it, but I can well understand why people voice these suggestions.

Squirrel you're very lucky that your other half is as much on board with trying to conceive as you are. I am very envious.

So as you can see, why wait, this is very much the place for you - as there are several of us patiently (ahem!) waiting for our husbands to catch up with us. I'm so sorry to hear about your redundancy, but it does seem that you could put the time and money to good use! I only hope that you can convince your other half of what a brilliant plan it is!

Quodlibet lol at you reporting for Waiting and not MIA! So sorry to hear about your loss, it must have been a hard time. Don't give a second thought about wallowing, you can moan as much as you want.

In terms of coming off the pill or staying on and hoping for the fertility surge, my recent experience was that I came off the pill after 12 months on it and found that I hadn't ovulated by day 16 of my first cycle, which made me totally panic and really glad that I had come off the pill early, thinking what if I had left it? I had started charting and on day 17 my thermometer broke, so I never found out whether I had ovulated.

So I'm glad that I've started early because now, if there are any problems conceiving, I will already have plenty of data to take along to the doctor.

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 21:37

Thanks Amanda!

This is a small world! I grew up in Rochdale but live in Mossley now and sometimes work in Saddleworth! As for Bradford I remember visiting one of my friends who went to uni there and had the best curry ever, also know some people who live in Saltaire.

My story is.....DP and I have been together for 9 years, we have a house, not married but are thinking about it. We are waiting to TTC until both our careers are sorted (he has finished his training but still to find a job so that is a factor) and I start a new position in October so have to delay a bit because of maternity pay, also want to be able to drink at my b'day and am going skiing for the first time after xmas so plan to start when back from there. phew!

sorry for long post :) :) :)

AmandaCooper · 06/08/2010 21:48

Not long compared with mine above! I am making up for some lost time!

Yes it is a small world. Saddleworth's a lovely part of the world, I'd move back there if we could take all our family and friends with us! I know Rochdale a bit but mainly the nightclubs from circa 1995!

You are lucky to have a house. I think having a house would make a big difference to DH's attitude. When we were young our generation really had it knocked into our heads to buy property and not to rent, and I can remember thinking even as a very little girl, that I would put all my money into paying off a mortgage and would never be so stupid as to rent. And look where I am, twelve years of renting later and no closer to owning a house!

It sounds like you have some great plans to keep you occupied while you are waiting. I suppose it helps to keep busy. I always do seem to keep busy so I don't know, but it makes sense! Is it a special birthday or just bog standard?!

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 22:05

It is a horrendously big birthday....I feel queasy saying it - 30! Aaarrgghh!

Do you remember Xanadus? How about Club Pazazz and Bojangles? Over in Oldham I think Henry Africas was the place to be in 1995 no?

As for the house, we wouldn't have been able to do it but my mum sadly died when I was 22 and left me some money so it's a mixed blessing really:(

How are things with you now? have you spoken with your DH about TTC recently?

deemented · 06/08/2010 22:11

Can i pop my head in over here???

I already have DS2, dd and DS3, but would dearly love another. Manshape has agreed in principle, but wants to wait until DS3 is at least 2 or 3. Me, i'd start trying right now, but he's not for shifting.

I am on the pill, and he's indicated that should an accident occour then it wouldn't be the end of the world, but as i'm still exclusively BF ds3, and haven't had a period since having him, it is unlikely!

squirrel007 · 06/08/2010 22:17

Hi Amanda :) I am a bit shocked that hb is completely onboard with the babies thing - think actually he is the one who convinced me! I can see that it's tough if you're both in different places though, and it's so difficult to come to a compromise on such a big issue.

strawberry 30 is my next bday too! Sounds like you have great plans :) do you have any dresses in mind?

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 22:32

Hi squirrel! I've seen a nice dress but it's way out of my price range! I'll keep looking though! I also toyed with the idea of a jumpsuit but my DP started mumbling about me looking like a ghostbuster!

Have you any plans for your birthday Squirrel?

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 22:34

ps hello deemented, wow you have your hands full by the sounds of it! :)

nannyl · 06/08/2010 22:37

Hello again amanda Smile

strawberrypie I too will be 30 in September AGHHHHHHH
I have no plans to do anything though, as this year i have moved 250 miles away from my whole entire very close family and all my friends so wont actually see any of them either Sad....

  • I will be working on the actual day

oh well, hopefully next year i will be close to having my own family to celebrate it with Smile

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 22:50

oh nannyl I'm sorry to hear you will be working on your birthday! That is a bummer :( I hope you can arrange something nice for around that time though! :)

250 miles is a long way from F&F, did you move for your job?

squirrel007 · 06/08/2010 22:52

strawberry no bday plans yet, but I have a few months yet to plan :) the dress is pretty but the price isn't Shock Maybe there'll be some similar cheaper dresses out once shops get their autumn stuff in. Don't think I'd be able to pull off the jumpsuit, I'd definitely look like I was there to fix something! But it'd be great if you could carry it off!

Hi deemented Smile and nannyl hope you can find a way to celebrate your birthday in style!

strawberrypie · 06/08/2010 22:58

PMSL at "there to fix something" squirrel! I don't think I could pull it off either! I would never spend that much on a dress but I can dream.............Wink

AmandaCooper · 06/08/2010 23:44

I'm sorry to hear that about your mum. I do remember Xanadus very well indeed! And Bojangles and Henry Africas - although we went out in Bolton more than Oldham. It is hard to believe we're all more or less in our thirties now. And childless to boot!

I do still mention TTC to DH, I've been trying to get some idea of how long a period of time we definitely can't TTC for, because you'd imagine it would be linked to some concern about his job, or the house situation, but no, there's no fixed time. He wants children eventually, in fact he talks about us having two, but not yet.

Hi there deemented! Well we're coming at it from very different angles aren't we! You must recommend having babies if you're wanting another. Your OH has been pretty laid back about it all so far it seems! Perhaps he'd like to have a word with mine!

Hi Squirrel and nannyl xx

bebejones · 07/08/2010 07:46

Wow this has been busy overnight!!

Sorry to hear you are still 'struggling' to convince your DH. Completely understand you needing a break from the thread, glad you are ok though!

Welcome deemented, glad I'm not the only one with a child(ren) already who is waiting! So it doesn't get easier to convince DHs to TTC the more LOs you have?! Wink

Strawberry - love the dress but Shock at the price!! Have you looked at ASOS they might have something along those lines a bit cheaper? Steer well clear of jumpsuits & hareem pants, think you need to be about 15 to carry those off IMO! Hmm So sorry about your mum :( My dad died when I was 20, just before I started Uni & the money he left has paid for all sorts of things we never would have afforded otherwise, so is very bittersweet :(

Nannyl - working on your birthday sucks! Hope you get to have a big night out to make up for it! 250 miles from f&f is a long way :( I live about 140miles from my f&f & that is bad enough.

Have a million things to do today so had best get off MN and get on with them! Had an awful nights sleep, my leg feels really bruised from jab Confused and everytime I moved the pain woke me up! No idea why, can't see a mark at all! Oh well, only 7 jabs to go!! :o

nannyl · 07/08/2010 08:32

i didnt move for my job.... i moved to be closer to my OH as we had been doing the long distance thing for a while and it was too far to travel for a weekend...

he cant move due to running his own company up here so i had to move.... i dont regret moving at all.... it has got me out of nannying and i now have a lovely job in the local private school in kindergarten..... so i get lots of long holidays (ie 7 weeks at the moment Smile) but cant take a day off (ie for my birthday)

Not sure i will do much as am away down south (but not my home bit of south) for 4 / 5 of the following weekends, attending other friends weddings, so although i'll be home alot will probably only see my family for a couple of hours tops, on 2 of those weekends, and no chance on the others!!!

i think working F/T in the week and driving 500 miles at the weekends will exhaust me actually.

luckily OH has a really really lovely family, who have always treated me as part of their family, who i love to bits, but they arnt my biological family

will be the 1st time ever ive not seen them Sad

nannyl · 07/08/2010 08:35

welcome demented

any idea when you might be TTC?
