AIBU?

AIBU to loathe the huge flatscreen TV now sitting in my living room?

Our old, small, perfectly adequate TV was broken when the two year old threw his Thomas train at it.

This obviously provided dh with the perfect excuse to go out and buy some stupid, enormous flatscreen monstrosity which is now balefully sitting in the living room and pissing me off.

It just looks, there is no other word for it, common. And I just hate it.

When DH is out, I may load the kid up with the rest of his train collection and let him at it....

Men seem to love big TVs don't they?

I'm with you - they look naff.

My dad treated himself to a huge one at Christmas. My mum is sulking! They have a huge sitting room but it's still the first thing you see when you walk in.

YANBU at all. I hate them. DH is desperate for one. I'm sure he would try to break ours to get one

not unreasonable at all.

you should have had some input in this! if dp came home with a monster tv he'd be putting it straight back in the car and returning it.
have nothing against big flat things... just not TOO big.

Show off. I'll swap it for our TV, which seems to withstand trains hitting it on a daily basis.

Can't you put it on the wall and cover with a light fabric in the day?

ooh, I've got one and I love it! 36inch, or 37, I think.

Or might be 34.

Flipping lovely!

does this mean I am common?

Do the posh watch tv on screens no bigger than a hanky?

thing is it's just horrible sitting in front of something really massive.
ok if you have a HUGE sitting room and are sitting quite far away, but if not it'll do your head in

YABU.
I don't understand how a telly can look common.
Is it wearing a shell suit?

Agree with Lou. Very large tvs = common and chavtastic. There is simply no need for a 50 inch tv especially those who squeeze a 40 - 50 incher into a matchbox sized living room.

Theyre just too big and 'in yer face'. Theyre certainly no status symbol because theyre all dirt cheap now!

Report
MillyR · 20/01/2009 20:09

How big is too big then? 24? 36?

40 inch or something.
He's in seventh heaven;I feel like I've entered the inner circle of hell.
What was he thinking?
Does he need glasses, perhaps?

As Elsiepiddock says it seems to be mainly men who are obsessed with having a huge one.

I get to nose around visit houses through my work.

Quite often I'll go into a beautiful new sitting room and see a dirty great galumping TV on the chimney breast.

I always think it spoils the room.

dh brought a new tv in the january sales, we agreed no bigger than a 32", i stupidly let him go tv shopping with our 11 yr old and they bring back a 42" plasma, because 'it was cheaper than the small one'.

Luckily our lounge is a fiar size so it doesn;t dominate too much. So i totally understand you feeling agreived that he brough a huge tv.

Meglet · 20/01/2009 20:25

YANBU. can't stand them, they dominate everything but the hugest sitting room. (yes common .

Theresa · 20/01/2009 20:33

YANBU, I dont like them. About a year or so ago dh decided we 'needed' a new tv as the sport looked rubbish on our old one so he went and bought one which is i think 36" and I'm not keen, however its not a 'thin one' its a flat screen with a very 'fat back' so was cheap as everyone was buying thin ones. He arrived home from the shop, struggled out of the car with this enourmous box and then had to unpack it all on the driveway as it wouldnt fit thru front door in the box. I watched thru the window pmsl

My DH has just bought a 37" for our tiny sitting room.

He then said he bought it for me to watch Jeremy Kyle while I am at home with the baby.

SweetestThing · 20/01/2009 20:36

We have a 42 " plasma but it doesn't dominate the room at all. Love it, so I'm with Hecate and LightShines here :-D
