AIBU to be asked to reframe my trauma by the trans CEO of Scottish Rape Crisis?

The CEO of Edinburgh Rape Crisis has said "Sexual violence happens to bigoted people too. But if you bring beliefs that are discriminatory, expect to be challenged on your prejudice. Reframe your trauma"

Apparently, survivors are to be "educated" in this service.

Tonight is a really tough one. Women who have been raped or sexually assaulted need females to listen to them. Rape Crisis was that service and used to offer trauma based therapy.

I don't need educating - I know that detailing my experience to a man, or a transwomen is NEVER something I will do.

This is too much.

Absolutely.

NC - I am so upset tonight. But I will fight this tooth and nail even though it hurts. #nothankyou

So inappropriate.

evespudding · 10/08/2021 21:34

Just appalling.

endofthelinefinally · 10/08/2021 21:36

Women and girls who have been sexually assaulted and raped are traumatised, shocked, damaged, fearful of men. I cannot even begin to imagine how they must feel when confronted with a male person in a rape crisis centre, let alone one who tells them to re-frame their trauma.

It is just cruel, deeply insensitive and abusive. IMO.

@Alonelonelylonersbadidea

I would like him to reframe himself outside of the world of women frankly. I don't have anything good to say about this dude or worse yet the women who have allowed it to happen and still sit idly by.
Yes
herewegogc · 10/08/2021 21:38

Emols - yes what the fuck? This insidious creep into women's and children's rights is now coming to fruition. Safeguarding is being thrown out of the window. @MNHQ - please don't move this thread to the feminist gulag. One in four women have been sexually assaulted/raped by men and MNetters are included in this. We need to have this conversation.

No. Just no.
This is practically dystopian its so dysfunctional. How do we fight this?

AtrociousCircumstance · 10/08/2021 21:39

Unbelievable misogyny, sheer hatred and oppression of women. In plain sight.

MadeOfStarStuff · 10/08/2021 21:39

Traumatised women have to change because a man doesn’t approve. Fuck that.

happydays2345 · 10/08/2021 21:41

As someone who has been sexually assaulted I need a decent human to listen to me. I personally don't care how they identify.

herewegogc · 10/08/2021 21:45

In the spirit of AIBU - my question is - should we, as females, just shut up in the spirit of kindness? Or should we, as survivors, say no, we will not allow our experiences to be dismissed and 'reframed'?

OP posts:
Lifeinthelastlane · 10/08/2021 21:45

What? If you're in the business of supporting someone through a traumatic incident you don't stop to re-educate them because they are (in your view) racist/homophobic/classist whatever. None of that should matter.
Obviously the CEO is referring solely to transphobia but the principle applies - and of course it is not transphobic to want a female counsellor if you have been raped.

endofthelinefinally · 10/08/2021 21:46

Rape crisis centres and refuges that exist for women should be for women. There are already separate services for men that are different and appropriate. Why should that be changed just because a minority of men demand it?
Children in domestic violence refuges are so terrified and damaged that they will literally hide under beds, tables, in cupboards if they hear a male voice. It is really important that males are not allowed in refuges.

EdwinasPuppy · 10/08/2021 21:47

Fuck. No!

But this will definitely get moved OP Angry

KeeOe · 10/08/2021 21:47

This cannot, surely, be meant in the way its written. Surely, surely not. I am almost speechless with sorrow and anger.

@happydays2345

As someone who has been sexually assaulted I need a decent human to listen to me. I personally don't care how they identify.
Does a decent human lie to get a job working with vulnerable women? Does a decent person tell women to reframe their trauma? Does a decent person fixate about wine orgasming during rape? Does a decent person throw a tantrum because a political party voted to allow women to choose to be examined by someone of the female sex rather than gender?
