AIBU?

AIBU to be terrified of a Hollywood/Brazilian wax?

So I'm quite hairy down there.

And now after 5 years of no sex, there might be something happening soon.

I'm far too conscious of how hairy I am to just go au natural and shaving and trimming makes me horribly itchy.

So a wax is my only option but I'm TERRIFIED. I've heard such horror stories about how much it hurts, I'm so so scared.

I'm also afraid of getting like bumps or infections in the hair follicles because my hair is quite thick and the skin is quite sensitive.

Anyone got some positive stories about this?

Um...no...but afterwards, can you rate it on a scale of 1 to 10? I'm also curious.

I've never done it. I can imagine it is pretty painful.

How about just get the borders waxed off, and trim down the main bush. (I use DH hair clippers ha ha).

I do it regularly. It is painful! However the more often you do it, it becomes less painful as the hair is finer (sorry tmi). You need someone really professional who will make you feel comfortable.
Every time I do it i think why do i do this, but afterwards the clean and neat result is worth it.

Just Veet it the day before instead...

You could start by trimming the zone, and exfoliate and hydrate it for 2 weeks. No rough stuff, just preparing the skin.
The day you do it, trim it a bit, and bite on your belt. It is going to hurt, but when you do it after, there will be less stuff to take care of, and will hurt less.
However, if you feel this is unbearable, remember you do not need to torture yourself. Just trim, it will be tidy without the problem of itchy regrowth.

I had one this morning, I get one every four weeks. It's not that painful, but I find it depends on the aesthetician how much it actually hurts. I'd suggest checking Yelp for reviews. I've never had ingrown hairs, I wash with one of those exfoliating gloves after it's done. I don't get bumps, either. It's very smooth and soft when it's done, I love it.

I've tried trimming and I'll never do it again ! For some reason because of how thick my hair is, if I trim it, it itches to the point of being unbearable.

Aie!
Yup, waxing it is, then...

I've been getting them for 5 years now. It's normal for the first time to seem scary, but you should be fine. Smile

One thing though, if your hair is quite long down there I've found that it tends to hurt more. I'd trim it first if it's longer than perhaps a centimeter, but not too short or else the wax won't have enough to grip.

Also, a reputable salon or spa is definitely worth paying extra for. Tell them you're nervous, let them know you have sensitive skin, and they'll make it as pleasant for you as possible.

Can I actually use VEET down there?! Thought you weren't meant to

It's risky. The skin is fragile, and because of the way it rubs against clothes make it even more sensitive should you get an irritation.

Yikes! Why do it? Just trim the edges

Report

Please don't use Veet down there unless you find the prospect of chemical burns appealing.

Two paracetamol for you, ibuprofen gel for the fanjo, and/or bonjela.

I Veet it ALL! No, you're not meant to on your most sensitive inner bits, so slather your inner labia with thick layer of Vaseline to protect it. You have to do it lying down with a mirror and it can be messy. Trim as much as you can first. Any strays you miss you can pluck after. Do a test patch if you're unsure.

Nooooooo to immac. Just no
Tell the salon it's your first time, they will trim if need be first, and take a painkiller before you go in

Honestly it will be fine, but please DON'T USE IMMAC DOWN THERE

The regrowth isn't itchy like shaving as the regrowth is softer on the ends. Have been veeting down there for years and fanjo has not melted.

I use veet nice but veet , wax or shave when it grows back doesn't look nice. veet wont itch like shaving though, but can irritate so time it properly otherwise you will be sore later for a few hours. if its not perfect you can use mild soap bar then shave perfect wont itch. pure shaving does itch I cant do that plus I cut myself and I'm not doing it again.

dont get the cream on any internal parts stay well away it will sting after for ages if you do that, plus can't be good for you healthwise.

I duno what a Hollywood or Brazilian is, but ive tried waxing once at home myself aint no one unnecessarily seeing my private parts lol. I wax legs I can handle it, underarm painful at first but I can handle it. But lower regions waxing... no pain like it, give me labour any day. plus tiny dots of blood too, no thanks dont care how hair free it is for how many weeks, why would I volunteer for torture????
