Woman in bathroom

Bikini season feels like a long way off yet. But if you like to keep things tidy ‘down there’ all year round you might consider doing some DIY at-home trimming instead.

Home pruning can be fraught with risk though, and disposable razors and hair removal creams have the potential to leave nasty rashes, especially if you have sensitive skin. Bikini trimmers tend to be smaller than electric razors and less painful than an epilator as well as being easy to pop into a toiletry bag.

With that in mind, an electric bikini trimmer could be just the gadget to help you stay tidy and nick-free whether you’re donning your swimsuit at some point in the future or just relaxing at home in your loungewear.

Here are the 10 best bikini trimmers and razors for 2022.

1. Best overall electric bikini trimmer: Philips BikiniGenie

Philips BikiniGenie

“The epilator I’ve got (Philips) has a decent electric shaver with various bikini attachments.”

Our best overall electric bikini trimmer and razor offers a lot of handy extras, making it excellent value for money. The comfortable ergonomic grip makes it easy to hold and use too.

Each Philips BikiniGenie pack comes with two bikini trimmers that can cut and shape hair down to 3mm or 5mm in length. The rounded trimming tips lessen the risk of nasty cuts and nicks – because, let’s face it, plasters are never chic.

You can use the precision shaving head for a super smooth finish and it also comes with a convenient storage pouch. Unlike some razors, the blades aren’t infused with a moisturising serum, but this is just a minor quibble.

2. Best budget bikini trimmer and razor: Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women

Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women

“A fab little trimmer is the Quattro by Wilkinson Sword.”

Mumsnetters mention the Wilkinson Sword Quattro a lot and it gets high marks from independent reviewers too – impressive for such a reasonable price. This clever little trimmer and razor combo is our best budget buy, and the first of two Wilkinson Sword products on our list.

The razor boasts four sharp blades and moisturising Aloe and Vitamin E. At the other end of the curved handle is an easy-to-use and control battery-operated electric trimmer with three settings to choose from.

Price: £8.74

3. Best affordable bikini trimmer: Babyliss True Smooth Wet and Dry Bikini Trimmer

Babyliss True Smooth Wet and Dry Bikini Trimmer

Another fantastic budget buy, this bikini trimmer from BaByliss is simple to use, making it ideal for those trying bikini line tidying for the first time.

It doesn’t offer a separate razor attachment, like some on our list, but it’s very effective at giving pleasingly close results. The Babyliss True Smooth Wet and Dry Bikini Trimmer also comes already loaded with two AAA batteries and two combs.

Slightly bulky and only available in a retro baby pink shade, it isn’t particularly sleek or stylish. But unless you were intending on putting it out on display, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Price: £13

4. Best travel electric razor and bikini trimmer: Braun Silk-Epil 7 7-561 Wet and Dry Epilator for Women

Braun Silk-Epil 7 7-561 Epilator

Designed to be 100% waterproof and cordless, this razor and bikini line trimmer is safe to use in a bath or shower and has a rounded tip to prevent nicks and irritation.

The Braun Silk-Epil 7 7-561 Wet and Dry Epilator for Women is a three-in-one bikini trimmer – it functions as a razor, a trimmer and an epilator. The epilator can remove fine hair as short as 0.5mm and has a pivoting head that follows the contours of your body.

Slim and light, the Silk-Epil makes a great travel electric razor and is ideal for popping into your overnight bag. It can also be adapted to worldwide AC voltage and has a handy smart light. With all these extra features though, it comes as no surprise that this electric razor is one of the most expensive on our list.

5. Best wet and dry bikini trimmer: Remington Ultimate Cordless Wet and Dry Bikini Kit

Remington Ultimate Cordless Wet and Dry Bikini Kit

This set is the complete package for all your bikini grooming needs, whether you’re carrying out regular hair removal maintenance or ‘emergency procedures.’

The trimmer in the Remington Ultimate Cordless Wet and Dry Bikini Kit is easy to use and you can personalise it for the effects you want. There’s a razor attachment, a comb and even an exfoliating brush to prevent in-growing hairs.

Ideal for day to day maintenance or any last minute hair removal emergencies, this personal trimmer carefully and quickly removes any unwanted hair with total ease and should keep your skin silky smooth too. Suitable in the shower or bath or for dry use, it’s a versatile buy that won’t cost the earth.

6. Best bikini trimmer for battery life: VOYOR Electric Lady Shaver Wet and Dry Rechargeable Bikini Trimmer

VOYOR Electric Lady Shaver

This gadget offers lots of value as you get two trimming heads, a shaving head, an epilator head and a silicone facial cleansing head included. Equipped with self-sharpening stainless steel blades and a powerful motor, it ensures fast, safe and painless hair trimming.

When fully charged, the VOYOR Electric Lady Shaver Wet and Dry Rechargeable Bikini Trimmer gives you an impressive 120 minutes of cordless shaving time. So, even with only five minutes of charging, you’ll have enough power for one use.

With a IPX6 waterproof rating and including five multifunctional heads, the only drawback is that the epilator head is a bit fiddly and tricky to operate.

7. Best electric trimmer for sensitive skin: Veet Sensitive Precision Beauty Styler Expert

Veet Sensitive Precision Beauty Styler Expert

“Veet Sensitive Precision! This has changed my life. My sensitive skin can't deal with razors and shaving foam so this is a lifesaver.”

Mumsnetters with sensitive skin rate this gentle bikini line trimmer. If you also suffer from inflammation and rashes in delicate spots, this could be the electric bikini line trimmer for you.

The adjustable head’s cutting blades on the Veet Sensitive Precision Beauty Styler Expert don’t actually touch your skin – meaning the chance of mishaps is greatly reduced. It’s versatile as well as sensitive, suitable for use on your eyebrows and underarms too.

We like that the Veet can be used in the shower or bath or on dry land, and the anti-slip handle grip makes it easier to hold. It’s useful for trips away too as you can pop it in its beauty pouch and sling it in your bag.

8. Best bikini trimmer for a close shave: Wahl 3-in-1 Face and Body Hair Trimmer

Wahl 3-in-1 Face and Body Hair Trimmer

“I've got a Wahl one. Had it ages and no complaints!”

Wahl have been making gents’ clippers for over a century, but they also produce personal care items for women – and their 3-in-1 Face and Body Hair Trimmer comes highly recommended on the Mumsnet forums.

Rechargeable and with a soft-touch grip, it offers three attachments. The trimmer attachment will take care of your bikini line and underarms, and you can choose from five different lengths by using the adjustable comb. The rotary shaver attachment allows you to achieve an incredibly close shave without the risks of nicks or cuts. There’s also an eyebrow attachment so you can achieve flawless results all over. Helpfully, the battery lasts for an hour when fully charged.

Price: £22.50

9. Best bikini trimmer for long-term hair removal: No!No! Pivot The Ultimate Hair Removal System for Face and Body

No!No! Pivot The Ultimate Hair Removal System for Face and Body

The most expensive bikini line trimmer in our round-up, the No Pivot The Ultimate Hair Removal System has a pivoting head. This means that it can get into all those pesky areas that your razor can’t reach and you can also choose between five power levels.

This high-tech hair trimmer uses 'Thermicon' technology developed by the brand's experts at to heat-damage the hair and reduce the bond with the follicle, causing it to grow back thinner over time until, eventually, you shouldn’t need to shave or trim at all.

If you’re willing to take a punt on a more scientific hair removal method, this could be the trimmer for you. However, it’s important to note that this trimmer can’t be used in the shower or bath and is for dry trimming only.

10. Best bikini trimmer for beginners: Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini Trimmer and Razor for Women

Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk

“The Wilkinson Sword razor with the bikini trimmer on is good for taming the length and tidying up.”

This nifty double-ended gadget nips into hard-to-reach spots with such ease that it’s ideal for anyone trimming their bikini line for the first time – and a really affordable option too.

One end of the Wilkinson Sword Hydro Silk Bikini Trimmer and Razor for Women has a Shea butter-infused five-bladed razor while the other offers a trimmer and comb with four length settings so you can simply adjust it depending on the results you want.

It’s fully waterproof and includes the required AAA battery. However, this pack contains only one razor head, so you’ll have to purchase replacements when you need them. Still, at this bargain price, we’re not complaining.

Are bikini trimmers worth it?

You may be happy leaving your bikini line au natural or using a razor or hair removal cream on it.

But if you want to do some DIY sprucing of your bikini line, you could benefit from adding to your home grooming kit.

Bikini trimmers tend to be able to get into the tricky spots where razors fail and they’re less likely to cause nasty cuts too.

While epilators and electric shavers can cost around £50 or more, you can pick up a basic battery-operated home bikini trimmer for less than £15.

More expensive models may offer extra features such as being waterproof (not all trimmers can be used in the bath or shower so it’s important to check), cordless and rechargeable. They may also offer different attachments, including a comb, precision head for shaping, a brush for exfoliation and a carry bag.

How to use an electric bikini trimmer

  1. Clean your tools – it’s best to have a separate grooming kit for your bikini area

  2. Using scissors, carefully trim excess hair before you shave or tidy

  3. Wash the area

  4. Exfoliate to help prevent ingrown hairs

  5. Lather up your skin using a shaving foam or oil

  6. Get to work by trimming in the direction of hair growth

  7. Don’t rush and do pay attention to what you’re doing

Do bikini trimmers cause ingrown hairs?

As bikini trimmers work like razors by cutting the hairs rather than pulling them out (as waxing or epilating does) or dissolving them (as hair removal creams do), it’s true that there’s more chance of you getting ingrown hairs when using a bikini trimmer, which can be particularly painful around the sensitive bikini area.

To lessen the chance of ingrown hairs, use creams that exfoliate your skin and help release trapped hair – check the ingredients list for lactic acid, salicylic acid or glycolic acid.

Which is the best bikini trimmer?

The bargainous Wilkinson Sword Quattro for Women is our best budget 2-in-1 bikini trimmer followed closely by the Babyliss True Smooth Wet and Dry Bikini Trimmer. The Remington Ultimate Cordless Wet and Dry Bikini Kit offers a complete package for your grooming needs and won our best wet and dry bikini trimmer award.

However, the best bikini trimmer to buy is the Philips BikiniGenie because it offers great results and useful extras for a very reasonable price.
