I saw a nice top whilst out today, and i do like it alot, but i would also want a white pair of jeans to go with them. I like the top a lot, but i am not sure about paying £35 for it. I am trying to save for rent in advance and a deposit, but it looks like the council will have to house me. I am going for a family meal on sunday as well and have nothing to wear.

Is £35 a stupid amount to spend on a top? And should i just get a different colour to avoid buying a new pair of jeans?

Think i really need someone to say, no buy it for yourself...but doubt you will. Talk me into/ out of it please. So undecided!

You're homeless or between homes and you're asking whether you should spend £35 (plus white jeans, which incidentally the 80s called and they want their trousers back) on a fucking TOP?

I don't think you ought to buy it if you are trying really hard to save up for your rent etc.

I am sure you really do have something to wear, and if you dont, you could get a top from a charity shop for less than a fiver.. if you are practically homeless, then no, you shouldnt be out spending unnecessary money on clothes.

I'm trying hard to save money atm and so actively avoid the shops for this very reason!

No you are saving and are in no position for frivolous purchases. save up if you really need something but make do for now, its a lot of money.

Sorry, yes final word on the subject, you will get something great in a charity shop for a fraction of the price.

I know, but i literally have no clothes, now i have lost weight. It seemd like a lot to spend. The last top i bought myself was 6.99, which i didnt feel so bad spending, really cos i did have nothing at all to wear, only about three tops with me and i did buy a new pair of jeans before christmas, cos i HAD TO, They were quite old, and where they had been worn sooooo much they actually had a whole worn in them, in the bottom, so needed a new pair.

I thought it was stupid. I looked and saw and liked, but i do that with jewellery too, and walk away from it, and never go back. apart from the pretty ring i have on now, which cost 9.50 in marks and spencer, with a voucher i got given for christmas.

Oh i dont know Stupid me. I did buy today however a knife set, ready for when i do get my own place and a saucepan, but that is sensible right? They are ina friends loft?

Is it not a bit early for white jeans - season wise? Go to Primark or H&M or Asda.

Wash the clothes you have. £35 for a top?? Madness. I could buy a week's groceries for that.

I think £35 is quite expensive for a top especially given your financial circumstances. Like wigglesrock said, get yourself to Primark. I've had tops from there for £1 or £2 recently in the sale and they've been great

When i came down, i had a suitcase, and bought everything possible of my little ones, so have very little, but the council have said they will assist with private rented, just cant find anywhere. Seems so hard. Done really well before christmas, when i saw a dress i LOVED, but DIDNT buy. It was very pretty and very "me" but it was 45pounds and i went nope!

Stupid me. Surely we all have these thoughts though even when trying to save? I have been feeling good in myself. Someone did offer to buy it for me for when i go out, but i like to pay my own way iykwim

If you really need a top, go to a supermarket and get one. But I'm sure your family would much rather see you settled and secure, than wearing a new top to the meal.

you don't need stuff, you haven't got anywhere to put it. if you hadn't bought the ring and had kept the £10 voucher, you could have used it to buy a saucepan as and when you do get a place to live. You have a pair of jeans and four tops, you will cope for now.

Everything is relative. I would have thought, given your circumstances, that this would be a no-brainer. You are practically homeless and saving to get a place (for yourself and child/ren??). Madness to even consider it. Knives & saucepans unnecessary too. Get a roof over your head first and then see what you need just to exist.

Saucepan was a necessity, mum got hers out last night to cook the (cheap) eggs with and it was very rusty. It cost 2.99 in asdas, so wasnt a waste of money and the knives were on offer. I literally have nothing. Just what was in a suitcase, so have no pots, pans etc. Its all very well people saying save for a deposit, but then not have anything to move in with?

I have one pair of jeans, a pair of tracksuit bottoms for the gym, an old worn out hole in bum jeans, if they count. Top wise, i dont have much, live mainly in strappy tops and jumpers, but nothing i could war to a restaurant. Maybe i should borrow for now? I did buy myslef a little thingy to go on the door for mothers day but that was 99p, so not massive and seeing as i didnt get anything last year, though i should this year. My Ex, we were together then, didnt bother, just dumped me at a friends and buggered off to the pub. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! So dont feel bad about that extravagence!
