I posted another thread earlier about my disaster of a Christmas Day.

I just can't do it anymore, looking into the future I can see myself losing everything, my DH, friends, family. I was considering taking myself to a&e this morning because I was such a mess.

I'm absolutely determined to do it this time, so this is day 1.

Please join me.

Really enjoying 0% Heineken too @teaandtoastwithmarmite . Not sure I would have got to day 24 without it!!!!!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/01/2022 10:04

Same here @firefly123 Grin
Day 24 is brilliant- well done!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/01/2022 10:05

Also @firefly123 they do that on tap in my local pub so at least I can have a pint Grin

firefly123 · 23/01/2022 10:08

Wow @teaandtoastwithmarmite - that is good to know! Haven't dared go into a pub yet so great to know they have it.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/01/2022 16:24

@firefly123
I've only seen it there and 0% cobra in a curry house which is really good as I like a beer with a curry. One of my good friends is teetotal so she had it when we went for the curry. This was before I became teetotal (first time I've said that out loud). I truthfully enjoy the AF beers. I don't know about you but I feel people must think I'm trying to kid myself. 4 weeks done today.

firefly123 · 23/01/2022 19:55

Well done you @teaandtoastwithmarmite. Such a great achievement that you have done 4 weeks! Hope everyone else is doing well.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 23/01/2022 20:34

@firefly123 thank you! I haven't had much of a 'challenge' with it so far so I hope o can keep it up. You're doing brilliantly too. How's everyone else?

I love the Heineken, I've tried lots of different 0% beers and this is my fave. I also like Adnams Ghost Ship.

I'm finding the no alcohol ok but I really need to find a new way to deal with feeling low or frustrated. The gym, 'relaxing' baths are not cutting it

justforthis21 · 23/01/2022 23:31

Hi everyone. Day 25 here. I had a good friend staying this weekend - just said "i've given up for January" but tbh the evenings were a bit harder than normal because she was having a glass of wine. I didn't want to have a glass of her wine (chardonnay) but I definitely found it was more triggering than my routine - going to try to get back to that now. Still I was glad I stayed not drinking and was happy to wake up every morning not wondering what I had said to her the night before.

I love 0% heineken and I think it is really helping - makes me feel I am having a treat.

Hope everyone is doing well.

afaloren · 24/01/2022 09:34

Morning everyone. Well done for staying sober @justforthis21 Star

Day 21 here. Three weeks Grin I’m delighted. Had a family get-together yesterday and SIL was aghast that I wasn’t drinking. She said, ‘But now I can’t drink either,’ and of course I said she absolutely could but she pouted and said it’s not the same. But I stuck to my guns!

PlodOnToEnergy · 24/01/2022 13:37

Delurking to say I am finally ready to start Day 1.

firefly123 · 24/01/2022 14:20

Hi @Plodontoenergy so great to have you with us!! Congratulations on Day 1

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 24/01/2022 18:24

Well done @justforthis21 and @afaloren. It's ridiculous how people do that. They can't drink unless you are. My book warned me about that.
Welcome @PlodOnToEnergy Smile

firefly123 · 25/01/2022 17:05

Hello all. Hope everyone is doing well. Can't believe we've nearly made it to end of January. Keep thinking about whether I can continue in February. I hope so, noticed so many benefits, and yet I still miss the wine

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/01/2022 21:26

Evening @firefly123 and everyone else. Just been to my clubbercise class after a week of Covid and feel awesome. Gone straight to bed! I'm definitely continuing. Do you think you would enjoy the wine if you had it?

Bizzywater · 25/01/2022 21:53

I'm continuing into Feb. The times I miss wine are getting less, I think a lot of it was habit.
My mental health is better, I've lost weight, I don't have that awful interrupted sleep... I can't say I'm never going to drink alcohol again but I want to continue for now

firefly123 · 25/01/2022 22:26

Think it's just the thought of wine. Probably wouldn't enjoy that much. I do feel much better too, so must try to remember that going into February. I definitely think I am a better must without alcohol so that spurs me on

firefly123 · 25/01/2022 22:27

*sorry that should be better 'mum'

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/01/2022 22:30

It's good to think of the positives. I struggle with the not having a cold pint on a hot day but I think I could manage with AF beer as even the joy would soon be outlived by the stress of what I said or did etc.

firefly123 · 25/01/2022 22:37

Yes will continue to focus on the positives. Thank you @teaandtoastwithmarmite and to everyone who posts on this thread. It has helped me so much and 26 days AF is somewhere I never thought I could get to.

LynnDaBogTrotter · 26/01/2022 03:16

11 days now for me. Generally great but anxiety is an issue - it’s like I’m feeling feels for the first time in forever….

firefly123 · 26/01/2022 06:25

Yes I am finding my anxiety is still bad too @LynnDaBogTrotter. Certainly eating way too much to cope with the feelings. I really should try to do some exercise as apparently that does help anxiety but I'm just so exhausted after work and then lots to do when I get home. Well done on 11 days AF. - I hope your anxiety starts to get better

afaloren · 26/01/2022 12:17

Day 23 here. I’ve been invited to a cocktail bar on Saturday to celebrate a friend’s birthday. This will be my first big test as they are big drinkers unlike anyone else I’ve socialised with in January. I assume the bar will have mocktails on the menu and if not I’ll stick with tonic or lime and soda. I’m going to drive to give myself an extra layer of protection.

In other news the AF fizz I ordered has been smashed in transit! Dry January will be over by the time the replacement arrives Grin

moochies · 26/01/2022 18:23

I had 1 beer yesterday. Argh I'm cross. Angry
