I posted another thread earlier about my disaster of a Christmas Day.

I just can't do it anymore, looking into the future I can see myself losing everything, my DH, friends, family. I was considering taking myself to a&e this morning because I was such a mess.

I'm absolutely determined to do it this time, so this is day 1.

Please join me.

Morning everybody. Day 14 here Grin thrilled to have made it to two weeks.

I’ve been to the gym and walked the dog. Now a shower and a cup of tea. Wouldn’t normally go to the gym this early as I like to go during the wine witching hour but there was a class I wanted to do.

MissConductUS · 17/01/2022 10:11

What does everyone else have on the agenda today?

It's a bank holiday here, Martin Luther King day. It snowed overnight and is now raining, so the driveway is covered in several inches of wet snow. We'll have to deal with that later.

My son is driving back to uni tomorrow, so today we have to get him packed and organized. My daughter goes back to uni on Saturday, weather allowing.

Such is the mundane life of a sober mom. Grin

LynnDaBogTrotter · 17/01/2022 19:23

Hope everyone is doing ok tonight Flowers

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/01/2022 20:15

@LynnDaBogTrotter I'm at choir. How are you doing?

afaloren · 17/01/2022 20:26

Hi @LynnDaBogTrotter I’m catching up on Throwdown. I’ve ordered some Lyre’s AF fizz today to try, looking forward to it arriving as I do love a glass of bubbles. Really enjoying Fevertree tonics and sodas too. How are you getting on?

Lushmetender · 17/01/2022 23:22

Got my bumps checked. Lipoma on stomach and scar tissue on the end that shall not be named. Let Rip re mums death and dads cancer diagnosis. Dr was so lovely! Dad here tonight so just chatting but he’s lost another 3 lbs. 4 stone in less than a year😟. Anyway good to be sober chatting to him and what he wants in the last weeks. sigh anyway bed time. Dd age 9 is scared to sleep alone ( bloody you tube !).

MinnieJackson · 18/01/2022 07:18

Hi everyone, sorry haven't checked in for a few days, I fell down another websites rabbit hole! Still sober after Fridays 2 pints. Feeling good 👍. Happy sober Tuesday Brew

@Lushmetender Flowers

LynnDaBogTrotter · 18/01/2022 08:50

Morning all, smashing into day three having had the best nights sleep I can remember.
Working at home today so I can enjoy some peace. Love to all

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/01/2022 09:45

Morning all, glad to hear you're all doing well. Sun is shining here Grin

afaloren · 18/01/2022 14:12

You’re doing so well @Lushmetender things sound very hard at the moment Flowers

Day 15 here. Half a month! Starting to think I can actually get through to Feb 4 which will be a whole month. Then I shall reassess and see what I want to aim for next.

justforthis21 · 18/01/2022 18:06

thinking of you Lushmetender.

Day 20 here and still doing well. On the quit-lit front, I finished a good book on kindle Nothing Good Can Come FromThis by Kristi Coulter and am now reading Glorious Rock Bottom by Bryony Gordon. The first one was a series of essays and had a lot of interesting insights.

Good luck everyone. This thread is such a help. afaloren, I am thinking like you. I'm aiming for the whole of January and then I think I'll do the whole of February merging into lent. That should get me to April and close to 100 days. I'm hoping at that point, I will just continue without much thought.

LynnDaBogTrotter · 18/01/2022 18:36

Evening ladies, just out of a lovely swimming session and feeling happy. Hoping for another amazing nights sleep….

Lushmetender · 18/01/2022 19:46

Day 18 - AF fizz getting me through but helps! Working today but really can’t be bothered! Got offered a new job and wasn’t going to take it with situation with dd but they will keep it open for me! Can’t believe it - so I can start in June after shares and bonus. Think I will need a new start!

Bizzywater · 18/01/2022 20:30

@LynnDaBogTrotter
I had a terrible night's sleep again last night after Sunday's drink, so hopeful for sober restful sleep tonight. And I will appreciate it!

I'm on a mega strict diet / PT plan until mid / end of Feb and I'm confident I'll be fine without alcohol. Went to the gym after work to wind down (instead of wine down) .

@Lushmetender it's awful watching someone you love decline. Thanks

afaloren · 18/01/2022 20:47

Ooh thanks @justforthis21 I’ve ordered Glorious Rock Bottom for my kindle. Finished Girl Walks Out Of A Bar (loved it) and still listening to Drinking: A Love Story. I’m working my way through This Naked Mind too, reading a couple of chapters a day as suggested in the book.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/01/2022 22:52

Well done on new job @Lushmetender

afaloren · 19/01/2022 09:07

Morning all. Day 16 here. Very chuffed with that. How is everyone getting on?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/01/2022 09:15

Morning all. Well done @afaloren that's awesome Grin
I'm doing ok thanks. How are you doing? Was in Aldi last night looking to see what non alcoholic beers they did and when I saw the alcohol ones i did feel a bit of a wobble but shook myself. Hope everyone ok. Day 24.

afaloren · 19/01/2022 09:20

24 days is incredible @teaandtoastwithmarmite almost a full month! Star

I wish they’d put the non-alcoholic stuff with the soft drinks instead of in the booze aisle. It’s hard to concentrate with all those bottles winking at you.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/01/2022 10:41

Thank you @afaloren I wish I had done it earlier but we're all doing really well. Yes I agree Grin

Giviningup · 19/01/2022 12:41

Day 6 and feeling fabulous Grin

MinnieJackson · 19/01/2022 15:02

Hi guys. Mil is here before the funeral tomorrow. I think my bil is coming here as well in a bit. Getting a bit anxious. Won't be drinking though today. 2 pints in 19 days, it's been a long time since I've had that little in that amount of time. You're all doing so well! Off to pluck mil's eyebrows and chin hairs now Envy😂 I wish I was joking, bless her.

MissConductUS · 19/01/2022 15:03

It's just lovely to see you all doing so well. Smile

Keep up the great work everyone!

SoberMornings · 19/01/2022 18:33

@MinnieJackson what a good daughter in law you are!

Everyone is doing so well. It's good to see when there is a sort of "tipping point" where the positives of not drinking really start to make themselves felt, and start to become more important than the negatives of not being able to drink - if that makes sense?

@MissConductUS would you mind if I asked you a question? (And sorry if I've missed this in the earlier discussion!) Do you ever go to an AA meeting these days, for yourself? I always wonder if people who get sober with AA keep going with the meetings even if they've been sober for years. I know some go back as sponsors which is awe inspiring. I really don't know a lot about AA but I sometimes wonder if I would have got clean earlier if I had tried AA instead of getting to the point I ended up having to just get on with it myself.

MissConductUS · 19/01/2022 18:53

@SoberMornings, first of course you can ask me a question. That's why I keep an eye on this thread. I haven't been to an AA meeting since I was about seven years sober, so roughly twenty years ago. I had moved house with DH and had young children and just never bothered to find a new AA group to attend. It wouldn't bother me to go, I just feel like I have learned all that AA has to teach me. And I haven't had the slightest desire to drink since before I stopped going, so I don't feel like I need the support myself to stay clean. I am in a very stable sobriety now.

I did sponsor people after the first few years, and sometimes I feel a twinge of guilt that I am no longer "paying it forward" anymore. That's one reason that I try to make myself available here on MN to people who need some support, understanding, and just to show that it really can be done. I think that going to AA may be more stigmatized in the UK than it is in the US. People on MN seem really set on toughing it out on their own, which is okay. But if others are happy to help and support you, why not?

You might well have gotten clean earlier if you had had peer support, but there's really no way of knowing. Feel free to go now if you think it would help. You don't have to be in crisis to join.

Does this answer your question? If not, please elaborate.
