Mine was Prince Caspian.
And my most recent was the King of the Gyptians in The Dark Materials.
Show how I've changed. It used to be a boy King. Now it's a fatherly type.

You mean I'm the only person to fall in love with characters.

Sam Vimes, from the Terry Pratchett books. Wonderful, middle aged and much like my hubby.

Mr Rochester, of course.

Yeah, but surely Sam Vimes can't have been the first fictional love?

I think Mr Rochester was my second

Patrick Pennington

I so so wanted to meet a boy like him but piano-virtuoso-mean-moody-but-gorgeous-and-sexy boys were thin on the ground round my way, for some reason

Second - fraid it was Mr Rochester as well

Oh I don't know who was the first, but I scarcely read a book nowadays without falling in love with a character.

Mr Rochester was an attractive prospect but I didn't read JE until I was quite old so he couldn't have been the first.
