I am working (on a rotation basis) for a few weeks at a North London Health Centre with a small block of flats next door. I have my coffee (and ciggie Blush) near the flats and their carpark. For the last couple of weeks, I have had the company of a beautiful tabby and white gorgeous boy, very vocal. Seen him most days, and the other day noticed he was lying in the small bush whilst it was raining. He immediately came to greet me, and I noticed the bush grass was very flattenend (making me think he was sleeping there) and a small plastic food and water bowl.

A lady came from the flats and said to me "oh, that's X's cat...she has been flooded out of her flat and is in a hotel, and can't take the cat. Someone is feeding him, and he is sleeping in the bush" I was a bit Hmm.

Next day coffee time, I met X. She said she 'inherited' him 3 years ago from the lady at 42, who didn't want him really, and she can't take him to the hotel, she has to come 8 miles every day to feed him, and is upset as he hates sleeping outside in the rain. Her flat is so badly damaged, she doesn't think she can return, and wants to rehome the cat. He's 8 but looks much younger and is well cared for. She mentioned rehoming to original owner, who is not keen, but won't take him back.

This is breaking my heart. I got to work an hour early today, made a shelter from a cardboard box with black bags for rain, with a high plastic cushion and blanket. Brought feeding bowls and food, and I am going to feed him every day (will go on weekends too). He is so miserable and sad looking, and my girl will hate him, as she hates all cats.

Help!!!! What shall I do?

Adopt him & call him George.

I have sat and rolled it over and over and over about adopting him, fluffy.

X said he needs a garden. I have a garden. Crazygirl is a homecat. She doesn't go out. hates other cats. I mean spits and growls through the window at them. X says he is the best cat she has ever had. Out all day...clean and loving...I do so want to take him home. But if I do..I am responsible for him...and if Crazycat hates him? What then? Rehome again? That's letting him down

And...I would call him Stanley anyway

TCN will know what to do. I have an "only cat" too. He's on the windowsill being outraged because another cat walked by Hmm

Hi crazy. I have an 'only cat' too. Sad She hates all other cats. I would give the Cats Protection a ring and see if they can rehome him. He sounds lovely.

Hi Sparkling Smile

He is the most beautiful boy..seriously. A dream pet by the looks.

I am angry at original owner really. Poor X is stressed about having no home/belongings..and is stressing about Stanley. He is like a little homeless hobo. Why do people (original owner) get pets and just abandon them? X told me the original owner just walks past him, but won't allow rehoming? WTF?

I am sat here worrying about him in the rain. He lay in my box in the bush earlier and looked a little more contented, and is woofing down the biscuits I am putting down.

Oh crazy no. Is there any way you can just go and get him? put him in another room or something? the weather forecast is awful. Then ring the cat rescues in the morning?

Oh Sparkling don't...'cos I will. I am in the tiniest flat. I am out 6 hours a day working..will Crazycat terrorise him? Is he owned? Is he abandoned?

Oh God...

I'd second that, crazy. Have you got a spare room/litter tray that can be used for a couple of days for breathing space? It's no weather to live under a bush.

cozietoesie · 23/01/2014 20:01

I'd say he was abandoned, Yes.

Oh sorry crazy don't want to pressure you. Sad I just keep thinking of him in the rain in his cardboard box.

Is it worth trying to ring the cats protection now?

Any friendly (very) neighbours who could help out for a night or two, crazy ? I'm just too far away to give any practical assistance.

Stupid me didn't ask re microchipping,Cozie

I have made the cardboard box as comfy as a cardboard box can be. Covered in waterproofing....high waterproof cushion off the floor with fluffy blanket..not much I know, but had like 20 minutes to sort something.

I was just wondering what would happen if it was chipped to the (so called) owner and how that may affect any rehoming.

Take little Stanley home first so at least he gets warm and fed, and then think about calling the pet charities.

If you ever get round to it - I suspect crazycat gets to decide.

You did well to manage anything at all, crazy. It may make the difference in this weather.
