I'm not grouchy but I'm here and excited for tomorrow! Is Vera on too? If so I'm doing a HV Vera sandwich again where I watch half of Vera, watch HV, then finish Vera whilst bouncing on my gym ball. 3 hours of bouncing. My legs still ache from last Sunday night.

I wonder what will happen at the court hearing?

I'm quite in love with Sarah Lancashire. I've been watching Last Tango In Halifax all week to get my SL/Sally W fix and love it. She's an amazing writer and the actors are brilliant.

alchemies · 21/01/2023 09:49

I've been watching at home with the braithwaites still to get my fix of northern accent and wainwright writing!

Can't wait for tomorrow. 9pm is sooo late!

Ooh I'm grouchy this morning 😫
I did NOT know SW had also written At Home With the Braithwaites, I loved it.

LadyEloise1 · 21/01/2023 10:03

I'm not grouchy. Can I still join this thread please ?

Hels20 · 21/01/2023 10:11

Just to pick up one of themes of last thread - I have just re-watched series 1. I had forgotten half of what TLR had done. I had forgotten he had murdered his partner in crime - Lewis - and then murdered the person whose flat they stayed in after Ann escaped. I also got the feeling he might have murdered the friend of Ryan’s.

not surprised that Catherine felt utterly betrayed by Claire. But she is naive. I had forgotten she had just dropped to Daniel
casually that Catherine and Richard were sleeping again - and then Daniel went ballistic.

RandomersAssociation · 21/01/2023 10:11

Oh, good. The old thread was taking so long to load on my phone and I don’t want to switch to separate pages.

(If I’m grouchy it’s not because of HV. It’s a small point of light in a grim old world.)

CuriousMama · 21/01/2023 10:13

@AutisticLegoLover 3 hours bouncing 😳 How do you concentrate on the TV? Doesn't it affect your vision?

I'm not grouchy but am tired. Been away all week. Chatted to people in the pub last night and the women were obsessed with my accent calling me a Geordie. I'm not but live close to Newcastle. They kept trying to copy me it was hilarious. Funny as dh sounds more like a Geordie to me but they weren't bothered about him?

Anyway it's happy valley day tomorrow. Anyone else feeling tense? For some reason I'm tense. Probably because soon it'll be over. I'm worrying about Ryan. Hope nothing bad happens to him he's so canny.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 21/01/2023 10:13

I've never watched Last Tango, is it upbeat or gritty?

storminabuttercup · 21/01/2023 10:21

Checking in.

Thank you for starting a new thread

longwayoff · 21/01/2023 10:26

I'm always grouchy, standard operating mode for me. Sorry to hear about your leg, blondes, speedy recovery to you.

Pooskidsonthefrock · 21/01/2023 10:39

So excited for tomorrow 😅

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/01/2023 10:42

@longwayoff thank you

@Hels20 this week while laid up I've been rewatching s1&2

Had forgotten lots and it all started coz accountant wanted to send his daughters to private school and asked for a payrise which he didn't get

Hence planned the kidnapping

Ans yes Tommy won't be released ever for his crimes so escaping is his only method

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/01/2023 11:18

Place mark.

End of last thread went a bit weird?

Sorry about the injury Blondes Sad. But your 5 year old sounds fabulous!

EsmaCannonball · 21/01/2023 11:26

I've started watching Last Tango In Halifax for the first time and am partway through the second series. I love Caroline (Sarah Lancashire) but am finding Gillian (Nicola Walker) kind of unpleasant and frustrating. She just seems to lurch unthinkingly from mess to mess and to be really rude to everyone along the way. Caroline is so together and I'm loving her getting to a stage in life where she's no longer going to take shit from anybody.

Tulipp · 21/01/2023 11:31

'I had forgotten he had murdered his partner in crime - Lewis - and then murdered the person whose flat they stayed in'

I always thought Lewis and Brett's murders were a bit unnecessary to the storyline. Series 1 was so good but eps 5 and 6 went a bit daft.

Who would have let a young, vulnerable child walk home alone when a nutter was on the loose. Not just any nutter but one who was obsessed with said child.

Gentle and poignant.

Some very moving bits, some humorous ones.

Well acted and involving, though - you find yourself really caring about the characters. (Well - I did)

Emotionalsupportviper · 21/01/2023 11:43

Oh - thank you for the thread @alchemies - pardon my manners for not saying so sooner.

Hels20 · 21/01/2023 11:52

@Tulipp - I agree about why on earth Catherine would let Ryan walk home when TLR was still free but I do think it plausible that a psychopath would kill Lewis.

do we only have Catherine’s word that Becky was raped by TLR? Is it possible that the sex was consensual but that Becky knew Catherine would go mad with her. She was obviously going through a difficult period. Does series 2 give info on why Daniel split from his wife?

Hels20 · 21/01/2023 11:52

Lewis was losing his nerve and therefore becoming a liability.

I rewatched the first two series recently because I needed reminding of storylines. I didn't find the murder of Lewis unnecessary as TLR had reason for believing that Lewis was going to betray him, and the other guy went to pieces when he realised TLR had cut Lewis's throat. However, allowing a little 8 year old with discipline problems to travel home from school on his own just when his homicidal rapist psychopathic on-the-run father has decided to take an interest in him seemed totally unlikely and completely out-of-character for Catherine. It was so obviously done to enable the plot.

HannaHat · 21/01/2023 12:01

Catherine says in series 1 that Becky wrote TLR's name down, that's how she knew it was him. We also know that he is a rapist.
I like the fact the details around her death are ambiguous really.
I agree about Ryan walking home, they're not allowed to leave alone until the final year in primary school around here (local to Happy Valley).
