Need to up my "dressing for breakfast on holiday " game

We're off to Sorrento this summer (first abroad jaunt since before covid) and whilst not a posh place it's a bit smarter than our usual AI choice hotel.

We'll be either lazing by the pool or going into town for a walk by day, the odd trip so whilst not a dressy holiday per say I think I need something more substantial than a floaty dress over a bikini for breakfast kind of outfit.

I'm still thinking dresses as they are easy and if I choose carefully will suit different parts of the day and activities.

Can anyone recommend some good online places to look, probably top budget of £40ish. Also easy free returns a must - Cupshe have some lovely things but their returns aren't free for example.

Really need ideas as I'm going to be around chic Italians Confused

I have a selection of 'breakfast dresses' for this very purpose!

Usually just jersey dresses from Dorothy Perkins or M&S - long T shirt dress usually!

I start with maxi's but they tend to get a bit shorter as I get some colour to my legs!

I can't recommend any specific ones because it's a while sine I went away'

Sometimes in summer at home I get up & put one - one on & my husband always says you've got a breakfast dress on! 🤣

Glad I not alone in having this as a thing!

In Italy brits are there to admire, not compete 🇮🇹😂 Fruitless mission I've found. I'm a big fan of the summer/beach trouser, which can look pretty chic if they have pockets to put a hand in. Straw hat, sunglasses, you're basically Gina Lollobrigida.

I, too , have a selection of these for holiday .
I refreshed mine last year from Marks and Spencer and H and M , one spendy one from Toast. I generally only wear them on holiday
PrevIously I had couple of Boden ones, and the ubiquitous Next linen mix shirt. The latter feel dated now. I might still wear the Boden ones if I could get into them pre comfortably. 😕
agree re starting off maxi length and working up.

Next shift not shirt.

Nicola Sturgeon has ruined that look for me

Broderie Anglaise in a light colour is perfect for hotel breakfast. Also nice sunglasses and bag.

You don't NEED to "up your game" though, do you?

You want to put more effort in than most of us can be bothered, which is a bit different.

I’m finding a lot on simply be/fashion world. Prices from £25ish to £45 for lovely dresses and jumpsuits/play suits suitable as cover ups and also popping out for the day

These M&S swing dresses might fit the bill. Free returns too.

Ooh I like the shape of those

Now I love that, plain black is definitely what I'm imagining with my (still to find) hessian type bag, slides and sunnies!

I'd normally just wear a sheer dress over a bikini but we're staying in a small bit chic hotel and I've a feeling seeing ones swimmers through their clothes isn't the done thing Grin

I think I'm just on a mission to smarten up my holiday look a bit. Not quite a capsule wardrobe but aspiring towards!

I think you might neeeed this … H&M dress

Came back to this thread to say I bought this yesterday and it's really lovely. It's VERY generous, so even though the idea is to be floaty anyone might want to size down.

Also found in Primark of all places a black Lagenlook type dress in parachute material WITH POCKETS.

So that's my breakfast game sorted for my holiday in June. Grin

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 13/04/2023 10:18

Ok I'm off to my local out of town shopping place today and I tend to pop into -

H .& M
Primark
M and S

If I can bag x 3 I'll be chuffed 😊

I wouldn’t go for a walk in the day round a town in a sheer dress over a bikini, though!

I’d wear the same sort of little dresses I’d go out in the day in, to wear for breakfast.

TheFormidableMrsC · 13/04/2023 11:18

I'd definitely go to Primark, my branch is awash with floaty beach things currently. Kaftan type dresses. It's also cheap.
