Kate's wedding dress

Was wondering if anyone would like to join me in a chat about Kate's dress. Most people seem to think she'll be walking down the aisle in something silky and slinky but I don't think this would be appropriate for the abbey, I was thinking there might be quite a bit of lace involved.

Oooo, sorry, not really too excited about the wedding. Will watch it but frankly, "we" (the tax payers) can't afford it.

The pair of them are annoying me at the moment with their "tour of the poor" to drum up some enthusiasm but to me, it's all misplaced. Every time they step over the doorstep, it costs a fortune in security!!

My DH was made redundant last year. He's back in employment now but for a time there, I thought we might everything we had so, personally, I don't care what she wears.

wendihouse22 · 13/04/2011 17:18

Should read........Lose everything we had.

DarrellRivers · 13/04/2011 17:19

Don't think OP was quite asking for that opinion wendihouse22 Grin
Perhaps aiming for a lighthearted S&B thread about the dress methinks

HippyHippopotamus · 13/04/2011 17:20

her dress is the only bit i am interested in!

UrsulaBuffay · 13/04/2011 17:21

To be fair we are in s&b here!

tulpe · 13/04/2011 17:46

She has become so thin recently that I'm not sure she would look good in either super slinky or meringue-esque proportions.

Given her recent style make-over, I reckon she will go for something very traditional - high neck, sleeves, lace overlay etc.

Have to say though that whilst I am happy to talk style, she does make my teeth itch. I am aware that IABU about this but something about her gets right on my wick!

wendihouse22 · 13/04/2011 20:27

Yes, of course.....I MUST try to enter in to the spirit!!

I reckon something traditional. Long sleeves and simple design.....nothing OTT and "toilet roll holder - esque"

I suspect William will be sporting his medals. Um, from which campaign of active service might they be from, I wonder? Oh FFS, I'm at it again!

Gets dragged from the room with her knitting (reference French Revolution).

LadyWord · 13/04/2011 20:39

I think it's definitely not going to be a big flouncy one... it will be fitted, sleek and classic but not silky methinks. Lacy in a classy, vintagey way maybe. Or embroidered/beaded.

I like a bit of dress anticipation but I agree with you tulpe, she is slightly annoying. She's very, very thin which I don't have an issue with in itself, but to be openly "losing weight for her wedding" when she's that thin to start with is setting a terrible example. There's no dress that would look better on her for being even thinner.

OTOH she's in a very tough position. She seems a bit meh at the moment but that's probably a wise decision. I hope she becomes more feisty and interesting after.

drivingmissdaisy · 13/04/2011 20:49

I can't imagine the pressure she must be under, after all it is going to one of the most talked about wedding dresses of the century. Am dying to see it, I hope it wont be too boring as she does seem to play on the safe side of things. Although her hair is her crowning glory I hope she'll wear it up. But then again if she wears it up it might highlight how thin she's gotten.

OP posts:
tulpe · 13/04/2011 20:54

wendihouse22 - I have absolute empathy with you! Am trying to give a toss but actually, no, I don't!

LadyWord - I don't think she'll change after the wedding. She has been a princess in waiting too long. I think one of the things which bugs me about her is this sense of desperation (I have no real evidence obviously! just a sense of it). So I think she will be "a good girl" and tow the line absolutely and not dare to do anything interesting or different.

forehead · 13/04/2011 20:54

She seems to be a very nice girl,a bit bland but nice.
I think she'll wear a long sleeved dress with flared sleeves and a sweet heart neck line. I think it will be slightly figure hugging . A bit Elizabethan.
She is a bit thin, but most brides lose weight before their wedding.
I also find her slightly annoying tbh .

wendihouse22 · 13/04/2011 21:08

Different or interesting? I doubt very much the Windsors will let her be either of those. She has been vetted and found acceptable. She will tow the line.

Diana wouldn't. Look what happened there.

Sorry, I'll dip out of this thread now. I'm 48 years old and was 19 or so when Charles and Di wed. It was so exciting and I swallowed it all. The fairy tale, the love match stuff. I'm getting old and jaded, methinks. There's a sense of "here we go again" about it all, for me.

No one was as utterly lovely as the 19yr old Lady Diana Spencer and our Royal family ruined her.

childishiknow · 13/04/2011 21:14

We are not paying for the wedding. Charles and the Queen are. As was made aware to the public when the engagement was first announced.

As for dress, as long as it isn't like the monster Diana wore, I am sure she will look beautiful.

I hope she doesn't do something daft with her hair as that is a beautiful feature.

ThatVikRinA22 · 13/04/2011 21:16

i think it will be a very simple elegant dress - short sleeved i think, a bit 'bronte'
with simple accessories.

no frills, dont think it will be lacey - if it is it will be antique - perhaps beaded or embroidered but nothing frilly.

ive thought about it for all of 30 seconds!

DreamsInBinary · 13/04/2011 21:20

Oh, I'm rather hoping she'll go long and slinky with no lace at all.

She is thin, but no thinner than a standard catwalk model, surely?

wendihouse22 · 13/04/2011 21:37

Yes, of course, The Queen and Prince Charles are paying for the wedding.

It is estimated that we, the people, will pay somewhere in the region of £20 million pounds in additional security costs.

Enough said in these cash strapped times.

HarryDan · 13/04/2011 21:52

i don;t really care much about the wedding, will probably go to a street party though as DDs are at a nice age to get excited by it!

I do like the extra bank holiday though and can't wait to see the dress :)

Optimism - that dress is gorgeous! there is a kind of 60's vibe going on there.
I don't think Kate will wear that sort of thing though - something relatively slinky, yes, but with lace and frippery.

SugarSkyHigh · 13/04/2011 22:52

there's no way Kate will wear a diana style meringue - she's got D's ring and so won't want to emulate the dress, even if it were still in fashion (which it definitely isn't).

wendihouse22 · 14/04/2011 09:28

Ok ok, point taken!!!

Optimism.....that is a beautiful dress. She's slender enough to wear it, too! Post it to her (Kate's) mum.....there's still time !
