I have been a devoted listener for a fair few years. I have cried, cheered, and giggled through various ups and downs.
But I am now finding it so depressing. With the current episodic storylines - which are all quite unpleasant - you no longer get that lovely feeling that you are eavesdropping on a community that you would quite like to live in.
It just feels a bit nasty. It also feels a bit like Eastenders.
It feels ridiculous to be sad, but the good people of Ambridge have been my companions all the way through having very young children. They felt like friends when I hadn't had. Grown up conversation all day.
Hopefully this will pass and I can come back when they' ve finished mucking it up.
Mummytime - I thought there was a lot of algae also involved?
I have to say, listening yesterday I decided that it's not so bad being with a convicted fraudster who's obsessed with whisking you to New York and buying you new coats.
Anyone else think Paul might turn out to be married?
well according to the bit at the end of PM this evening they're all going to be vapourised tomorrow - but only if the world ends, nothing short of that will cause the demise of The Archers.
Maybe they will kill off half the cast in a carbon dioxide tragedy like the one in Cameroon in the eighties? Although, that involved a volcano, maybe a bit far fetched to have a hidden Volcano under the Am?
My ears are exploding from hearing the BBC philharmonic play the theme tune. Deeply wrong.
Lillian and Paul - blecccchh!
Am absolutely certain Paul would be a feathery-stroker.
Tiger is much more ... tigerish
Its Matt being nice and considerate which is making me feel uneasy.
Lillian nearly got caught - lucky for her Vicki is baby-brained at the moment...reckon Matt will discover the receipt for the cufflinks on xmas day?
I think if I have to listen to Lillian and Paul any more I'm going to need to buy more buckets. Please someone make it stop...
>Carbon dioxide is OK
(unless there's waaay too much like in Apollo 13 but that's probably beyond The Archer's range
)
I love the phrase 'boiler trailer' for a trailer about someone getting bunny-boilerish.
Lets hope for many, many boiler trailers over Christmas and New Year.
Carbon monoxde is the bad / boiler one.
Carbon dioxide is OK: it's what we produce by respiration, and the plants take in for photosynthesis.
<showing off now>
So what do I mean then?
The one where boilers poison people? Is that monoxide or dioxide?
I am feeling pretty
myself now
Oh, sorry, MrsDeVere.
I am feeling very confused here.
You wrote something and then Grimma mentioned carbon dioxide and my mind jumped to carbon monoxide.
Except, on re-reading, I realise that you were going on about gas poisoning all along.<thunk> I read something about a "co2 story" and thought it was some new-fangled meedja term for a story that crosses over from the offshoot soap (the co-soap, or soap2). Likewise, a "boiler trailer" is, um, a trailer about upcoming bunny-boilerishness?
I don't know! It made sense this morning. <goes for a lie-down>
Whilst I'm at it: who is Jennifer Canesten? do I really want to know this?
Are the Horrobins becoming like the Star Trek 'red-shirted guy you've never seen before in the landing party' - a supply of people who can be killed off or sent to jail whenever the plot demands it?
Annnny hooo
Didn't someone offer to put a boiler in for the Horribin's wife? I heard it on trailer. Now that has to be a set up for a CO story doesn't it?
Oh yeah wot evah
Carbon monoxide smartarse chemist type

Indeed, 10 points to R4 and a couple more for knowing the difference between CO2 and CO <chemistry pedant, but its important>
PS Grimma we have already had a carbon dioxide story - it's a by-product of the anaerobic digester.
Ten points to me!
ooh yes R4, that nasty bastard Will going to prison and killing off the unbearably smug Tom into the bargain. Genius!
I was pleased to hear Will being brought down a peg by Eddie on last night's edition.
I don't mind the vast majority of characters on TA but Will, Tom and Shula really make my teeth itch.
"I can't imagine a story about carbon dioxide"
Oooh, there's a new story...
Matt installs Joyce in her new flat: he spends money on minor items like grab-rails but, true to type, skimps on major items eg proper fitting of fire and/or boiler and Joyce dies of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Actually, change that. Can Tom be the tenant who dies of CO poisoning and Willyum be the prosecuted landlord. Result!
>Is there going to be a co2 story in Amex?
A what?
<as a chemist I can't imagine a story about carbon dioxide so it must mean something else>
Did anyone notice that Lillian and Paul are going shopping in Cheltenham, and Mike is taking Vicki to Cheltenham, ON THE SAME DAY!!!! The made it so obvious, they must be going to meet.
Right, some random thoughts here:
I know it's wrong, but I love Lillian and paul. The archers is great when it does infidelity IMO.
I want nic and emma to become besties and cackle drunkenly together about the shortcomings of william's sexual technics.
What happened to Amy? Is it me or did that storyline just END really abruptly?
What is with this thing of signalling people bonding and having a meaningful conversation together by the overuse of 'you know?' ? FUCK OFF YOU ARE ANNOYING. everyone from the old gimmers to the young teens is bloody at it. "Oh I love Christmas lights, you know? Reminds me of when this very personal and special important memory happened, you know?" STOP. IT.
It sounds like Elizabeth is going to get it on with ifti, yes. Poor old unlucky in love Kirsty, she is like the Jennifer canesten of ambridge.
Is there going to be a co2 story in Amex? They are doing one in corrie tsk, tsk.
I just heard a boiler trailer.
Are Elizabeth and Iftikar going to get together?
I need to know....
