Pregnancy

Seriously, is it possible to be pregnant and not realise?

Am just asking as I have felt shite for 2 months now, an exhausted, my tummy is fluttering (feels just like baby wrggling and kicking) and I have continual mild abdominal ache along with a lot of pressure and a bit of swelling of my ladybits! Boobs not sore though, like previous 2 pregnancies.

However, I have had very normal periods since DH and I managed to actually get the time to jump on each other, that would be back in January!

What could it be?
I haven't done a test, mainly because I am shite scared, I have been lo-carbing for 3 months and lost 2 stone so if I am indeed pregnant I have messed up majorly!

just do a test, and let us know, really there is no other way to find out!!

if you've been losing alot of weight you and following an unusual diet then it could simply be a mix of your body readjusting and excess wind due to more fruit and veg.

but i'd still do a test for peace of mind.

I was 8/10 weeks before i realised with ds1.... no period since having dd and wasn't expecting to get pregnant so quickly

My friend's sister didn't know she was pregnant until she gave birth- had normal periods all the way through, and just thought she had put on a bit of weight; no bump

Sorry, not what you want to hear... do a test. I'm sure baby- if it exists- will be fine

Unless you've been replacing carbohydrates with platefuls of liver (and maybe some cocaine) you probably haven't hurt the hypothetical baby. Go take a test. It is possible to be pregnant and not realise.

I know of two people who didn't know. One was a girl who gave birth in the school toilets (I kid you not) and the other was someone at work who was on holiday abroad at the time.

Scary! Do a test!

Yep - I know someone who went to the hospital with severe stomach cramps and was directed straight to the labour ward -- she had no idea! She was, however, obese and had chaotic hygiene and irregular periods, so it wasn't too hard to understand why she hadn't known.

other than the lack of periods I have no other symptoms at the minute and I'm 10wks now - do a test!!!!

Not doing a test because you are scared of it being positive isn't going to change the situation if you are pregnant.

Could well just be the effects of lowcarbing no?

It may well be the effects of lowcarbing, yes. Though how it makes your tummy flutter and feel rubbishbi dunno! felt fine last time! and just realised I have had lots of migraines too. Like when I was pg.
Just didn't feel this shite last time I did the diet 5 years ago pre-kids!

correct me if I am wrong, but is it not said that even with second or subsequent pregnancies, movement is not usually felt until aroun 16 weeks?

I'm always intrigued by stories of people who didn't know till they were in labour or close to it. I know it happens; my mother's best friend didn't know till she was 7 months, she was on the pill and getting her periods, it was only when my mother said err, that's not random weight gain, that's a bump, that she gave in.

But what on earth would you think the baby moving was, near the end? It's not just flutters and bumps then, it's a pretty unmistakable feeling of a person kicking you and punching you.

And wouldn't you have some other symptoms? Breasts getting bigger, darker aureolae, linea nigra, needing to wee every 1.43 seconds, insomnia, I mean I had a pretty uneventful pregnancy but it was like nothing else ever.

I agree totally with tortoise and I wonder if it's at some psychological level the woman is blocking the feelings & physical sensations.

To put it mildly, I'd have been along to A&E had I not known I was pregnant. My abdomen visibly MOVES.

I am very sceptical about those who claim not to have know until the end and raised it with my midwife who told her cousin had "done it" - she rolled her eyes as she said it.

I know of a woman who went into a&e with suspected appendicitis and her dd is about 3 now. However, she was in her late forties and thought she was going through menopause, I think that's understandable. Though doesn't mistake the undeniable movement that goes on in there.

My sister didn't know she was pregnant until 5 months because she had PCOS and hardly had any periods. Another friend had periods for 5 months then discovered she was pregnant, but sadly miscarried a few days later.
Locarbing is not exactly a healthy diet so it may well affect your health/stomach.

I was as sceptical as you skihorse, until my friend's sister gave birth without knowing she was pregnant... she says she felt no movement at all; the first she felt was stomach cramps which turned out to be contractions. She thought she had food poisoning. She went paintballing the day before she gave birth.

She is extremely down to earth, and if you met her you would know she didn't pull a fast one; even she was sceptical of 'surprise' births until it happened to her...

She didn't get any skin darkening? Or weight gain? No baby movements at all? Her hair didn't change consistency and her bladder didn't weaken?

As I said above, I do believe that it happens. I just cannot understand it. A completely asymptomatic pregnancy. Cor.

I'd be so sad if that happened to me. Not to mention shocked, obviously. But I'd grieve for the lost experience, I think.
