Can a Clear Blue Digital Pregnancy Test give a false negative?

Right here it goes...

So I was due on 12th July and my periods are normally regular. I had unprotected sex on the 29th June to which I've researched and turns out I was most likely ovulating between 25h-30th June. So this is why I've tested quite early...

I done a test yesterday - Boots own brand and it came back with an unclear result. It had what I could make out to be a very very very faint line. So I decided to take a Clear Blue Digital test today which came back 'Not Pregnant'. However I'm not convinced, as I just feel I might be... If that makes sense to anyone?

Is there any chance or has anyone ever used Clear Blue and been given a false negative?
I'm going to re-test in a few days anyway if my period hasn't come but I just wanted to know if it was possible.

I have, then tested the next day and got a positive. Best to leave it a couple of days really but when it is there its hard not to do it Hmm it could just be too soon. Good luck x

As far as I'm aware you can get false negatives but never a false positive.

Sounds strange that you're normally regular and are 3 days late. Maybe wait a couple of days and test again? If you continue to get negative results and no period I'd see a doctor.

I haven't had a false negative on clearblue digital specifically but it's definitely possible. Clearblue digitals aren't as sensitive as some of the cheaper brands - think they trigger a 'pregnant' result with an HCG measure of 50 whereas cheaper 'line' brands trigger a result at 10 or 20. So worth waiting a day or two, and re-testing using first morning wee. Could be that your levels are not yet high enough to trigger a positive result on the digital.

Yes. You can't get a false positive. It you need to have a high enough concentration of the hormone in the wee to trigger a positive.

I'm weird, I don't get positives until at least six weeks, even on blood tests. I'm always negative for sugar in urine despite being diabetic too.

Wait a few days and test again.

I got a false negative with a clearblue digital test. I tested with a Superdrug cheapie then the next day got a negative with clearblue. I finally got a positive 5 days later with a clearblue.

Sounds like you're pregnant. Congratulations.

Sorry - should have said tested positive with a Superdrug cheapie.

I don't think those tests are very sensitive. I got a negative at the same time as getting very faint lines on other tests. I then got a good line the next day with First Response. If you want to do another test ASAP you could try in the morning with a First Response or similar.

I would definitely try a First Response test. I had false negatives on clear blue. Also, make sure you use the first wee of the day! If it is diluted too much, you are more likely to get false negatives. Good luck!

Yes, they can. I haven;t had regular periods since having DS over 2 years ago but did a CB Digital test the day before I was due to go on holiday back in February as I wasn't feeling 100%: Not Pregnant. Three days in I tested again as I was doing a spa session the next day: Pregnant 3 Weeks +. I was 6 weeks pregnant!

Yes you can get false negatives. Test again in a few days if you can bear to wait that long. Good luck.

Thanks everyone! You've all made me feel better and like I'm not just going crazy! Y'know when you just know? I've got another test to take so I'm gonna try my hardest to drag it out til the end of the week and I'll see what happens!

Yes, definately. I got a positives on cheaply strips on the Friday, positive first response on the Saturday and finally a positive clearblue digi on the Sunday. The digi was negative the previous 2 days and took ages to come up on the Sunday, I was about to give it up as a bad job!
I'm now 10w.

Yes, definitely.

Got a faint line on a superdrug line test. Took 3/4 days to get a "pregnant" on a clear blue digi.

Okay so I've been really confused. I went to the health department got a pregnacy done it was postive then I go buy a dollar tree test negitive then I go to a different health clinic and get negative and then a couple weeks later I got clearblue I took one of them with my first pee and still negative. I have been having symptoms from morning sickness to showing. And I haven't had a period since March 2014.

I was pregnant and got a false negative with clearblue. For the poster above, I would recommend going for a blood test which will be more accurate earlier than a pregnancy test.

So I had 3 children in my first marriage so I would think I would notice signs of pregnabcy. ClearBlue just gave me a negative. But I am showing multiple signs such as fatigue slight show..and most of all no period or pms symptoms..what do you guys think? More time and a diff brand test?

This thread is 3 years old so I suspect the OP knows if she was pregnant or not by now Wink

Carlas37 I had negatives from ClearBlue and positives from First Response. The CB tests aren't as sensitive.
