Couch to 5k 2011 Part Four: Post even if you haven't run!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/10/2011 21:42

Yet more space for us to talk about our progress on the Couch to 5K programme, the stuff we wear, the music we listen to, the gadgets we use and our nail varnish.

New runners are warmly welcomed - come and give it a whirl, you know you want to! There has been a lot of success on this thread, both in the UK and internationally, moral support is abundant, and there is always a kick up the arse for anyone who needs one!

Some of us are on our second time round now, so don't worry that you will be behind, just jump in whatever stage you are at.

Grin What do you mean, haven't run? How VERY dare you!

Well done starting the new thread WhoKnows! Thanks

Linzer glad you liked my Pinterest Museum of Childhood, thanks for looking at it. Imagine you having the Twinkle too! If I spent as much time out there running as I am spending on Pinterest, I'd look like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=jessica+ennis+running&num=10&um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&channel=s&biw=1024&bih=407&tbm=isch&tbnid=i0Du-nyuYqZ6sM:&imgrefurl=www.andyhoughton.com/JessicaEnnis-800m.html&docid=uaA4TFSHnIhI4M&imgurl=www.andyhoughton.com/images/Jessica%252520Ennis%252520800m%252520Full%252520Sized.jpg&w=423&h=600&ei=ETufTprPEMKQ8QOFpamvCQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=82&vpy=129&dur=355&hovh=79&hovw=55&tx=96&ty=125&sig=101999652086835422060&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=79&tbnw=55&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0" rel="nofollow noindex" target="_blank">her.

But I don't.

I was listening to Who Knows Where The Time Goes by Eva Cassidy only yesterday. Is that your song WhoKnows? Tis luffly.

Hello All! Glad I caught up with you!

Hope you're all doing well and having some nice sessions.

Done Wk5R1 and really not too bad.Think it's coz I know I musn't moan at that when I'm facing a straight 20 min run at the end of the week.

'fraid I didn't get round to the Halloween nail varnish yet - instead I did gardening instead and put indelible grubby black marks down the edges.Even swimming (a mile) on Sunday didn't shift it.Nice look!

Same song, different singer (Sandy Denny). I like Eva Cassidy too, didn't know she had done a version of it

Still prefer .

But I LOVE this

W5R1 for me too today Babycham. Went better than I was expecting, having had 10 days break before my Monday run.

No hallowe'en nail varnish here either. I know I said I would go on to my winter brights, but this week I am wearing Biscuit by Next Biscuit. Which was free on Easy Living this month. I can't decide whether it is tres chic or makes me look as though I have dead fingers, in which case it's quite Hallowe'en appropriate.

Mmmmnnn - similar to the (now) very chipped nail varnish I have on.Tres chic methinks.

I was meant to do R2 today but had to go to Parents eve.So now it's R2 tomorrow and the scary R3 on Friday which is not ideal.

Must introduce some weights too.Went on a STUPID body fat machine on Sunday and it told me I'm 37% fat.NOT impressed.STUPID machine.....

NellVarnishedInAPuffOfSmoke · 19/10/2011 23:38

STUPID STUPID machine indeed. Ingore. Ignore. Ignore. It probably meant 3.7%. Lean machine, countess, lean machine.

Your 20min run will be fine, you wait and see. When I did it last time I was SO excited about having run for 20 mins I didn't shut up about it for weeks, and told everyone from my boss to the milkman. PRSP. Can't beat it. I NEVER thought I'd be able to do it, but I did and looking back it amazes me that I managed it. Just wish I could get that mindset back.

WhoKnows, I'd never heard the other version, I likey. It appeals to my inner hippy. Love Wade In The Water too, and of course Fields of Gold makes me cry. Do you like ? I heart them so much. Oh and I LOVE .

Your nails are tres, tres chic. The biscuity colour is tres gorgeoise and I might buy it tomorrow. Mine are bright red, like blood. Tis not a good look on my hands and it's coming off tonmorrow as I have procured a most delicioso OPI Teal from a certain sweaty coyote and that will be gracing my nails instead.

Have dusted off my New Balance's in honour of the Bright Shiny New Thread.

They are glaring at me. Menacingly.

Go Nell, Go Nell! Last week I was wearing Double Decker Red felt a bit self conscious as it is so bright but I liked it. Clashed with a lot of my clothes though. A warning about the Biscuit one, it is so thick it is hard to get on evenly.

Thanks for the new thread, WhoKnows. I particularly like the title, which means I can post without feeling guilty. Grin Love the nail polish colour - wonder if I'll still be able to get it when I'm over (I shall be stocking up on magazines as usual, so am hoping for at least one free nail varnish Grin).

babycham 20 minutes may sound scary (I was petrified beforehand), but you can do it! IIRC you're running for 20 minutes by that stage already, just not all in one go; I found keeping that in mind definitely helped.

Nell And Jackie too! That was the highlight of my week (I used to love Cathy and Claire). At least you have something to show for the time you haven't spent running - your Pinterest site looks fab. I'm not sure I could justify the time on top of MN and FB, but maybe once work has calmed down a bit... (But would you really want to look like that runner? She looks scarily muscly to untoned me.)

It's getting towards hat-and-glove-wearing-weather here (it's been 0° for the school run the last few mornings, and snow is forecast for today), but I have yet to show off try out my new purple hat and sadly-not-purple gloves. Definitely need some purple nails again too.

WhoKnows I feel self-conscious wearing anything but the palest pink, as no one here seems to wear nail varnish.

Jessica Ennis is a bit too muscly.

Pinterest - Linzer aww go on, you know you want to thanks for saying you like my boards, I remember Cathy and Claire all too well. :) BUT I have made FOUR things this week. My children are unfed and my house is like a midden, but I have MADE things but it is half term so that's my excuse. I can send you an invite if you like ...

Thanks for the heads up on the thick nail varnish WhoKnows, I don't like it when it goes on all unevenly. at it clashing with your clothes - that's exactly what I've been saying this week - it just seems such a Shock when I look down at my fingers! But it's striking, I'll say that. Mine is this one, but I like yours too.

Happy running everyone!

Hi - have just joined another couch to 5k thread - is this a rival???? I've just done week5R2 and also terrified of doing the 20mins later this week....

Hi stranded, nice to see you again. Smile Hope non-stranded life is good.

I think this is the longer-running thread, but I've only been on it since the summer so am a relative newcomer. It's been great, though; everyone is very encouraging and having to report back to the thread has often motivated me to get out when I'm sure I wouldn't have gone otherwise.

Don't be terrified of the 20 minute run; if I can do it, anyone can! I could barely run for a minute when I started C25k back in April, so the sense of achievement you get when you manage to run for 20 minutes non-stop is amazing. And like I said further up, you'll have already run for 20 minutes - albeit with breaks - it's just joining all three(?) runs together.

Nell I know, I know! And I feel even more lazy now that you've been making things too. Well, I have been working hard but somehow that doesn't seem to count. We should make a deal: I'll join Pinterest if you join FB. Grin We miss your contributions to the nail varnish chat!

Kristina Mine are too. Well, apart from this OPI nail strengthening thing, which had better work. Grin

Well, I know I'm overweight/obese, I don't need a machine to tell me Sad. However I am at least fitter than I was. I started measuring my resting heartrate before I began the C25k earlier in the year, it was 83, down to 70 now, I'm really pleased about that. Planning to run tomorrow.

As for nails, I find I can wear most colours so long as I keep my nails short and rounded, my hands don't don't suit the squared off shape at all. I tend to reserve the green/blue types for toes, but am frequently to be found with the dark shades on my fingers in winter (purple, black etc). I've got a black pearl one from Rimmel that I love. I never had the confidence for these when I was younger but it is a very mainstream look in my age group (40s) now, so I don't feel self conscious. You don't see so many with brights though, that mainly seems to be younger women. Linzer - maybe you could be a trendsetter in Austria with dark nails?

Glad to see so many of you have found your way over from the other thread. Stranded there are several C25K threads, I randomly picked this one about 6 months ago and stayed. 'Tis nice here!

KristinaM thank you for making me feel a little better.Sadly I am on the chunky side of chubbly at the mo.But that STUPID machine was just plain NASTY!!!

WhoKnows what am I supposed to be aiming for when it comes to heart rate?

Thank you for the 20 min run encouragement everyone! It's good to know there's a few of us at the same place.I did Wk5 R2 today and really wasn't too bad except the last 2 mins of the second 8 min session which was on an uphill.Every 10 secs seemed to last a minute (but I'm a determined little bugger).

I'm going to be so excited IF I manage the 20 mins tomorrow.Like you Nell I'm sure I'll tell everyone.I haven't run for 20 mins straight for over 20 years!

Enjoy your running everyone Smile

Babycham - I think it depends on your age, I googled it and found that 83 was about at the limit for my age when you really need to start doing something about it. IYSWIM.
