Does anyone find problems with aldi fruit and veg going off?

I keep it in the fridge but some of it is off almost right away especially carrots.

No, I've had Aldi carrots in the fridge for at least a week and they are still fine. In general I find their fruit and veg to be good quality, at least comparable with Tesco and Sainsbury (but loads cheaper!)

I find it can be a problem, especially carrots and broccoli. I wonder if get sell it cheap because they buy it close to sell by date so it has a lower wholesale price. It doesn't put me off Aldi, I am a regular shopper, but if don't tend to buy enough veg to last the week there now, as found I was throwing it away more often than using it.

No problems here either, though admittedly we get thru loads of fruit and veg so I end up buying it twice a week, I don't think it's here long enough to go off.

Yes, in fact I never buy fresh fruit or veg in LIDL or Aldi unless it's super cheap, and I'll be using it that day.

I might risk it for squash or cabbage, but otherwise it's a nightmare.

They had crates of strawberries and grapes last year that were sprouting funky mould before my very eyes.

Yes I've found it doesn't keep so well - grapes especially. Only thing I don't likes about shopping there!

Yes. I never buy fruit and veg from them any more because the keeping qualities are rubbish. I think they buy their fruit and veg just before it is meant to be eaten to keep the price down.

Ah not just me then. I find the carrots are ever so slightly sweaty when I buy them and next thing I know slimy.

I wondered if they were not storing them very effectively.

Does anyone have any kind of food saver/preserver thing in their Fridge?

Yes. Most of it goes off in record time. Crap quality.

It's one of the (many) reasons I don't shop in Aldi.

I buy onions, aubergines (when cheap), mushrooms, courgettes, spring onions, bananas, tomatoes.

all keeps fine for the expected time as long as you get it straight out of the plastic. That's the but with Aldi - no loose veg.

I expect a week from the onions, a day from the spring onions and somewhere in between from the rest.

Yes, all the time. I only nip in for bit now. I bought some lemons last week.....now usually lemons last weeks. I don't know how it happened but the went rotten the next day.

I stopped buying fruit and veg at Alid when I found it went off quickly too. Am always bemused by the threads where people are raving about the quality as I've always found it to be rubbish.

Not really had a problem tbh. The odd thing here or there but I've had that from tesco and sainsbury too.

I did a month of shopping at aldi and have never gone back... I found the fruit and veg was just awful and went off so quickly that I ended up doing half the shopping at tesco anyway and now tesco have reduced it's prices quite a bit on their basics I find it comparable to shop there and I enjoy what I'm eating more. If I was absolutely stoney broke I'd perhaps go back to aldi but I don't think it's as fab as everyone says at all. Disappointed really.

Same problem here. Carrots are like mulch after a day or two - I don't mind cutting gross bits off sometimes but not all the time. I bought corn on the cob there one day, opened it up that night and it was off.
I spoke to an employee of ALDI a couple of weeks ago and even he said there was a problem with the fruit and veg and he wouldn't buy them.
I always buy my meat from there though - good value and good quality.

Broccoli is awful quality. Everything else tends to vary. I take everything out of the plastic immediately, or it WILL liquify in a day or two.

We have three Aldi stores nearby and insane as it sounds, the quality of the fruit and veg seems to be better in a particular store, so I only ever shop from that one store now.

It's fine as long as you're daft enough to pick the stuff at the front, at hand level.

Like any supermarket that's the stuff closest to going out of date.

Take it from the back, up high or preferably the boxes which are hidden one deep.

I move boxes and all sorts to get to the fresh stuff.

Even better is when you can take from the cages/ pallets before they'very unloaded it.

Same goes for meat.

My nan mentioned this the other day ,apparently it doesn't keep as long as other supermarket fruit and veg. I haven't noticed because it all tends to go before it really has the chance to go off.

Oh I've found Aldi meat to be godawful as well.

I buy most of my fruit and veg from my local market. Cheap, super fresh, fab quality and seasonal.

Sainsburys is my back up. I find their produce reliably good.

I tried Ocado a few times but kept getting sent manky onions and garlic so gave up.

I also find morrisons fruit and veg rubbish. Always one slightly manky looking item in the packet/bag.

Sainsburys in my city is excellent for fruit and veg.

Also rubbish dates on everything fresh at waitrose - whilst on the subject.

Thing is we are strapped for cash just now and I've pretty much gone over to aldi for shopping. But I need a plan for fruit and veg. I can't pop into various shops for different things as with a 1 yr old and 3 yr old I find it such an effort.

I was hoping someone had a magic thingy in their fridge to recommend that extended the life of veg.

There's something wrong with the bags or lighting in our nearest Waitrose, it makes every veg item look nearly rotten.

Can't comment on Aldi, but as for Lidl, omg, it's one of the few Mumsnet-like conversations I've had IRL all about how Lidl F+Veg goes off really fast. It's something you take as a given when you buy it for tuppence.
