thanks @Jenasaurus good to see daily numbers out of the thread title now :)

Numbers in hospital in England looks to be very close to peaking in this exit wave - still rising and on a very shallow trajectory now, and the South West certainly looks to have turned the corner.

Thanks for the new thread.

Here's the variant update from yesterday as the link above doesn't work:

Looking at the link from lonelyplanet I’m wondering if everyone will be getting covid every few months. Lots had omicron around December/January and now again with the next variant. Will it be that we’re in a co start cycle of getting covid every few weeks/months indefinitely? And how on earth will that work with wirk and school absences with people ill and those who take weeks to recover will permanently be ill. Please do correct me if this isn’t likely but I’ve had a wave of realisation this evening that this could be constant - living with covid could mean constant disruption and illness indefinitely

I hadn't thought about it until replying to another post this evening, but I've reached the same conclusion.

I don't know if there will be a natural end point at some point. Guess we have to hope that all the people on social media that think it will just become a seasonal strain like other coronaviruses are right.

moimichme · 13/04/2022 13:02

Reastie and Rafa you may well be right, although some scientists believe there's a bit of seasonality too. So, with time, let's hope we might not all be ill during the summer months or year-round.

containsnuts · 13/04/2022 14:47

Grim, isn't it? Plus there's all the other bugs too. So we'll have the flu, colds, noro, etc etc plus a regular dose of covid to look forward to.

I think all we can do is push for improved hygiene and ventillation in public spaces to try and limit the spread off contagious illness in general. Hopefully it'll get us through winter without all of us being ill at once and the country grinding to a hault.

herecomesthsun · 13/04/2022 15:26

yep, I think encouraging measures to stop people getting ill with respiratory disease would be a general boon

boys3 · 13/04/2022 21:03

quick update on health metrics in England. Numbers - deaths aside - showing signs of easing. Whilst this wave peak has been someway below the peaks seen in early 2021 the current numbers are still multiple times higher than at this point last year.
