Not IMO.

No - not really a proper name and sounds too much like 'pee' and will invite far too much ridicule when she's at school.

As in Pia Zadora? I don't like, as Nancy said, Pia would be endlessly teased at school for being a pee-er.

I went to school with one too, unfortunately it was a welsh sea side town- so we also had a pier of the other type too .

Not really my cuppa. I think -ia names are on the way out - they'll date. Lots of Tias Mias Sophias etc around at the mo.

I like Pia.

If it's not a "proper" name what is it short for?

Report
EyeballsintheSky · 20/03/2009 19:23

Sweet actually. Didn't think I'd like it but after saying it a few times in my head I rather like it.

Oh really SEA? I wonder how the OP plans to pronounce it? It seems most on here have taken it as pee-ya.

Tinker · 20/03/2009 19:31

Nice if you're Swedish.

woollyjo · 20/03/2009 19:32

I like it, its Italian originally but quite common in Germany too. Means pious or honorable.

Report
KHS · 20/03/2009 20:32

Perfectly acceptable - like Mia.

Report
worley · 20/03/2009 20:38

sorry but no, my first thought was the pia pia piano piano piano song

Report
cthea · 20/03/2009 20:40

Pia is very sweet but seems like a missed opportunity for a "proper" name. Maybe short for Patricia? (First that came to mind, is this an awful choice? I like it.)

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/03/2009 20:41

Sounds awful to me - sorry!
